PhilthyParticipant
A good post Stu. I am with you 100%.
By way of analogy, even if Lu drinks most nights when she is touring – so what? Who is to say that she carries that over into her life off the road? And who knows whether she keeps on drinking until she collapses on those nights, or just stops when she has had enough? (A true alkie only stops when there is no bottle available or they pass out – is anyone claiming that Lu is in this kind of state?)
I kept out of this thread for a long while because it was just a spate of opposite opinions battering against each other – I than tried to point out that arguing from opposite, subjective points of view was pointless – but when it came down to speculation about Lu’s ‘drinking problems’ based upon a handful of sightings of her less than sober! I mean, lets have a bit of perspective here people! if you met me at 11:00pm on any Saturday night, you would have reason to think the same of me – but meet me at the same time on a Tuesday and you would find me completely sober and none the worse for it.
PB has drink issues of his own which he has overcome (and for which he deserves our praise) but sadly, this obviously leads him to view every happy drunk as someone in the same state as he used to inhabit – this is simply not the case – the vast majority of casual drinkers NEVER become problem drinkers or alcoholics.
Or is just the drink talking? hic!
PhilthyParticipantThat is all very well PB but you have NO evidence that Lu is showing any of those warning signs. All you know is that you have seen her drunk, in the company of others I might add, after a few shows. I saw again that the conclusions that you have drawn from that are purely speculative and constitute solely YOUR opinion, not fact.
As such, you are wrong to voice them in a public forum.
And furthermore, I very much hope that you are wrong.
PhilthyParticipantPit Bull,
Just because Lu (allegedly) likes a drink does not mean that she automatically has a problem.
I have drank alcohol on a regular basis for years and occasionally been extremely drunk as a result of it. but I do not consider that I have a problem and certainly not a disease! Not everyone that drinks regularly, nor everyone that gets a little too drunk once in a while is a raging alcoholic that needs to ‘admit they have a problem!’ I can quite happily go for days or even weeks without a drink, and often do, but I enjoy a few drinks with friends and sometimes, rarely, if the mood is right, I enjoy having a few too many – although not necessarily the day after! I appreciate that some people, yourself included, have serious problem with alcohol and I respect your honesty in sharing that with us here. However, please don’t assume that every time you see a fellow human being inebriated they are necessarily in denial and need to take the cure!
Specifically, I believe that you are out of order to assume that Lucinda has such issues merely because you have seen her drunk a few times. And further, I believe that you are seriously out of order to publicise what is in fact nothing more than your opinion of anyone on a public forum like this.
And even if she does have a drink problem, not that it is anyone’s business but hers and those close to her, I am sure that you realise that she needs to admit that herself first and that nothing anyone else does can make a difference until she does. So what exactly are you hoping to achieve by making such proclamations, except to stir up trouble?
They do say that there are no worse zealots than the recently converted. I believe that we may be seeing a little of that from you here.

The discussion got ridiculous, didn’t it?
It started ridiculous – it got worse!
Simple facts:
1. To some people Lu isn’t as good as she used to be.
2. To other people, she is better than ever.
3. Both of these facts are true, but only because they assert that people hold these onions.
4. Whether Lu is in fact better or worse than she was at any other point is purely subjective.
5. Subjective facts are NOT worth arguing about with the vitriol and ad hominum attacks used in this thread. So can we all have a nice cup of tea and agree to differ? Thanks.
PhilthyParticipantWebMASTA,
No one is blaming you (and certainly not Tom or Lucinda) for the mismatch between availability across the world. The problem lies with an industry that still has its head up its 20th century backside and hasn’t bothered to move with the times, merely expecting the shekels to keep pouring in as long as they put their ‘product’ in nice boxes. Trouble is, we live in a global, digital world now. An album can be on the other side of the world in less time than it takes to say its name out loud and all of these provincial deals, where different companies ‘own’ the rights to sell an artists work in different countries, are unworkable and have been for the best part of a decade.
Is it any wonder that people turn to illegal downloads and bit-torrents when they are unable to purchase the genuine article merely because they live on the wrong side of some imaginary line in the sand? And once those people get used to picking up whatever recordings they want for free out of necessity, is it any wonder that many never go back?
I have always believed in supporting artists. I will pay a reasonable price for a legal download / CD every time. But when that legal option does not exist…
…well let’s just say that I’ve come to the point in the discussion where I plead the 5th, as you colonial chappies put it!
PhilthyParticipant…and question 3 – when can those of us outside of the US get a look in?
(Feeling very left out over here on my little island 😥 )
PhilthyParticipantGreat news but I have a couple of questions.
1. What is the sample rate of the recordings?
2. How come no Live 08 EP? I am still waiting (impatiently) for the promised UK availability!PhilthyParticipantThis is the first forum that beat me to this post. The last member of the Experience gone – anyone else feel a little old and exposed today?
He was a really original drummer. Very few drummers add more than a beat to a band but MM did – He was more of a soloist than a part of the rhythm section, leaving Noel to provide the pulse, Mitch played between the beats, giving Jimi the license to go wherever he wanted to in the band.
I just hate people dying – some more than others.

Is there any chance that wasn’t really Bob? Seems un-Bob-like to me.
I guess even Bob gets tired of being Bob-like some of the time.
PhilthyParticipant1) Shows that would have a chronological setlist like the second set of the first show in Mpls or the show in Madison. 5 – I’m pretty much neutral on this one. I tend to order the songs in my head in the order that I bought the albums – which is pretty random.
2) Shows that would have split sets -with the first set being ballads etc, a break, and then the second set being rock. 8 – I like this idea a lot better.
3) Similar to number 2– in larger cities where we could do it or where the right venue exists–doing two nights, with the first night being the ballads etc and the second night more rock. 6 – My concern with this one is that the ‘larger city’ in the UK would almost certainly be London – spending two nights down there would be expensive and a half for me!
4) Closing the year with a return of the album shows -probably only in one city 5 – and that one city would probably be in another country as far as I am concerned – I suppose if I won that lottery… must buy a ticket!
5) Don’t change anything -I like the shows as they are. 7 – The show I caught in minneapolis was pretty close to perfect, although it was pretty close to option 3 in format anyway.
In a different and more general category:
1) To offset the venues that charge Ticketmaster fees -we are considering offering those fees back as a credit at the merch table -does this have appeal 10 – I think this is a wonderful gesture – although boycotting toutmaster altogether would be better.2) Being aware of the past fan club fiasco- does a fan club hold any appeal if it made sense and had value? 10 – Very much so!
3) The possibility of being able to buy tickets before the general public -(possibly as part of a fan club?) 10 – especially if those tickets were NOT at an inflated price, as some pre-sales seem to be.
4) More live releases -(possibly as part of a fan club?) (1-10) 10 – Neutral on the format as long as the digital quality is high enough.
4a) Digital only (1-10) 5
4b) Prefer cd (1-10) 55) What cities have we missed? Nottingham UK!
6) And last but not least, what did I miss?–consider this the suggestion box. Simultaneous, identical releases in both the USA and the rest of the world. We are in a global economy nowadays.
Thanks for setting up this little questionnaire Tom – it feels great to have ones humble onion appreciated!
PhilthyParticipantTom,
Did you clear your cache and close and restart your browser? Sometimes it needs both to work. Rebooting your machine after clearing the cache can help ‘stubborn’ sites as well.

PhilthyParticipantIt does amaze me the way that an incumbent president is allowed to limp on (and even push through legislation for which he no longer has a mandate) in spite of being voted out of office. I am sure that this happens in no other country than the US (with the exception of Zimbabwe, only there it’s not legal!) I just hope Bush doesn’t take the opportunity to bomb Iran or something equally insane.
PhilthyParticipantI have to admit that the USA looks like a much friendlier place from over here all of a sudden.
PhilthyParticipantI don’t know why but I get the webcast when I follow that link but not when I click on the ‘Home’ link on the site menu. 😕
I shall go figure!
PhilthyParticipantCan somebody please explain why this album is not available legally outside of the USA? Or could someone give a date as to when it will be?
I would much prefer to purchase this music legally through official sources but I am not made of patience and I am aware of several less than official outlets that are quite happily stocking this product – temptation looms!
Once again the poor cousins are left to fend for themselves!
