Not to dispute that the Mountain Winery is an expensive venue, but have you examined the prices for Neil Young performing solo? for example, Austin: $59.50, $99.50, $199.50, $249.50; Atlanta: $90.45, $112.05, $145.15, $250.65. Perhaps, the recession is over…for concert promoters…
paul_from_losangelesParticipant“Steal Your Love” from Love and Circumstance is now available for listening on Carrie’s MySpace page.
paul_from_losangelesParticipantYes, tonyg, Hotel Cafe is located on Cahuenga in Hollywood. Note that it’s not a hotel, and it’s not a cafe. I’ll send you a private message with my comments. For now, you can read the comments on yelp:

paul_from_losangelesParticipantLucinda performed Factory Blues at the New York #1 show of October 4, 2009, and the Chicago #1 show of October 13, 2009. You can find those threads and setlists in the Lucinda Shows section.
paul_from_losangelesParticipantI’ll add my own experience from last night:
Dave Rawlings Machine, featuring Gillian Welch, at the Troubadour:Ticket Price: 24.99
Facility Charge: 2.00
Convenience Charge: 7.75
Order Processing Fee: 4.80
TicketFast Delivery: 2.50Total Charges: 42.04
Ticket Price of 24.99 = 59% of total;
Fees & Charges of 17.05 = 41% of total.paul_from_losangelesParticipantOn Lucinda’s page at http://www.losthighwayrecords.com, the NPR show is identified as “On Point” with Tom Ashbrook.
At http://www.npr.org, you can select programs, then “On Point” at the left under news/talk.
After you reach the “On Point” page, you can select “Ways to Listen”, and see a list of radio stations and streaming instructions.
paul_from_losangelesParticipantThank you, stoger, for the setlist. You obviously awoke much earlier than either Tom Tracy or myself. Of course, I first needed to survive the Sunday crush for breakfast at Embassy Suites.
I can mention that Susannah had 2 new T-shirts for their first sales appearance last night. The shirts are black, with a photo or drawing of Lucinda, related to the early albums.
The venue was very crowded, but not sold-out, and there were signs offering to sell tickets at no extra fee for the next 2 nights. The audience seemed very mellow, except for one sad soul, who repeatedly shouted for “Blue”, obviously one night early.
It looks like a beautiful day to walk around Manhattan–so I’ll bid adiou for now. And, Dr. Stoger, I will not be searching the porno shops for the rip-off of “One Night Stand”.
paul_from_losangelesParticipantJust an observation (use at your own discretion), but the Irving Plaza (Live Nation) website now specifies each show starting at 8:30, rather than the 8:00 originally announced. I believe this format has no opening act…Lucinda will highlight the 3 albums for that evening, take a break, and then return with a set of other songs.
paul_from_losangelesParticipantRegarding the Friendly Forum Fans photo, I’m in the front, between Tom and Lafayette.
paul_from_losangelesParticipantJust a quick report between the concert and the reception:
The music started about 8:30, before an extremely crowded venue. There was no opening act. Lucinda performed a selection of songs in chronological order of her albums.
1. Motherless Children
2. Stop Breakin Down
3. Lafayette
4. Happy Woman Blues
5. I Just Wanted To See You So Bad
6. Big Red Sun Blues
7. Changed the Locks
8. Pineola
9. Sweet Old World
10. Concrete & Barbed Wire
11. I Lost It
12. Joy
13. Out Of Touch
14. Essence
15. Bleeding Fingers
16. Righteously
17. Come On
18. HoneyBee
19. Plan To Marry
20. I’m Happy I Found You (Hank Williams song)At this point, the music stopped, and Lucinda introduced her father, Miller Williams.
Miller then read his poem “The Caterpillar”.We then were treated to the beautiful wedding ceremony of Lucinda and Tom.
After the ceremony, the evening concluded with:
21. Happy (Rolling Stones song)
22. It’s A Long Way to the Top…paul_from_losangelesParticipantReporting live from the Business Center at the Graves 601 Hotel. I just checked-in, after an uneventful flight from LAX. The hotel is trendy and beautiful, and fairly quiet, so far. Guests must sign a no-party, no-noise document, upon check-in, with stiff penalties, including expulsion.
For information of other guests (stoger, tntracy, etc.), the Business Center is located on the 4th floor, across from the elevator from the lobby, then a right turn, and a left turn. There’s a locked brown door, with a sign “Business Center”. You need your room key to open the Business Center door. There are 2 free computers inside.
It should be an interesting evening…more to follow!!
paul_from_losangelesParticipantAlso, O’Donovan’s Irish Pub is at 700 1st Avenue, directly across the street from the First Avenue venue.
There’s a good map of the local establishments at:
http://www.mplswarehouse.com/maps/WDBAMap2009.pdf
On the map, Hard Rock Cafe and Hooters are in the Block E complex (62 on the map).
O’Donovan’s is 64 on the map, and the First Avenue venue is 65.paul_from_losangelesParticipantLots of comments, and the full Elvis setlist, on the Elvis Costello fans bulletin board:
http://www.elviscostellofans.com
Select “Message Board”;
Select “Elvis Costello General Discussion”;
Select “Elvis to Play Greek Theatre in LA August 18?”.paul_from_losangelesParticipantTicketmaster is now listing a 3-day pass for the Park West, among the selections on-sale on Saturday, August 15, at 10 AM CDT.
paul_from_losangelesParticipantOn Ticketmaster, other Park West events (already on sale) specify options for both GA Floor and GA Balcony for each show; you probably can’t roam between the floor and balcony. The Park West website has photographs, showing little tables, tiny lamps, and open floor space. Here’s a link below to comments about the Park West: generally favorable, but a repeated theme of flexibility about sitting and standing. Seems like a venue where you need to arrive early, just to see the setup, and select your spot.
