I know what you mean, brother. Those are two of the songs I recall hitting replay on a LOT, when I first got ahold of them. In my car, by myself, which is the only time I can listen to Lu, because as I said before, the wife is a hater. Never mind my two tweenaged daughters, and the emo and dance rubbish they like.

I think she could tear up some “Pretty Paper,” and do Elvis proud on “Blue Christmas.”

Elvis Presley, mind, not Costello. Although I loved the duets with Elvis C., there is no need for him to help out on the Christmas album, and there is also no need for Lucinda to do a posthumous duet with Presley, ala Natalie/Nat King Cole. I still think those things are a little creepy. 😉

What a lucky person, to have just discovered Lucinda!

I remember when I first heard her and saw her, singing “Passionate Kisses” on Letterman. That led to me buying her older stuff, and then waiting unpatiently (sometimes for a long time) for her next releases. Also, buying bootlegs whenever I could find them, but that’s illegal, and I’m really sorry (except some of them are amazing!).

Btw, my wife really hates Lucinda. I think she’s jealous. 😉

I’ve been a huge Williams fan since I first heard “Passionate Kisses,” and I’ve tracked her career religiously ever since. I just got done watching the new ACL show, and I’ve read much of the commentary here on same. Here’s my two cents:

–Yes, she’s put on some weight. At 55, people do tend to do that. I’m sure everyone here is as twiggy as they were in high school, or after they finished their latest Jenny Craig cycle. Get over it, please.

–the lyric-sheets…I have to admit, it’s a little distracting. I’m not a musician myself, but I have a great memory for lyrics, and could sing most of her songs from memory myself. Really off-key, and awful, but I know the words. But, I could never write those words, or put them to music like she does, or sing them from the gut the way she does, that so often brings a tear to my eye. So, if it works for her, I can deal.

–Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the full ACL taping? This 30-minute set was painfully short!

–Love the band she played with, this time around. I’ve always loved it when she used a harder-edged sound, and these guys were making the guitars squeal in a way that warmed my heart. Which is another reason why I want more of this show.

I was out of town when she came through Detroit this year, and I can see I missed a really strong live ensemble. Drat!

Looking forward to whatever Lucinda comes up with next. Hope it’s not too long.
