Awesome, another Lucinda Concert DVD to buy, I already have the CD from that concert, and love how she sings “Like a Rose” twice all the way through. That will be fun to see on the screen. I hope the DVD includes the second set of songs that aren’t on the live CD. That would probably get more people to buy it.
stevarinoParticipantOK Inside Job,
Its probably in here somewhere but since you titled this thread “10/23 LITTLE HONEY LIVE WEBCAST” can you tell us what time the show is and post the hyperlink to launch the Webcast here? I just looked on the Home, Media and Shows Tabs and don’t see anything there. Hopefully she will play “Minneapolis” in Minneapolis.
Thanks,
Steve
stevarinoParticipantNo doubt. I can’t believe his responsiveness, and the amount of writing IJ gives this forum. Seems like he must spend hours a day reading everything and typing up multi paragraph responses. Its great. I loved his story about watching a movie with the outdoor speakers blasting. Thanks for the good work and dedication to the fans Tom!
stevarinoParticipantWhatever works man! I remember starting my first job out of college, and everyone carried a binder around with all their important information. We used to refer to our binders as our “brains”. As in, “hey you left your brain over there”. Were we less than professional? No. Did we get the job done, yes. Did we worry about it? Absolutely not. Whatever it takes to get the job done.
Did I notice Lucinda using her cheat sheet? Only when she specifically refered to it at the begining of the show. Why do why talk about this useless stuff?
stevarinoParticipantUnderstood, understood understood. I’ve got 8 framed album covers on my entertainment room walls, but they are all around 30 years old or more. So yeah, a signed one of Lucinda’s Self Titled Album would look great up there. I hope she gets rights to that album back soon. Dang, I should have stuck around after the Columbus show to have her sign that T-shirt.
I converted my vinyl to digital to load onto my ipod which I use primarily when I travel so I don’t have to throw a peach crate into my carry on. I still put the vinyl on my turntable to listen at home. Recently had to buy a new Discwasher brush and D4 solution refill. Probably need to replace my 20-some year old needle cartridge too.
stevarinoParticipantDisco Stu – Yeah I was totally enjoying it when she started IJWTSYSB. And like I said I think Well Well Well was a first, or at least uncommon song from her new album which I think along with “The Knowing” are my two favorites. Not to dismiss Real Love or Honeybee whichshe has been playing a while and I’ve heard before, but it was good to find yet more great material on her new album.
Lafayette – You must have been just a few feet away from me. I’m guessing it was the two young girls dancing intimately with one another in a lesbianesque way just to my left and someone near them eventually didn’t appreciate it. Was it a chick fight? I must have been getting a beer because they were just to my left most of the night. Sorry to hear about your bumping and grinding experience. I kind of enjoyed being able to walk almost right to the stage anytime I wanted. For much of the concert I was probably just 10 feet away from the band. You were even closer. Glad to hear you enjoyed the show anyway, I know I did.
stevarinoParticipantOK a question for the posters in this thread. Why vinyl? I still have my Technics direct drive and lots of vinyl albums which I listen to often, but I’ve been converting then digitaly at high sample rates to MP3 files. Tell me why you prefer the vinyl version or the album? Do you think its a richer sound, or do you like the larger artwork, or are you just hanging on to an earlier tradition, ?
stevarinoParticipantYes I was thrilled when she started “I Just Wanted to See You So Bad” (IJWTSYSB) the opener for my first and all time favote Lucinda Williams Album. I picked up the T with that album’s artwork on the front. I swear it felt like she was playing all my favorite songs, customizing her show just for me. And rrnora, she did play Honeybee, reading down your list you did a pretty good job, but it seems a few songs short of her 2 hour performance, but your memory is obviously better than mine.
stevarinoParticipantHey Lafayette. I was looking for you at the show last night since I thought you might be there, but never found you. I was down front standing second behind the rail huggers a little to the right of where Lucinda was standing for much of the show, although I kept going back to join my three first time Lucinda concert friends that I brought with me. They stayed on the lower floor about 20 feet from the stage. But they totally enjoyed the show, one of whom didn’t know a single Lucinda Williams song until last night.
I agree with your statement that “The show did NOT have a lull in it whatsoever from beginning to end” including the Buick Six Warm-up. The two women we brought were outside smoking, but when they heard Doug and Chet begin Led Zeplin’s “Black Dog” they came inside to see what was smoking on the stage. They were also thrilled to finally hear Buick Six do their only vocal performance with Neil Young’s “Cinnamon Girl”. That was awesome. I just got her new album the night before, and “Well Well Well” was instantly one of my favorites, so it was great that she played that one last night since I’ve never seen it on any of her previous set lists. She must have known I liked it. It was great to finally see her finish up with the A/C D/C cover which she omitted at JCMs show this summer in Cincinnati.
It WAS a great show and Lucinda likes the General Admission format with everyone up front so close to her. They only had a dozen small tables with a few chairs each against the upper floor railing, everything else was standing/dancing room only, and no chairs at all on the “pit” floor. There were no restarts, tantrums, lighting issues, or fights, although she did refer to her lyrics cheat sheets once, but I didn’t notice it other than that. I occasionally looked backward at the audience, and found it unusual how everyone was smiling so big, like they were having more fun than they were allowed. Hopefully someone can submit a set list, but it started out with the usual, Real Love and Tears of Joy, and included all the new album songs she’s been playing but she mixed in quite a few older songs that weren’t on her recent set lists. I love Stills’ and Young’s early work in The Buffalo Springfield, so it was awesome when they started “There’s something happening here, what it is ain’t exacly clear…”. I can’t wait for the live album.
stevarinoParticipantThanks for all the postings of the reviews, but I dismissed the first few I read as I listened to the whole album tonight. A few times. I think this is a really good album, probably the best since CWOAGR.
stevarinoParticipantGravel Roads. I totally agree, been listening to it for two hours now. I guess my addiction is showing. I’ll repost my writeup from page 10 of the Little Honey tab becuase I think this page is going to get hit a lot this week:
I just ran out to pick up Honeybee from the mall. I’m listening to “Knowing” as I’m typing. What a great song, its so beautifully produced, her voice sounds so good, and the instruments sound so professionally played. I’ve heard many of the songs off the album this summer during the JCM tour, but the newly released songs are awesome. Well Well Well has such great guitar work by Chet and Doug, its a classic already. I thought it was a cover of an old blues hit, but looking at the CD it seems to be a new song. And for those whining about missing her old stuff, the knowing song sounds like something that could have been off the self titled album, the first I ever owned. Heaven Blues sounds like an extension of Get Right With God off her Essence album. And though I never heard the whole song until tonight, of course Rarity will become a classic Lucinda Williams song. Finally, I’m listening to Plan to Marry and I can tell its an important song. I need to listen to it a few more times to understand what she is saying. It seems like a protest song.
I’ll be seeing her with some old friends up in Columbus tomorrow night. I hope no water pipes burst or anything like that.
Tom Overby – This is an awesome production. I have to listen to each song closely, and each time I do I pick up another instrument, horns, bells, gongs, background vocals. Is there any way I can meet Lucinda? Before or after show events? Do I need to buy passes? Let me know how to do that if its an option. Am I too late for Columbus?stevarino

stevarinoParticipantMy 47 year old factory noise damaged ears sometimes don’t like how loud the music is so I always bring those little yellow foam things to cram into my ears. Then its never too loud. Can’t wait to see next Wednesdays show in Columbus. I’m excited about seeing Buick Six for the first time. I Hope they play Niel Youngs Cinnamon Girl.
stevarinoParticipantI bought the LA performance of the self titled album first, but ended up getting the rest of the 5 album set from the New York shows. There are a lot of “breakdowns” in the NYC performances. But anymore the breakdowns are just part of the show. As I’ve written in here ten times her total repeat of Like a Rose at the El Ray in Los Angelos is the highlight of the series for me. I don’t think you can go too wrong with either set. The New York shows all sound great, and I trust the folks in here that the rest of the LA shows are even better, I’ll have to get them.
stevarinoParticipantHey Sears girl,
I’ll be having a little party at the Hyatt just a few blocks from the show in Columbus. Send me a note and I’ll let you know where it is if you want to join me and some of my friends prior to the show and/or after.
