Vinyl Fan, how did the Minn. in-store go? Lefty, I got to see ZM again in Louisville, headlining, and it was sublime. Those Lost High Rollers (T Van Zandt allusion there) are mighty fine. Moderator, you better get on amazon.com in short order.
stogerParticipantYeah, first a guy at an Open Mic in Jackson mentions the glories of spotify to me–then casually adds the necessity of the Facebook connection (“But you don’t have to add any Friends”–as if that would convince me). Then the Braves blow it. Rough evening. Mr. Moderator, I stand with you on these issues and lamentations.

Order processing fee 3.25
Grand Total $40.75Landed my Buffalo ticket, LWj. See you there.
I brought my pencil…give me something to write on, man! (Van Halen, “Hot for Teacher”)
Lefty, in light of your Van Halen song selection here, you might want to check out the Terry Anderson song “I Love You Period” which Dan Baird put on his 1992 record Love Songs for the Hearing Impaired.

Pieta and Bo were brilliant last night at McCabes. After her set, Pieta signed albums and posters in the front room. WHILE BO WENT INTO HIDING?
For folks in the Los Angeles area this week, remember EmmyLou Harris, Buddy Miller, and Patty Griffin on Tuesday night at the Greek Theater, and Gillian Welch with David Rawlings on Thursday night at the Music Box.

Wow. Nothing in the Northeast. Not even the Calvin Theatre in Northampton, MA. Bummer.
Uh, I don’t think it’s anything specific to the Calvin, but probably no one should hold breath waiting on Northampton to pop up in any Lu list of past faves or future performing venues. It’s probably done (though I’ve seen her there at Calvin and also outdoors in that town myself).

I’ve been to three of her favorite venues.
My money is on stoger for all ten.
Well, ten yes, Lafayette–but I counted 13 total here. No Hotel Cafe, no Showbox Seattle, no Santa Cruz. My money’s on Paul for an even dozen.

Zoe’s first album is excellent as well. I’m partial to “The Last Bus”, Middle of Nowhere”, and “Wasting My Time”. She’s set to play an in store show at the Electric Fetus on October 3. I don’t believe she’s played in MN as of yet and I’m looking forward to the show. I’ll let you know how it goes.
Yes, the first, self-released record has some gems on it. Hard to beat “If I Can’t Trust You with a Quarter. . .” from the newbie though. I hear she’s been drawing mediocre crowds (quantity-wise, anyway) in North Carolina, so perhaps a return to the Great Midwest will boost her following and her spirits. Maybe she’ll sneak in a show at a Minn. club too? 7th St. Eatery? That other one whose name I’ve forgotten, also with a street address in its title? That one has Olson-Louris and Replacements pictures on its wall, I recall. Saw Raul Malo there once.

OK, let’s put the ball point pens to rest for the Town Ballroom in Buffalo 11/6/11.
I phoned the venue and talked with the Manager.
He said no problem about bringing a pen for an adult show like Lucinda’s.
He said they had trouble a while back with kids writing on the wall.
Point and shoot cameras are OK.
My mini recorder, he said to call back closer to show time to see if OK.
I also asked him about parking since the venue is on Main Street which is only for pedestrians and bus traffic.
Anyone going to the show park on Washington Street.FINALLY, I got my ticket today thru Tickets.com for will call.
Very abusive fees.
Ticket $30.00

Grand Total $40.75lwj
Great stuff, lwj. But what about venues like Webster nYC and Beaumont Club KC which start the “adult show” at 7 or 8 so as to have a teeny-bopper act later in the evening? Perhaps a two-tier ink pen policy prevails in such houses. At any rate, I feel sure an international phone call from you would settle any such ambiguities in the future.
stogerParticipantWire-frame glasses and curls in abundance: Pretty much, lwj.
stogerParticipantI’ve been to the Twin Cities multiple times, Mr. Moderator, and if there are a baker’s dozen of things superior to these two, I’ve yet to find them.
stogerParticipantI’m going low-tech guys: I’m sneaking in one of those stubby pencils used at putt-putt courses to record scores.
stogerParticipantYes, lwj, he did at least once (Raleigh) this summer. I think we can expect Over the Rhine, local, Blake Mills, local, Buick 6, Blake Mills, local. . . as kind of a pattern, based on this year. And it’s not a bad pattern. All this and January duo shows too: whoo hoo!!
stogerParticipantDon’t jest overmuch, Moderator: Paul actually uses a similar system to chart Lucinda’s choices from night to night, if I’m not mistaken.
stogerParticipantI’m still waiting on West Words to sneak a pen in old-school and test the confiscatory skills of the powers-that-be. Do these guys moonlight as security at Bills’ games?

UB is a wonderful venue, but way to sterile of an environment for my taste.
THANK YOU!!! Tom and Lu for coming to the Town Ballroom.A little review on the Town Ballroom.
QUOTE”ยท PENS NOT ALLOWED!!! What? How will West Words prepare the set list for posting?
That’s right, if you’re coming to watch a band at the Town Ballroom, leave your ballpoint pen at home. The bouncer will snatch it right out of your hand with nary an explanation. Don’t worry, though, your prescription and non-prescription drugs will go unnoticed.
That aside, I loved this venue. It’s exactly what I wished a venue in Las Vegas was like. The place is pretty big… holds about 1000 people, but there’s no bad spot in the house. Wherever you are, there’s no bad place to watch the band. I was hoping for seats since I’m an old man, but hey, I’ll take a great view of the band over being comfortable when Minus The Bear is the one taking the stage.
Bonus points for me going to the bar and ordering a water, expecting to pay $2 or $3 and having the bartender hand me a glass of water for free. And he didn’t seem put out that I wasn’t buying a drink, either.
I’ll probably never see a show here again, unfortunately, but I wish I could.
End Quote”Now the BIG question since it’s a standing only venue and no pens allowed.
How am I gonna create a set list ? I don’t have the memory of stoger where he can rattle off the songs instantly.
Maybe stoger (aka The Road Warrior) will attend Buffalo and the problem will be solved. ๐lwj
