You have to promise to email Lucinda 99 cents
stevarinoParticipantJust for fun, I put the albums in the order I thought I liked them, and then pulled up iTunes to see how often I listened to each album, at least on my ipod. I’m surprised at how much I’ve been listening to Little Honey, and its only been out a few weeks. I’m surprised no one listed it here as a recomendation. I really like this new album and think it will becone one of my all time favorites. Looks like I better pull out West again, I must have liked it when it came out more than I remember now.
Lucinda Williams (55)
Sweet Old World (19)
Little Honey (21)
Car Wheels On A Gravel Road (13)
Essence (15)
World Without Tears (9)
West (24)
Happy Woman Blues (10)
RamblinstevarinoParticipantAfter hearing all the accolades, I downloaded the Masters of War song from Amazon and see it is at 256 kbps, which is CDA quality. Thanks Amazon, looks like Apple will be loosing out with at least one customer that cares about the quality of music they listen to.
Steve
stevarinoParticipantThanks Tim,
A great interview. I’m going to get some Mia Doi Todd music. She talks a lot about how much she likes to record with Elvis Costello. Who in my opinion, different than everyone elses in this chat group, sounds great singing with Lucinda.
Steve
stevarinoParticipantFoolishly I set up an iTunes account and downloaded “For What Its Worth” only to be reminded that iTunes only offers a sub standard 128 kbps sample rate, which is about half of what you really need to get CDA quality sound. And I’m sure I I have very limited abilities on what I can do with it compared to the CDs I own. I like how Apple allows you to buy each song individually for 99 cents, and charges 3.99 for you to buy the whole album, nice volume discount. Those artsy fartsy types must be math impaired at iTunes.
I do like the music though, sounds great. I loved it live in Columbus. Isn’t that a Stones album?
Steve
stevarinoParticipantCool, That’s always my first recommendation to first time listeners, but since its out of print…… Second recommendation is Car Wheels. I’ve obviously got the Kock version, and didn’t realize it was originally on the Rough Trade Label. Thanks for the explanation. I still think she skipped over some really good material on this album.
stevarinoParticipantI originally ordered this on Amazon, but had to take my daughter to pick up an iPod Nano case and couldn’t resist picking it up at the music store. I find myself listening to this album over and over again. This is a Classic Pretender’s sound, she sounds the same as when I first “discovered” her about 20 years ago.
Paved down the middle, by a government that has no pride, Eye oh way to go Ohio (She is from Cleveland)
Now she wants to break up the concrete, I guess that Ohio poured.
Steve
stevarinoParticipantTom,
I know she played “I Just Wanted To See You So Bad” & “Crescent City”, but she did not credit them to the S/T album during the webcast. She credited them to a B/T or some other album or studio I didn’t recognize.
Tom, the fact that this awesome album is out of print means we are missing something.
Steve
stevarinoParticipantDisco Stu.
What a great writeup of the Concert in Madison. Sounds like an awesome show customized just for you, and your date. I’m glad to hear you turned around a bit in your opinion of the tour and the latest album. Thanks for adding the notes on Buick Six, we really enjoyed those last two songs as well. White Kitty? Hmmmm…… Next the need to do Cowgirl in the Sand.
Steve
stevarinoParticipantHey Tom,
Sorry to misinterpret your mood. Sometimes its hard to know the writer’s emotion from the written word, at least for me. At the end you said you were getting off your soapbox, that’s probably why I interpreted some level of emotional content to what you had written.
As for the drunkenness, I guess it was the comparison of a chicken chef to an artist. I figured you had to be on something to come up with the soon to be famous tnttracy chicken analogy. 😆
As far as artists that refuse to follow the 33% new, 33% old, 33% classic formula, my favorite artist today, and since the seventies, is Neil Young. The last time I saw him was during his Greendale tour. He played 100% off this album – period. Complete with an extended cast of characters, and set for the Greendale community. We learned all about Sun Green, Earth Brown, and the murder of officer Carmicheal. It was kind of different, but he put on a good show. Twenty five and some odd years ago he put out an album called Trans. You remember the classic song “Transformer Man”. I saw that concert in Chapel Hill at the Dean coliseum. The first half was all electric/electronic music from his newest album. After an intermission he came out alone with just an acoustic guitar and harmonica, and played another hour of his older, and at the time more recent folk songs. It was an awesome show. I wish he was coming near Cincinnati on his current tour, but maybe I’ll have to take a trip….
Steve
stevarinoParticipantTom,
Peace Love and Understanding, ok? Are you OK? You seem Angry. I’m surmising you are really drunk tonight so I’m just going to let this odd nonsense pass. Yell at me if I’ve mis-interepreted what you are saying. I love the old stuff. I love the new stuff.
Stop Children what’s that sound everone looks what going down.
Steve
stevarinoParticipantTrane,
The first of the NY/LA live shows I bought was the LA version of Lucinda Williams which is just great. The rest of the group I bought the NY version, being an east coaster. They are all really good. I’ve heard the general sentiment that the LA versions are better, but honestly the NY sets are very good. I don’t think you can go very wrong with either selection.
Welcome to the club,
Steve
stevarinoParticipanttntracey, or Tom,
I didn’t notice it at during the show. But just seeing and hearing what she is enjoying during her performances, of course she likes when the fans are up on their feet, dancing and singing and rocking.
On a totaly different note, my kids have the WII game Rock Hero. They asked me if I had one of the songs on the game they like called “The Seeker”. I looked through my Peaches Records and Tapes peach crate to find The Who’s “Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy”. Took it out of the liner and placed it on the turntable. You should have seen my kids eyes, looking at the needle cartridge, watching me clean the disk. Moving the needle by hand to the last track on side one. and dropping the needle at the begining of the track. Ha, ha they think I’m from the dark ages when I turn on the Technics. But they like the song. I made them listen to Can’t Explain, and My Generation. They cracked up ay how much dad enjoyed listening to these old tunes. I think they liked them too though. Hopefully they will appreciate the classics.
Steve
stevarinoParticipantLucinda, Tom,
Thank you so much for letting your fans listen to one of your best concerts at home totally free. We are indebted to your generousity toward your fans.
I dragged a few old high school buddies to your Concert in Columbus, and before and during the show we drank way more than we should have. My memory of the show was that the band’s playing was just increadible, your voice was right on. The intensity of both the crowd and the band was over the top. I was a little worried that maybe the alchohol and seeing great old friends had distored my perception of the concert. After listening to last nights webcast, I know my feeling about how well you and your band are performing right now, and being number nine on the charts, is all just a reflection of the quality performance you and Buick Six give to your fans.
You are off the board,
Thanks,
Steve
stevarinoParticipantDisco Stu,
Glad to hear you enjoyed the show. I totaly did, except maybe for the repeated breakdowns on Jail House Tears. Not sure what was going on there. Maybe it would have gone off better if Elvis Costello had been there to sing the male part.
