I remember liking the all lucinda version of Jailhouse Tears but Costello’s vocals are horrid. I don’t like it at all and it really ruins the song and stalls the album. It doesn’t fit with the continuity of the record. Shoulda been a B side.

I’d love for some early stuff in the second set. Like A Rose, Memphis Pearl, Sweet Old World…

A cynical fan’s thoughts on Little Honey.

I’m sure most people around here remember my very sour reaction to West and probably are dreading my reaction to the new record. Well, even I was dreading my reaction. I was not ready to write off one of my favorite artist. Well, luckily I don’t have to. I was pleasantly surprised with Little Honey. Mostly due to the fact that I didn’t like the direction of songs like Honey Bee. I wasn’t ready for a Lucinda ROCK record because I really didn’t think it was something she was truly capable of and felt it might come of insincere.

Well, she’s very sincere here. I’ve even grown to enjoy Honey Bee. It sounds much better here than it had in earlier live versions. I think it fits within the context of the greater album at work here. That is something I didn’t like about West was that despite it’s attempt at cohesiveness it just wasn’t that at all. Too many stand outs and filler. A truly great album shouldn’t have “stand out’s” as all the songs should be worthy of praise (think Rumours).

Little Honey, reminds me very much of my first listen to Car Wheels on a Gravel Road in so far as many of the songs felt like a smooth blend. This album has a really natural flow in the same way as CWOGR. I wouldn’t say this album is in the same league as Car Wheels because it just isn’t but it has very similar qualities. This album feels like a natural progression from World Without Tears.

As for the songs, I’ve always been a sucker for the downers and so far If Wishes Were Horses is my favorite. That is a beautiful song. Definitely in the top 10 LW songs for me. I also adore Circle’s and X’s, Plan To Marry, Tears Of Joy, Real Love and Knowing. Like I said before though, this album is more about a progression of mood than song for song analysis.

I would definitely rank it above West, Essence and Sweet Old World but I don’t think it can surpass Self Titles, World Without Tears or Car Wheels. Perhaps it can in time but those three are pretty much locked in place….

I can see what you mean. I had thought it sounded like Fruits of my Labor.

Tears of Joy is excellent, even if it is a little bit of a rehash of Fruits of my Labor. I know a lot of this record is compiled of songs written from different periods. Was this one written during World Without Tears?

If Wishes Were Horses is also an excellent song. I could definitely see this one becoming my favorite of the new records.

Jaillhouse Tears and Real Love are both solid rock style songs. Elvis’ vocals are meh but this would still be a fun jam song. Could Doug sing it live?

jeez. now I remember why I stray away from artist specific forums.

99% of the time it’s a bunch of overzealous fans who think said artist can do no wrong that beat up on the seemingly level headed fans who see the flaws.

Her set list is uninspired. Her reputation of the past few years is getting a bit out of hand. All she is going to do is alienate new fans who go to see her. Much like the people here will also alienate anyone who breaks from the group think.

shouldnt the main page be updated to show that she has a forthcoming album?

    Just an idea….

Get her self titled record. It’s amazing.

World Without Tears has some of her best material as well. The title track, Fruits of my Labor, Those Three Days.
