My first Lucinda Williams show! I thought it was pretty good, but Alejandro was more impressive. Glad he was there.
I didn’t mind the coughing. Stuff happens.
I thought that the sound was awful. I was fifth row, center stage and had terrible sound in general. But the worst part was the drum beat bouncing off the back wall, stage left, that was about a second behind the actual beat. It went on for the entire show and was very distracting. Many people around me noticed it, too, and were trying to cup their ears to avoid it. I’m not sure what the problem was, but there was no such problem during Alejandro, and The Forum is well known for its excellent acoustics. It really took away from the show.
I’ve seen lots of talk about the presence of the song book. I thought it was kind of strange, but then I suppose that referring to a song book beats missing lyrics…it also gave her the option of taking requests, which was a nice touch. There’s just something a little weird about it….
I’ll see her again and hope for better sound….
