I just bought the EP and I too am basking in the power and relevance. On a personal note, I was in attendance at the Greensboro, NC show September 23, 2007 in which three of the songs were recorded. During the show Lucinda read a note that was handed to her before the show by a new fan named Roger who was a Viet Nam vet. Roger was moved by the song “Are You All Right” which he heard on the radio and sought out Lucinda to tell her how the song was sung at a eulogy for a platoon mate who was recently buried in the Arlington National Cemetary. He and other remaining soldiers from the platoon sang the song at the friend’s gravesite. Lucinda said she was touched by the emotion, so much so that she debuted “For What It’s Worth” live that night. She also read the Ferlinghetti poem “Pity The Nation” that night. You can hear it on this YouTube link as spoken by the author.

That was my first Lucinda show. I was already a fan, but that night I knew I was experiencing something special, and powerful. To hear three of these very same songs again tonight is goose bumps material.

    Good stuff. Thanks Lu.

Thanks for bringing this topic back on track Thomas.

I also respect those thoughts of people who think musicians shouldn’t mix politics with their music, although I personally disagree with that notion.

I say this as I am watching Hank Williams, Jr. “stump” for Sarah Palin. I disgree with his opinions but I respect his right to be heard.

I think I can speak for everyone here OpheliaPoet in that we really don’t need to know about your husband’s cousin’s medical insemination. That is way more information than I care to read in a thread about Lucinda’s political leanings. Way more.

If you click the 2nd link, the one for “Review and Set Lists” there are a sh!tload of videos. Nicely done nick. I liked the review, and it looks like Lucinda is doing the David Byrne 30/30/30 set list model someone on this forum was touting last month. That person said he is boycotting the shows. Great, more room for the rest of us.

Oh please, Ophelia, I am a red blooded American too, and that’s why I am so frustrated with the horrible direction that our great nation has taken. By buying the protest CD I’m not protesting against America, I’m protesting against the poor leadership we currently have.

…..and did I read that Obama is a con man? That’s laughable.

David the “Bone of Contention” on the “Lu in 08” EP is in fact a live version. I think it was recorded this summer (2008) in Milwaukee. Insider Guy mentioned that in a different thread.

Well, I guess it’s a matter of perception. On the fourth row I’m limited to only seeing those in front of me and most of them sat motionless. Some of us had to pull their hooting and hollering weight for them. Remember at some point Lucinda said, “Is everybody okay?” as if we were dead or something. And then she said, “I like it when y’all yell,” presumably because she felt we needed encouragement.

Oh well……hey how about Lu on Letterman last night? And I guess Letterman really liked Butch’s drumming.

Thanks JohnInTO. That was well said. I guess the reason I defend her recent setlists is that I am excited about the new material, so I’m eager to hear it live. I love the old material too, but I more excited to see in what direction Lucinda’s music will evolve. Sure it would be good to throw in an older nugget or two in each show, but the more recent songs she throws in are cool too.

I still don’t understand why Lucinda should care what David Byrne does. I like David Byrne but shouldn’t each artist develop their own program? This is her “Little Honey Tour.”
