Last night was a typical case of a mismatch between an artist and a venue. Eindhoven has 2 larger venues for life shows: one for the more rocky shows and one for the acoustic shows. This show was originally advertised as ” an intimate evening with Lucinda Williams”. It was supposed to be Lucinda and Doug in an acoustic setting, hence the choice of venue.
The audience at the Muziekgebouw is generally a bit older and quiet. In general you won’t see them in the other venue.
The positive side is that the acoustics at the Muziekgebouw are wonderful. The sound at the other venue is not that good. Moreover people tend to talk a lot there and they are annoyingly loud, often spoiling it for other people.Tomorrow the Paradiso will be perfect.
SylviascdegraafParticipantGreat show in Eindhoven at the Muziekgebouw, a venue with fantastic acoustics. The only downside was the venue is rather formal: it’s a seated hall with a large distance between the stage and the audience. Lucinda didn’t like this and for the encore she invited the audience to leave their seats and move to the stage.
That didn’t prevent Lucinda from giving all she had.Setlist:
1. Side Of The Road
2. Car Wheels On A Gravel Road
3. Pineola
4. Crescent City
5. Something Abut What Happens When We Talk
6. Stoaway
7. When I Look At The World
8. Copenhagen
9. Concret And Barbed Wire
10. I Lost It
11. Drunken Angel
12. Something Wicked this Way Comes
13. Come On
14. Hard Time Killing Floor Blues

Encore:

21. Get Right With GodTomorrow I’ll see her again at the Amsteram Paradiso, a venue with not ideal acoustics, but a great atmosphere and the type of venue that fits Lucinda like a glove.

scdegraafParticipantWhat I saw in Utrecht were 2 type a T-shirts, the Little Honey one and one with a songtext.
A signed poster of Buick6 was also for sale and their CD.
SylviascdegraafParticipantI absolutely agree. Of all the times I have seen Lucinda this was her best show. She loved the venue (“this is rock ‘n’ roll) and the enthusiastic audience. The venue was not completely sold out, but near enough.
They wanted to rock and that’s what they did. It showed she felt at ease: not one false start, hardly any peeps into the songbook, dancing on stage, lots of fun beteen the band members. Her new guitar player Eric Schermerhorn didn’t dissapoint, he has a good sound and without Doug Pettibone Chet Lyster played a more prominent role.
Setlist:
I Just Wanted To See You So Bad
Can’t Let Go
Well Well Well
I Lost It
Concrete And Barbed Wire
Tears Of Joy
Passionate Kisses (solo)
Blue
Fruits Of My Labor
Drunken Angel
Pineola
Little Rock Star
Out Of Touch
Changed The Locks
Come On
Real Life Bleeding Fingers And Broken Guitar Strings
Essence
Honey Bee
Joy
Righteously
Encore:
Angel (dedicated to Michael Jackson)
Marching The Hate Machines Into The Sun
It’s A long Way To The Top If You Want To Rock ‘n’ Roll (long version)Then for those interested: what did she wear?
A pair of jeans, cowboy boots (snake print?), a black T-shirt with a golden T-Rex print, large buckle belt. Her hair was different, brown tossled hair with many highlights.Great show, I’m still rocking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SylviascdegraafParticipantI’ll keep you posted about the Utrecht (Netherlands) show, including what Lu wore (if I can see it, the Dutch are so terribly tall).
SylviascdegraafParticipantI found the answer: Lucinda’s set at Bospop has been rescheduled to 12th July, so she’ll have a show at Antwerp at 11th July and a set at Bospop on 12th July.
SylviascdegraafParticipantOn the forum a show for 11th July has been announced: Bospop in Weert (NL). I also received word from The Rivierenhof in Antwerp/Deurne (Belgium), announcing Lucinda there that night. Is that wrong or will Lucinda rush from that show to Bospop?

scdegraafParticipantFunny how 2 people get 2 very different impressions.
It’s true Lu made 2 false starts, but that’s almost her trademark. I have come to the point where I think 2 is not bad at all. Besides, she does it so charmingly you’d forgive her anything.
Moving the setlist around: that’s also very usual. She lets herself be influenced by the atmosphere in the venue, the sound, the audience. I know artist, Steve Earle is a “good”example who only play exactly as the setlist dictates and never changes one thing. I prefer Lu’s way.
Lu remarked that the sound in the venue was very good and she’s known to play great when the sound is good.
She was limited by the festival, she could only play 75 minutes.
I have seen her in 2006 and I definitely prefer this tour.
scdegraafParticipantI recorded the show. I had a quick listen and i.m.h.o. it sounds very good.
I will share it on Dime when I have time to prepare it.scdegraafParticipantI don’t have my copies either, but am also in Europe. I have mailed the web shop, but they don’t answer.
scdegraafParticipantRijssen is in the Netherlands.
Please note that the date for Haarlem is incorrect: the Roots of Heaven festival is NOT on 9th November, but on 10th November, a Saturday. Artists usually play a set of one hour, but of course I hope Lucinda will play a longer set. Unfortunately I can’t go to the Rijssen show.[/b] -
