Dang sean, wish I knew you were going to be there. Setlist is solid of course, and you are right on point 2; we can add that to the anticipatory new album list. I forgot if Lu co-wrote “Room 13” with Jesse, for she sings on a couple from Sunset Kids different from the ones she co-wrote. At any rate, great night, augmented by Aaron Lee Tasjan doing a Malin song, and a fine opening set from the Fantastic Cats. I met these four pussies (but not folk pussies) afterwards, springing for their album. A NYC supergroup I believe, four guys who front four different local bands.

Oh, I believe a publicity “rush” will be worked in before the summer season.

Well, Price & Kennedy are both good sources. This is more than shaping up nicely: whoo hoo!!

I believe Tom told me June 30, sean–thus coinciding with Day One of Fitzgerald’s American Music Fest near Chicago, Lu’s set.

Amazingly, I heard “Port Arthur” live in Cleveland at the tribute to Janis J quite a few years ago. She was working on it up until show time, according to all accounts. “Lafayette” was in attendance. Anyway, I have a hazy memory of Tom saying they recorded it at some point, but don’t hold me to that. Is it “finished?” Who knows?

You can find a version of “We’ve Come Too Far…” on the record Lu made with Charles Lloyd, but I agree we need it on an upcoming album.

Are we sure the song about Prine called “What Could Go Wrong” will be on the new record? Probably, but it might have been worked up only live.

2023 will be glorious for us Lu-heads, yes.

Meaty report stuff for a vegetarian, backstreets/mike. Of course I should have remembered the Rock and Roll Shoes thing was an old cover, picked by Tom and played a time or two in the recent past. Wishful thinking on my part that it was a newbie. Somehow “when the way gets dark” seems a familiar Lu lyric, but I can’t place it and could be wrong–would love to learn it is in fact a NEW song.

Yes, the song about Lucinda trying to co-write with Prine was played at the Ryman tribute; though I wasn’t there, I know for a fact that tour manager Travis Stephens sat in on guitar! Would love to think he “pull”[ed] his weight at this event and was on stage also. But re-reading before sending, it seems only Stu was there.

Lots of interstates between southern FL and Iowa, so let Mrs. Backstreets do the drivin’ when you get weary. Thanks for the reports.

Good to see “Ventura” in there. Is the first song a cover or a new Lu song? And I texted you about my whereabouts, backstreets, so when you get reception again that will await you.

Whew–for the opening photo moment there, I saw only one guitarist and panicked: never fear, our Californian/North Carolinian on pedal steel cropped up (was almost cropped out) in the next pic. Hats off to the Lu headgear. . .

Nice job, back streets–no pressure of course. And yes, I imagine the weather tops Iowa climes this month, for sure.

Let’s hope the Stardust is safely indoors, so the props and equipment won’t tumble through the breeze.

“backroads,” are you safely onsite with good INternet access?

Might we add April 20, 21, and 22 to the spring list: New York City, including the date Lu’s memoir is released. Also, courtesy High Road & vmorris, May 4 is looking good for Birmingham USA.

Let us rally ’round the rail two nights running, vm. Hallowed ground, indeed. Those Southern distances are less daunting than say, Western ones, so be strong!

O man, I foresee a cyberbattle between tonyg and vmorris over the Carlisle issue. I withdraw from that fray.

For my money (minimum X 2 + fees, for those who would know), Sara Watkins was the highlight–rescuing “Price to Pay” from its relative obscurity; providing great instrumentals and back-up vocals on “Right in Time”; ably introducing the house band (God bless Val McCallum; God bless Greg Leisz); coming back on stage at end like most of her peers save Yoakum & Potter.

Did Dwight really call Her “Linda” at one point, or was that a technoglitch? Maybe I missed a syllable. Plus we learned from him that Don Imus has never listened to Tom Petty’s cover of “Changed the Locks.”

Most all the “fierce women” and “handful of guys” were superb. Thanks.

As long as I’m bashing Grace Potter here, did we really enjoy that fashionchat she provided? And what about ordering the boys not to play on the first segment of “I Lost It?” Good they came in when they did, for it helped cover up a flubbed lyric between her and Spencer. I’ll put off until tomorrow the show’s last half and a possible third (?!) Nocturnal appearance.

Did that grammy nominee Eva O’Whatever really imply that Live at the Fillmore is the best Lucinda album? Does anyone really listen to that one, proportionate to the others? Hmh.

“A few numbers” by the honoree? I just tuned in un-live, and though it was a guilty pleasure to see Jed Hilly so nervous and shaking, his bombshell words floored me (after Grace Potter’s invented lyrics to “Real Love” semi-floored me). Tony, what’s up?
