    Lefty,

That’s one of my favorites off the new album. Did she play it for you last night? She played it at the show I went to in Columbus last fall. Made the night…. along with many other great tunes.

Bus to Baton Rouge on the setlist – awesome!! She doesn’t play that one often.

Her lyrics about the honey suckles that were used for switches when we were bad, the front room all being closed off, the company couch covered in plastic, the lamp with the seashore on the shade that turned around and gently rock the waves. When she sings this, I can clearly see the driveway covered in tiny white seashells.

Hopefully she makes it to this part of the country this summer after her down under tour.

    Thanks for the posting visions,

David R. Stampone, who authored that review of the show at the Keswick sounds like a true fan.

I thought that May of ’09 was when Tom Overby said the re-release of the Rough Trade Album would happen. Not sure if this is what is being referred to.

Not sure I’m worried about the color of the ladies hair. She does look good in a straw cowboy hat though.

    Lafayette,

Its good to see the Cincinnati fans were represented in Atlanta. Its been so awesome seeing you become such a Lucinda Williams fan from seeing her warm up for JMC during last summers tour. I’m jealous you got to go and I didn’t. But I’m glad to hear how much you enjoyed yourself and got to meet everyone and made it home safely.

Lucinda’s hair is dark in the 1998 Austin City Limits DVD and she looks great. Her hair is Blonde in the 1989 Austin City Limits DVD and she looks great. I’ve seen here live both ways many times. Cheryl Crowes hair was dark in her 1999 Rocking the Globe Live DVD, and blonde in the 2003 C’mon America DVD and tour. She certainly is beautiful in both colors, and I’ve seen her perform live both ways. My wifes hair is dark, it would be inteesting to see her come home one day as a blonde. Oh wait is that too much information? ha ha.

The point being that hair color is probably not going to affect the ladies beauty, or certainly her ability to sing and play music.

I see that Ray Lamontagne is playing at the Taft Theater in Cincinnati on Saturday April 18. Surprisingly (to me at least) all the good seats are gone. I may just have to get a single ticket and check out Dougs new band. I’ve listened to Ray’s music a few times but don’t really like it that much, but I love watching and listening to Doug play.

In my experience FU is usually an abreviation for follow up. I was a bit surprised in one of my first professional jobs when my boss wrote “Steve – fu” next to some meeting minutes he put in my “in basket”.

From my perspective David’s BS meter is really just an indicator that someone has a different opinion than him. If they don’t see things as he does then its BS. I totally disagree that Lucinda’s music does not sound like Lucinda Williams older music any more. My first album and still favorite is the self titled or Rough Trade album. I have it in vinyl and CD. I still think she is putting out high quality old Lucinda Williams-like music. Those Three Days, and Minneapolis off the WWOT album are classic old style sounds. Steal Your Love, and Bus to Baton Rouge from Essence paint such vivid pictures of southern life. Are You All Right and Rescue off West always send a chill up my spine from the concert I first heard them played live. And I’ve probably listed too many times my favorite classic sounds on Little Honey. But I also like her songs trending more towards the rocking sounds of late. This is my opinion, I suspect DIM will think my opinion is fantasy and will probably set off his BS meter. It is fine with me if in his mind my reality is a fantasy, but that’s really just an opinion.

I didn’t learn about not being “reactive” from my parents. I learned to Act, not Re-Act, at corporate training at one of the most highly regarded companies in the world, not from watching Dr, Phil. I was surprised that most of the people in the class already knew this behavior, but it was new to me at the time early in my career. I drift back into it occasionally.

Steverino is the correct way to spell Steve Allen’s Nickname from the “Tonight’s Show”. That was the nickname my dad gave me when I was in grade school, but I’ve always spelled it incorrectly as Stevarino. What did I know, I was only 6 when I started using it. Either is fine with me.

Since the request was for an instrumental, I think a cover of:

The Allman Brother’s “Jessica” would be awesome to hear.

If they want to sing, since they did such a good job in Cinnamon Girl, why not try:

Neil Young’s “Cowgirl in the Sand”

    David,

You are better, as we are all when we ACT. Thanks for the Bonaroo band list posting.

Then when we Re – Act. There is a basic thing about life you didn’t learn from your parents about not being reactive. Your reactions to other people tend to define you. You shouldn’t let your reactions to other people define who you are so much.

OK Tom, Lucinda wins in all categories so I’ll exclude her here. I probably won’t be too popular in this forum, but this is what I liked in 2008.

    1) Best Records – Just listing the bands, you should know the albums
    Sheryl Crow
    Jack Johnson
    Pretenders
    Eagles
    2) Best reissue – REM Murmur – Awesome album then, sounds even better now
    3) Musical discovery – Gemma Hayes – The Roads Don’t Love You (2005) – Tom if you want to hear a masterfully produced album listen to this one
    4) Best show – Eagles – I bought great seats for my wife’s birthday it was increadible
    5) Best musical moment – When my high school friends I drug to the concert heard Buick 6 play White Kitty and Cinnamon Girl, and loved the band.
    6) Best movie – Eastwood in Gran Torino – he never died before. I think it’ his last movie. O wait is that 09?
    7) Best book – That I read – Team of Rivals – Doris Kearns Goodwin – Another inexperienced Illinois politician. Oh wait – he founded the Republican Party.
Random thoughts – This financial crisis has fundamentaly “reset” business as we know it in the US and the world
2009 – I want to see Robinella in Knoxville when I’m down that way this summer

    David,

I read that. Thanks for posting it. One of the few songs the reviewer at the top of this thread liked. I appreciate the support. I’ve recieved pages and pages of feedback that Elvis was totally the wrong guy for the duet, and yet my “discerning ears” Love Elvis’ and Lu’s version.

    David,

The regulars in here all know your opinion of Lucinda William’s recent work. We know that. You don’t need to keep repeating it over, and over, and over again, ad nauseum. You are best when you are expanding our knowledge of artists and music you like.

    Peace,

    Steve
