Dear Anyse,
It was wonderful that you should share your thoughts and reveal what you have been going through in your personal life. To be open takes courage and strength. As someone who has suffered with depression, etc for years I can relate to what you wrote about your connection to Lu’s songs. Some of them really are lifesavers, and touch me on a feeling level I can find nowhere else. Strangely, ‘Sweet Old World’ is also a song I’ve been listening to lately and finding great comfort in playing.
You look after yourself best you can…
padchioParticipantAll this about favourite Lu albums is interesting stuff. My list would be as of today, although that would could and will change, is as follows –
1. Car Wheels – her most complete and consistent album I would say.
2. Lucinda Williams – simply because it has Passionate Kisses and Side of the Road bunched together.
3. WWT – first album of hers I bought after seeing Lu play Overtime on the BBC, so means a lot. Great if you are lovelorn.
4. Happy Woman Blues – might be a surprise to some but I love the simple sound of this album with its fiddle.
5. Sweet Old World – Always listen to this album when I’m blue. Cheers me up in a weird sort of way.
6. Esscence – Great chorus on title track.
7. West – Low down on list but then its more recent than above albums so maybe in time …
8. Little Honey – A bit uneven but has some good moments.
9. Ramblin – Got this recently, and have enjoyed hearing songs I didn’t know and getting a musical education from it.padchioParticipantOkay,as no one seems to know, I’m assuming Tom and Lu are pulling our collective legs here.
padchioParticipantI agree it was very flat. On the Cambridge Festival website there was a lot of negative comments so that was what made me think Lucinda picked up on that from the crowd and that affected her performance.
All in all, it’s a shame it was this concert that went out on TV here in the UK. One for the cheerleadersonly perhaps!
padchioParticipantThe latter, I hope, If you know what rumplestiltskin translates as.
As for her middle name, um, no idea. I’m guessing it might be an american-type middle name with its unusual spelling, so I’ll have to take a wild one.
How about Gennifer or Anjela?
padchioParticipantIf I guess correct do I get to keep her firstborn, like in Rumplestiltskin? 🙂
padchioParticipantHey, about time it was made official! No seriously, congratulations to Tom and Lu. from what I’ve seen and heard you two really do ‘make quite a pair’! May you have a long and happy life together.
padchioParticipantOn the BBC.co.uk website it states that there will be three half-hour shows from Cambridge, the first being Mon 14 Sept at 19.30 UK time on BBC 4. It will also be available on the BBCiplayer for seven days.
Hopefully this programme will include clips from Lu’s set. It might even include the moment she freaks out at the sight of the cameras!

Has anyone ever met her? I really want to. Do you think she would sign tickets and stuff after one of her shows?
I met her at the Manchester, UK gig. Waited outside near tour bus. Bear in mind this was over an hour after. It was worth it though as she was in good mood and in no great rush to get on. Just do it.
padchioParticipantThanks for the setlist, Paul. I could remember the tracks but not the order.
I agree about the all-seating venue affecting the show a little. It does mean that the audience can be subdued. Fortunately I think the gig took off when the band really hit its stride a third through, warming the crowd up. And great to here the slower numbers more interspersed than elsewhere on the tour.
Lucinda was in great voice, I felt. The band too seemed in good spirits. By the end everyone was on their feet and got back Lu and the band back for two encores. Is this usual, since I thought they only come back once usually and play Long Way…
It was my priviledge to meet Lu outside after the gig. Waited about hour and a half as the temperature dropped but was warmed up by her once she came out. She chatted extensively, including about wanting to do an album of little-heard of covers. Can’t wait! We even got to kiss her on the cheek – we were all guys waiting for her.
Did not get to speak to you, Paul, but I remeber the lass with the blonde hair. very distracting. Hello
to the Mackem and his wife (hope you got home safely), Henry and Rod. I enjoyed meeting other obsessives in the world of Lu. I was the guy in the red shirt.padchioParticipantI was thinking about going to the Sage, but the decided to go to Manchester instead. Maybe it was a good idea on reading some of the posts about the gig. However, the venue at Manchester is also seating and I’m too happy about sitting down all night – hopefully everyone will stand and get into the night.
As for the setlist. I’ll be happy if Lu plays a good mix of acoustic and rockier numbers (especially Side of the Road – please!
padchioParticipantI hope you get your tickets soon, SM.
I don’t know about anybody else, but i booked my ticket direct from the venue as I always try to do (i don’t really trust ticket sites). It came pretty promptly.
padchioParticipantDon’t object to your views, DavidinMaine, but what’s with the font colour? Black not good enough?
padchioParticipantThanks for that info, Paul. A bit too late/early for me, though.
padchioParticipantAre people who twitter called twits?
