in reply to: Emily Barker and the Red Clay Halo #39272

Last week, I took a brief holiday to London to enjoy two shows by Emily Barker and the Red Clay Halo, during their last tour before a planned hiatus.

Wednesday night, they performed at St. James Church in London–then, Thursday night, a much different scene at a small pub in Guildford, a suburban town about 30 miles southwest of London.

Here’s an excellent review of the London show:

Sad to read that Kasey is having medical issues with her vocal chords. Hopefully, her respite will alleviate the problem:

As of this moment (11:35 AM PDT, Oct. 2), Slim’s is now selling tickets to this show, on their website only. Will-call only, no hard tickets, you must enter the venue immediately from will-call.

Apparently, the earlier “the only way you can get tickets is to write a personal note” has been modified.
Opening act is Rose’s Pawn Shop.

Thanks, tonyg, for posting the setlist.

A pleasant hour’s show, outdoors on the breezy Santa Monica Pier. Good to meet tonyg, grumpymama, and jstreet.

Lots of room to enjoy the show, while moving in the periphery of the VIP area, or listening in the backstage (actually sidestage) bar, while overlooking the beach and ocean. I believe tonyg had a more negative experience, trying to maintain his territory closer to the stage. He may report later.

As expected, the band members were Stuart, David, and Butch; Lucinda indicated this band would play the November tour.

SPIRIT works as pre-sale password for the Ogden Theatre in Denver, for Sunday, Nov. 2. Not all that significant, since the venue is general admission, mostly standing room, with a few GA seats in the balcony.

Set times are now confirmed, with Lucinda @ 7:20-8:20, on Sept. 26.

Just to speculate as a dispassionate observer, the phase “Sold Out” for the City Winery may simply mean that the City Winery is not selling tickets to this event. All Americana Music Festival (AMF) events at the City Winery, Sept. 17-21, are listed as “Sold Out” on the City Winery website, but the AMF website repeatedly mentions badges and wristbands (not venue tickets) for all events at all venues. Venues can limit entry based on credentials and capacity, but “Sold Out” seems absent from the AMF protocol.

From the AMF website (in Expanded mode), this specific event is detailed as:

    **************************************************
    The Third Annual Gospel Brunch

    PRESENTED BY THIRTY TIGERS

    11 AM – 1 PM • CITY WINERY • 609 LAFAYETTE STREET

Join The McCrary Sisters, Fairfield Four, Elizabeth Cook and special guests for a Gospel Brunch at City Winery. In keeping with Thirty Tigers events of the past, chicken and waffles will be served. Free entry with Americanafest badges and wristbands or $15 at the door. Space is limited – first come, first served.”
    *************************************************

A passionate observer (with a badge or wristband) in Nashville on Sunday morning might choose to consider this event.
