Just printed out my ticket: I’ve received several perks on such things through the years, but never entitlement to “RIDE THE BULL!. . .Free Admission to Billy Bob’s Bull Riding held at 9 p.m. & 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday nights.” Hell, no reason a 3-time Grammy-winner should alter that weekend pattern. . .
Parker, West Words, are we there?
stogerParticipantCharleston on a Sunday night with my Monday being off work: eminently doable! As for the next two days you mention Tom, if you add Tuesday that gives Lu five days in a row, right? Superwoman there. But perhaps Monday will end up being Savannah. Do I even want to mention that a certain promoter-poster might jump in here with info? No, let’s let Tom hash it out and tell us.
stogerParticipantMore thoughts: I think Ft. Lauderdale is a recent addition. It violates the tacit pattern of Lu not playing four nights in a row, making Chattanooga the capper there, but perhaps one of those Florida gigs is a shorter set/festival. It does guarantee Tuesday the 18th (original Oxford date) to be an off-day–and gets the possibility of a Sunday night show back in the mix (maybe a Monday one too). Tom, anything between Asheville/Black Mountain and St. pete? Thanks.

Stoger, if the tour ends at the El Rey will you come here instead of San Fran? I know a good place to eat near the theater. Tim is going to come out.
Instead? Instead? Can’t a man on Thanksgiving Week holiday manage both? We’ll see. Thanks.
stogerParticipantToporunner, I should let TO answer this, but I can speak to it a bit as a native son of the South myself (and I too am disappointed and will probably see two fewer shows that weekend than I had hoped). the short answer might be–the impossibility of getting from Oxford, MS to St. Petersburg, FL for back to back shows without violating the rules of bus driver rest. (I realize this doesn’t address the Alabama issue yet) Sure they could make it overnight, but I doubt it could be done in the time frame the unions understandably demand for driver rest. So Alabama X 2 got dropped with MIssissippi X 1, the baby out with the bathwater as it were. I’ve seen Lu in Birmingham twice and was 50-50 on going to Mobile too. True, those 3 days AL/MS dates were teasers, but I never thought about the logistics until they were pulled. St. Petersburg apparently was a firm book all along. NOw I’m wondering if there will be Monday, Tuesday, Wed. (St. pete) shows back to back, with Sunday an off night. Hope not, as Sunday is still a good night for me provided the show is south central and not too southeast. But enough of that. I’m sure the ‘ham will get its day again (and was that venue by the way, ALYS Hall or something? It never sounded up to Alabama Theatre snuff.) But yeah, this is a tough loss.
stogerParticipantLafayette, what a sewer of a mind you have there 😀 Wow, all that plus “famed” Paul in the audience: Sweet. I’ve heard good things about Doug’s girlfriend Liz (good genetics there I think) and of course it was a nice surprise to hear he played with Doe and hit those licks. I envy you guys that evening, as much as or more than I envy the [of course) wind.

Athens & Chattanooga info coming soon- presales probably now early next week.
The Mobile, Birmingham and Oxford show are probably now not happening as we had to re-route part of that week after the AMA’s in Nashville. It’s still up in the air but it’s looking like the 15th will now be the Pisgah Brewing Festival near Asheville NC. We’re trying to work out the 9/16-18, with Savannah and Charleston SC in the picture -but nothing is completely locked in until 9/19 in St. Pete. It’s all about getting from here to there and finding the right places in between. The drivers gotta sleep too.
Thanks, Tom: though some parts of the South are less equal than other parts (to paraphrase/bastardize Orwell), we appreciate your scheduling efforts. Keep us posted, kind sir.

Is the Oct 18 Oxford show at the Lyric still only tentative? If it doesn’t work out, would a venue in Jackson be a viable alternative?
Thanks
Whoo hoo, lbowie: digging your suggestion. May I point out that Jackson, TENNESSEE is significantly closer to Oxford than Jackson, MS is? Just a thought.

I’m expecting that they will happen. Just been finishing up the first half of the leg as we had a couple of late changes, which i will have more info about soon.
Tom, hope those “late changes” don’t mean the two Alabama shows up around the Americana conference got nixed–they aren’t on this Forum list. Please tell me there’s life between St. Louis/Nashville and St. Pete.
stogerParticipantSaw him at the Cactus Cafe ’bout four years back, lafayette–with Gurf Morlix opening. Thanks for this posting.

Awesome. I will see if they have it on tap. The guitarist accompanying Mr. Doe is someone well known to this forum. 😉
Well, just as a point of clarification, “Twin Brother” is the name of a John Doe song off of the record he was promoting when he opened for Lu, not a brand of draft (in case we got our wires crossed here, tony, not sure if you were joking). Drink a brand of your choice, THEN shout out the title to him.
stogerParticipantI’m a TN Forum peep, Tony, with midweek job obligations, but thanks for the heads-up. I’ve seen JD in St. Louis at Off Broadway, also multiple times opening for Lu few summers back. Should your beverage intake lead toward shouted requests, you could do a lot worse than “Twin Brother,” a lovely slow show-stopper.
stogerParticipantWow, I finally caught up with the Rolling Stone video of “Copenhagen” and can’t quite muster as much enthusiasm for it as certain posters (and friends) have expressed in this stream. The “circling the moon” ending works pretty well, but much baffles. Whatever the slight mystery around the death of Frank Callari, I’m pretty sure an upended vehicle and cruiser lights were not components of his final time on earth. Some of the weather segue from fall/October to winter snow is pretty hilarious, though. And you gotta like those flesh tones on that female figure; did the “robot” grab her butt with a grappling hook type thing at one point? Good heavens. But yes, it’s two different media. As long as it doesn’t play on any overhead wide screens while Lucinda’s singing it in venues which might have such screens, we’ll give it a C+.
And yes, Tom, I’ve heard a version of the “famous director” and the failed “Right in Time” video story. Has the statute of limitations elapsed sufficiently so that that person can be named in 2011?

From Billy Bob’s website:
Live bull riding (not a mechanical bull) at both 9 PM and 10 PM, in the adjacent arena, just before the concert. You must be a credentialed rodeo athlete to compete.
Also, a house band, named “Niles City”, performing on the Honky Tonk stage, near the Main Stage.
Paul. You must be kidding. I mean, I was just joking about the “Billy Bob Early Show.” Thanks for the heads-up though, and I’ll definitely renew my lariat and lasso credentials before they expire in September, the better to show up early and throw my hat in the ring. Quite a relief that we don’t have an artificial Mickey Gilley-Deborah Winger-Urban Cowboy situation here, everything live and animate at Billy Bob’s.
Parker, dust off those spurs and spare saddles. I’m coming at ya.

The only LA area show will be the Henley opening slot, which will of course be a shorter opener set. The tour will finish this year in SF 11/19 & 20.
