PhilthyParticipant
Speaking from the ‘rest of the world’, I am terrified of the McCain, Palin combo reaching the whitehouse. The thought that someone with such a vague grasp of geography (where exactly is Iraqistan?), history (hardly surprising from a person that thinks the (flat?) earth is only a few thousand years old), technology (nobody will guess that I used the name of my pit-bull as an internet password, right?) and politics (isn’t that spelt with an ‘K’?) could become the guardian of the most powerful arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in the world, scares me half to death! And Sarah isn’t a lot better (b-dum ching!)
And just in case you think I am in the minority – I am not.

If I thought I could get US citizenship in time for the election, I would move to the most marginal state tomorrow!
PhilthyParticipantThanks Stella and Parker – I have ordered the LA set. Of course, I am sure I will end up buying the NYC as well sooner or later but 5 new LW albums (and Little Honey to come) is enough for now!

Anyone know whats happened to the live shows that you could buy on the old site.
They are still there but very hard to find! You need to click on the album cover on the Home page – immediately under the Little Honey pic. It would be nice if there was a more obvious link (hint.)
btw – Can somebody that owns both sets of recordings please recommend which of NYC and LA is the better buy?
PhilthyParticipantI have tried both Safari and Firefox with the same result. Odd.
And I have cookies enabled on both browsers.
PhilthyParticipantGreat new look to the site but I have one niggle – I keep getting a message saying that I don’t have cookies enabled when I try to access the Store page. 😯
Anyone else getting this? Is it cos I drive a Mac?

But liking Hillary and choosing to vote for McCain on the basis of Palin makes about as much sense as wanting a Chihuahua and buying a St. Bernard.
Pitbull surely? 😕
PhilthyParticipantI’m 100% with you on that one Arthurly.

Is that negativity? I think it’s just personal taste/preference.’8)’
Exactly. No one is saying that there is anything intrinsically right or wrong about Elvis’s duet – or I hope they’re not – they were merely making their personal thoughts known.
Except that, for a while, only the people whose personal taste made them hate Costello’s contribution were voicing their onion. I guess that some of us others decided a little balance was in order.
Peace.
PhilthyParticipantAnother vote for Elvis.
His voice is certainly unusual but also extraordinarily soulful and brimming with character. He is also a masterful songwriter and an extraordinarily gifted wordsmith.
The comments above could also apply to Lucinda herself. Neither Lu nor Elvis are to everyone’s taste. But both richly reward the effort required to get past ones immediate aversion to their less than chart-standard voices.
I believe that both recognise these qualities in the other, hence their frequent collaborations and obvious mutual admiration.
So give the guy another listen please.

The single will be available in the UK the last week of Sept.
Thanks. But I have already got a copy – and not legally. Whoever told you that us brits are renowned for our patience was wrong!
I will buy a CD copy of album of course – but from the US not from the UK – I would love to know how come the pre-order on Amazon UK is £14.99 – more than twice the US asking price!
This is not a dig at LU. The same price differentials exist across all music in the UK – we pay more through iTunes, Amazon, in the shops, everywhere! It is attitudes like this from the industry that drive people to piracy. When will the corporate a**holes behind music recognise that they are living in a global economy and that they can’t stuff the internet genie back into the bottle? National fiefdoms for music sales CANNOT survive in the modern world – evolve or die suckers!
Sorry about that – rant over – I would have loved to have been able to buy Real Love (which I really love – ha ha) legally, with an offset against my eventual purchase of the full album, on iTunes. It is a shame that the UK release got screwed up so badly – especially since the prices on iTunes are not TOO much above what US consumers pay (why am I actually pleased about only being slightly ripped off? – LEAVE IT PHIL!) But now it seems that you will have to wait for my money until the full album arrives – just be warned, if us poor relations end up getting that a month late as well, I might allow my impatience to guide me yet again!
PhilthyParticipantThanks IJ! 😀

Can you get it through amazon.com?
Afraid not. iTunes US and Amazon.com downloads aren’t available to customers in the UK. They like to keep us brits paying twice as much for our music than you lucky yankees! No wonder people turn to piracy!
Question is, why haven’t they released it through the UK iTunes? It may only be a tiny market but it’s still a market! Inside job?
PhilthyParticipantSadly, the single hasn’t been released on UK iTunes. 😥
PhilthyParticipantThat is fantastic news Inside Job – Nottingham is a great place to play (hint!)
PhilthyParticipantWhat’s the problem with the book? Sure some artists can remember the words to hundreds of songs and never slip up – on the other hand some can’t.
I write songs myself and occasionally perform them and I have great difficulty remembering the words or the order of the verses in a few of my songs. I sometimes use a crib sheet live with the first words of each line on it, I reckon that’s better than mangling the songs.
Also, remember that classical musicians play from music scores rather then memorising everything, isn’t this the same thing?
As for the false starts, there are two ways to go if you make a pig’s ear of a song – keep going and try to ride it out or stop and start again – either way people are going to notice so it is really up to the performer which they choose and we all know which Lucinda prefers. As for why the false starts happen, I put it down to the same cause as the book, a dodgy memory – if you can forget the words, you can forget the chords as well!
Late starts and curtailed shows is the least forgivable of the four for me. This shows a lack of professional courtesy for the people that have paid (usually over the odds) to see her perform. I’m not going to defend her for this.
Which brings me to the meltdowns and f-bombs. While I agree that this can be off-putting for some, I see this as a part of Lu’s personality, part of what makes her so great. She pours her heart into her songs and her performances, laying herself so open that her emotions are barely in check. I enjoy this aspect of her. I am awestruck by the amount of herself that she gives in every song. If the downside to this is that she is less able to cope with technical issues, audience heckling, etc. to me that is a small price to pay.
