another one.
punchdrunkloveParticipantSpecial note to punchdrunklove-You had better get after Mr. Overby like you did last year to get Lu to South America. You would be a great promoter.
that’s very kind. a friend asked me one day (in 2009) “can you fill an elevator with her brazilian fans?” and right now i think you can fill a whole (albeit small) venue. we got the 2016 olympics, but bringing lucinda here seems quite a harder task.

i wrote about buttercup (in portuguese, sorry) here: http://umamusicatododia.blogspot.com/2011/01/buttercup-lucinda-williams.html?spref=tw
i think you might want to stick around, since i’ll be posting lots of (incredible) brazilian songs and some *commercially unrealeased* bootlegs from lucinda that you won’t believe. one song per day, just another time-consuming project of mine.
punchdrunkloveParticipant“Good luck finding your buttercup” would be a great t-shirt saying. 😉
💡 genius.

i’m still listening to it (yeah, 80th time or so). such a worthy opener. i think i can get to 100 before brain necrosis.
punchdrunkloveParticipantstill listening to it (30th time or so). i’m quite riveted. i’m very surprised by its mix, the youtube video somewhat misled me (it sounds a bit more cruel/bitter there, maybe because the audience went crazy on the chorus). this is a wonderfully good-spirited song (more similar to “sweet side” than some other bad boy songs, say, “metal firecracker”), but it’s not as picaresque and humorous as “jailhouse tears” (a song i don’t really love). lucinda said buttercup is for the same person she wrote JT, and you can see that both feature a somewhat “empowered” way of looking at things. “good luck finding your buttercup” is not exactly a “fuck you”, as a commentator on the youtube video said, it’s more like “take care”, precisely because of what comes before: “now you want somebody to be your buttercup”. you get the idea she’s just remembering things instead of being pissed off by them.
but it’s quite more than that: this is the first NEW lucinda song i listen as a Big Fan (early ’09). ok, there’s “kiss like your kiss”, but i didn’t know back then it would be on the new album and elvis costello is in it (nothing wrong with that). buttercup is 100% lucinda. i’m more than happy, the song itself is pretty terrific and should work amazingly well as a single. all the best to everyone involved in it! thanks, thanks, thanks.
punchdrunkloveParticipantand SO GOOD.

i’m so happy. thanks!
punchdrunkloveParticipantsorry, it’s 2005 indeed. but it’s still not listed, tntracy.
punchdrunkloveParticipantfrom the top of my head, lucinda is guest vocal in “nanny’s song”. it’s from “just believe it”, by susan cowsill (2010). great song, btw.
punchdrunkloveParticipantmissed it AGAIN. ten minutes too late AGAIN (now 15).
i’m not kidding. take a look: http://newmedia.kcrw.com/tracklists/index.php?channel=Music
punchdrunkloveParticipantNOOO. i just went over to kcrw.com and found out i missed buttercup by 10 minutes. it was on 8:45pm.
punchdrunkloveParticipant“now you want somebody to be your buttercup/ good luck finding your buttercup.”
these verses are destined to become classics.

Live bootlegs that are not otherwise commercially available, like audience-recorded stuff…
No worries!
Tom
yes! not commercially available, of course. i’m usually quite cautious with the stuff i upload (on youtube, e.g.), i have no idea what went through my mind. definitely not happening again.
punchdrunkloveParticipantnever ever will do that again. bootlegs only, it’s a promise.

there you go!
(EDIT: Post edited by moderator to remove URL. Links to commercially-available, copyrighted material are not permitted in the forum. This track has not even been released yet…)
punchdrunkloveParticipantthank you. i’ll keep an eye on it, although i’ve never seen this listed on ebay or dimeadozen, e.g.
so, just like real love, the radio edit of righteously is the original version made shorter? the radio edit is 40 seconds shorter as far as i remember. oh, i had thought i was gonna listen to a different version entirely!
