she has no artifice and is entirely genuine in her presentation

you expressed that so perfectly. i must confess that i cannot be objective regarding lucinda. any time i am in her presence and witness her artistry and that lack of artifice, i am so moved and inspired that she can start over, change keys, read lines, whatever she needs and it never diminishes that experience of being “let in” by her.

homosacer, funny you say that…i was feeling the same way, but thought i was just annoyed that all i wanted to hear was lu. i loved watching her enjoying herself so much, but was a little surprised when everyone went so crazy when david byrne came out, i mean he’s good, but lucinda is up there with janis and bob and elvis.

GREAT SHOW! So wonderful to see Lucinda up there enjoying the fruits of her labor. I’m a relatively new fan and can’t believe I spent all those years without having her to listen to, but I’m making up for lost time, saw 3 of the shows. “Jailhouse Tears” at Irving Plaza on the “Essence” night was perfection. Jim Lauderdale and Lucinda have to record that together. His take on that is spot on. What a band she has assembled!

Tim, I got the same feeling about Doug Pettibone. Hope he’s not on his way out, he adds such dimension to her work.

Lucinda has guts and integrity. Stopping the songs wasn’t the action of someone trying to be a diva, it was impossible for her to hear it wrong and put it out there. She wasn’t being unprofessional, on the contrary, she has profound regard for her fans and that’s why she can’t abide it being mediocre even though it might sound great from where we sit.
How do you think she writes what she writes? Just because she makes it look so effortless doesn’t mean every phrase, word and note isn’t worked and reworked and refined to perfection.
I was at Irving Plaza on Sunday night for “Essence” and can say, without reservation, that it was one of the best concerts I have ever seen. Janis, Jimmy, Otis, Bob have all shaped my life in various ways but none of them came close to the…well, Janis maybe…but no one superseded the honesty and generosity and soul Lucinda has.
Everyone knows TIME OUT is completely lame, but reviews can be devastating, I don’t care who you are.
Don’t beat yourself up, Lu. You are a gift.
