I haven’t made a comment on here in quite some time, I usually just browse through and read other members comments, but this one is too important for me to pass up.
Please, please, please make one of the special nights here in Chicago. I’ve only seen Lu once since living here, saw her back in the Fall when she played at the Riviera. It was a wonderful night, and she put on one of the better shows I’ve seen her do.
Chicago would be an excellent place, since it is more centralized and would give fans a chance to come here instead of traveling to the East or West Coast. Not to mention there are many locals who adore Lu, and wouldn’t have to travel at all!
On a side not, I’d like to become more vocal here, as opposed to just reading, and would love to even meet some of the regulars. I always enjoy reading your posts, and I wouldn’t be surprised if I’ve stood by one or two of you at one of her shows before.
Cheers!!
spencecbParticipantGreat, great show. One of the best I’ve seen from her, in fact.
I really feel like Unsuffer Me was the best performance/most chilling moment of the night.
Great sound, great setlist and great vocals. Wouldn’t change a thing from last night.
spencecbParticipantMy ex and I will be there tonight. We both live in Chicago, though. Super excited about the show. This will be my 4th time seeing her, first at the Riviera.
I hope she puts on a nice long setlist and isn’t too worn out from last night! I missed the webcast because of work.
Definitely excited to hear Buick 6 open the set, too.
spencecbParticipantHaha, that’s awesome. I think its perfectly fine when she (and others) react that way. I was at the Summerfest concert this summer when she began to become irritated from the noise of the fireworks and the surrounding stages. She didn’t flip out, just kept telling the sound guys to “turn it up.” Rock through it, baby!
spencecbParticipantActually have a friend at a record store and heard it there.
I know all the reviews have been saying how this album is all sunshine and happiness, which there is a great deal of, but believe me when I say there is still plenty of the darker stuff on this disc. I’d agree that in general the music is much more upbeat, rock and southern, but there are lots of darker moments in the lyrics of a couple of the songs.
spencecbParticipantHey all!! I finally got to hear the new album in glorious full and I am so happy with what I heard!! I’ve heard most of the songs live before like many of you but I am so impressed with how they have been captured in the studio. Music is varied, and the voice, oh the voice!!
My favorites:
Circles and X’s
Well, Well, Well
Heaven Blues
Plan to Marry
Honey BeeSuch a great release and I is captured flawlessly. I love how it feels like you are in the studio watching it be recorded, the way there is talking during tracks and before and after them.
I’m in love with it, and can’t wait to have it in my hands on Tuesday, then to see her a week from Friday here in Chicago!!
spencecbParticipantAs am I 😀
And just to clarify my comment, it is about the voice. I never meant to imply that I don’t respect him, because I do. I’ve just never been a fan. And I had high hopes for this song because I’ve heard it live many times, and it is an amusing and fun song.
And I do have to admit that the studio version has already started to grow on me. I guess this is just further proof of Lu’s great insight 😉
spencecbParticipantOh, Elvis….I’ll give it some time to grow but my first impressions are that he ruined such a great song 😥
spencecbParticipantDo you have a link for cdnow.com? Because when I go there, it redirects to amazon.com, and there are no previews of the tracks. I’ve searched high and low!!!
spencecbParticipantLittle Honey is now featured on Lost Highway’s main page, with two tabs next to it that says “play” and “preorder.” When you click on “play” it says that the tracks are currently unavailable.
Must mean they are getting close to actually letting us preview the album 😀
August 24, 2008 at 7:17 pm in reply to: The Essence/Those Three Days/Come Pick Me Up Connection? #34752spencecbParticipantShe says that “Essence” was influenced by Ryan’s “Come Pick Me Up” during the Essence night from her stint at the El Rey. But, she can’t remember his name and she tries to sing the chorus from “Come Pick Me Up” but gets it wrong. It was kind of funny. If you have the CD from that night, you can hear her talk about it either before or after “Essence,” can’t remember which.
spencecbParticipantJust got my two tickets for Chicago. Couldn’t be more excited to see her at the beautiful Riviera!
spencecbParticipantGot two tickets for Chicago!!! So excited!
spencecbParticipantA second show in Chicago would be most welcome!!!
spencecbParticipantThanks for the response!
