punchdrunkloveParticipant
good lord, “dedicated to the one i love”. i ADORE this song.
the shirelles’ and laura nyro’s versions, of course.
btw, there’s a duet with the superb sharon jones. get to know this lady, people. she’s a national treasure. yours!!!
punchdrunkloveParticipantNo iguanas in this Passionate Kisses video.
From Koln Germany’s Rockpalast Nov. /07
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLGKyVsZIXMoooh yes, one of my very favorite videos. one day i’ll upload every song from the rockpalast show. the audience couldn’t be colder, christ, but the show is thrilling. someone already uploaded righteously, from this show. but passionate kisses, lucinda solo, is obviously the way to go.
this person uploaded some incredible videos recently: bobbie gentry, randy newman, john sebatsian, xtc, van morrison, kate mcgarrigle, r&l thompson. jeez, thank you, friend.
Well, there’s for sure more material to make more videos on there, many good candidates, but i think Passionate Kisses Stands out, sorry 😥
IJWTSYSB is SO. MUCH. BETTER.
🙂

especially now that I’ve found some alternate recordings from the sessions with seemingly more stripped down versions production wise that I think are better than the official release.
you’re killing us here, mr. overby. 😮

It looks like it might debut at Rolling Stone.com but that’s still being discussed. I can say that it will be interesting to see the response to this video, as I don’t think it’s going to be what might be expected.
thank you. i’m looking forward to it.
punchdrunkloveParticipantso weird to say that a song is PUNISHING. what does that mean?

tom, you’re the one to make the 12-minute version of WRAP available to us. just go for it! 💡

Passionate Kisses is obviously the best choice for a hit video from the s/t album… has she made any other music videos?
MAN, i really think that i just wanted to see you so bad would be an even cooler choice. am i the only one who thinks that?
maybe big red sun blues, too. nevermind, i’m weird, i’m the guy who thinks it’s not THAT inappropriate that the american label of the zombies released as a first single of their goddamnamazing ODYSSEY AND ORACLE album the song BUTCHER’S TALE (instead of every other digestible, adorable, sunny, stunning song on that record). gutsy choice.
Lucinda has no other official videos although we have just done an animated video for Copenhagen which should be premiering in the next couple of weeks. It was done by the same animators who do the Squidbillies show.
this is so cool! where can we see it after the release?
thanks for the lizard info, tom.
punchdrunkloveParticipantthose alternate titles.
punchdrunkloveParticipantthank you. i just wish to know more about its origins. the video was produced years before the grammy, so it’s a bit of a coincidence, like why this song and not other just as – or more – hit-worthy-material (i just wanted . . .)? who thought of it: lucinda, the record company, or both?
can’t believe no one that interviews lucinda mentions about this videoclip. questions waiting to happen.
what was like to record a videoclip? did you enjoy it? where did you get the lizards? the lizard thing was whose idea? why just this one?
punchdrunkloveParticipantisn’t ‘i’m so happy i found you’ a sweet title for a song?
punchdrunkloveParticipantIn KC it was obvious that Blake Mills was still learning the songs, but the other night in Raleigh, it was clear that he’d given up trying to sound like the old band and had made these songs his own.
yes, i sense that too. i didn’t mean to sound disrespectful before. i don’t expect the album versions of the songs to be exactly rendered on stage – imagine how boring this would be. there’s not a song in the world that is such a monumental cornerstone that you can’t do something new about it out of respect. in fact, i like to be surprised. and i was surprised. not a bad thing. rock on et al.
i’m eager to listen what lucinda and the band can do with songs as diverse as real love, memphis pearl and sharp cutting wings.
punchdrunkloveParticipantwhat happened to car wheels??? it sounds different. those impeccable riffs all polished, sweet, jazzy and whatnot. i think that quite agreed with the song they being furious and wildly appealing.
punchdrunkloveParticipantnot exactly, more because i love both songs, and is always cool to see lovely things glued together.
side of the road has been snubbed in this tour (which is wrong because it’s just the best song from the 80s), but steal your love got the – rightly deserved – darlin’ status based on recent setlists.
but i’m still waiting for a setlist with 2 kool, mama you sweet, road & steal.
punchdrunkloveParticipant10. Side of the Road
11. Steal Your Lovehighlight. obviously.
punchdrunkloveParticipantyeah, that was a bit of a lousy file image-wise.
but the small problem during righteously – at 1’06-07 – is entirely “my” fault. i think i’ll reup it soon. you can’t let that slide!
next up: lucinda on austin chronicle awards, 1993. 4 songs in a fiery performance (with a guitarrist – not gurf, who’s also there – that beams in a really disturbing way): pineola, something about . . ., and goddamn brilliant performances of hot blood & change the locks. lousy, lousy image, though.
punchdrunkloveParticipantyes, this is the televised version, not released in any format, otherwise it wouldn’t have been posted.
when i saw those videos, a year or so ago, i wondered exactly WHY the program put lucinda and old crow medicine show to share a 50-minute presentation if they could, at least, give this amount of time for each one of them, making two episodes out of two shows. there’s something bouncier about this performance that makes each one of the five songs more meaningful, and while 98’s setlist is terrific and we have 75 minutes of stuff, i’d be hard pressed to favor it over the scrapes of this 2007 performance.
this version of west is easily, clearly one of the 5 greatest videos we’ve got from LW out there.
