paul knows i paid dearly by missing side of the road……..sigh…….
wish i could have made it down to anaheim. i’m really glad to hear the place was packed on a weeknight, it’s a good sign for sure.

i did have a nice long talk with sara petite. someone here texted her (no names but his initials are STOGER) about me which prompted her to call. so thanks for that stoger.

with lucinda gone, i’m guessing she’s not jay leno’s surprise darn it
(he’s got something planned to surprise his loyal staff on his last show tonight)

just a working class hero……..going to work instead of sleeping in after a lucinda show dang it.

Dave Alvin and the Guilty Women is my other new favorite/these two cds rule in my car right now (it took something special to get Leonard Cohen’s new live in London cd out of the cd player)

someone here pays attention to the printed word? yay!
my husband has worked for The Daily News here in Los Angeles since 1980 but his last day is June 6 as they’re shutting it down……..supposedly……they’re farming the work out to other papers for now.
we anticipate that they may “sell” the paper and then re-open without union pressman and lesser paid/part timers without insurance types……..if they don’t fold.
The Denver Post is owned by the same media group, so who knows how long they have left as well.

looking forward to reading your preview Lafayette!

i’m truly excited to be getting to hear Iris AND the Handsome Family at McCabe’s (will be my first time for each. last time Iris was around, i drove up to santa cruz to hear her and she cancelled last minute due to illness. i was crushed and went on a shopping binge in downtown santa cruz to comfort myself, hahaha)
i missed bo and pieta when they were here opening for JJ Cale recently, but they made a whole lot of new fans from the folks i know that heard em and didn’t know them.

last sat at pappy and harriet’s was my favorite “new” band. a reconfigured combo called the Rockslider’s with Kenny Newberry, Alex Watts and Jim Allen on guitars, Dale Daniel on drums (drummer for the Hacienda Brothers) and Charlie Wallace on pedal steel!
what can i say about Charlie? he could finally break me of my Greg Leisz addiction…….well, there’s room for both of them in my heart. great bassist too (Dave i think/my first meeting and i have to say the name a few times for it to sink in, just like everything in my life it seems! ha)

oh i agree with you Lefty, especially about Donnie Herron. Isn’t he great?
They are not allowed to stray one note! which is really frustrating for any musician.
(tony garnier must be crazy? ha)

hope lucinda is enjoying herself down under
(seeing leonard cohen next week for my first time, i can barely wait!!!)

besides his talent, duane’s one of the sweetest guys…..this truly sucks…..
hope the owner of safari sam’s finally paid up (there was a benefit for duane and others last fall and there was some money that didn’t get where it was supposed to. hopefully it’s been righted by now)

    thanks as always tim

steve earle is playing a benefit monday night at Great American Music Hall, if you’re able to go you should, it ought to be a heartfelt evening.
i don’t know how you get a password to buy a ticket, but i’m guessing you can swing by there and get one…….dave and gillian are there tuesday (they’re at Largo on Monday. Emmylou showed up to play with them last thursday…i missed it unfortunately but read it was incredible…work is always in the way of a good time!)
