“and why are you having children if you’re just going to dump them in daycare?”
So stellabluee.
Your saying that everyone on this forum whose children are in daycare for whatever
reason….are “dumping them”Thats a pretty strong statement about a lot of people whose situations you know
nothing about.Mike in CTParticipantDoes anyone really think Republicans/Democrats are all that different? For the most
part politicians pick there positions on subjects as a way to get themselves elected.
I would be willing to bet most of them would be willing to sell there soul to devil to
get elected as fast as I would to play like Jimmy Page.
As for looking to musicians for political advice….or any other advice for that matter,
(save for what to look for in a good home studio) they have as much sway over
me as the 20 year old girl who cuts my hair (not that there is anything wrong
with being a 20 year old girl or cutting hair). In my opinion if a musician wants to
turn there show into a political rally, they should promote it as such. Then at least
when your spending $100 for a pair of tickets (damn! those capitalists!)you dont
have to worry about having someones politics shoved down your throat when you
were expecting enjoyable night out listening to an artist whose livelihood you
are supporting. It all wreaks of celebrity environmentalist telling me I am evil
for driving a V8 while they live in a house whose bedroom is as big my whole house.Mike
Mike in CTParticipantMan, in my opinion Doug and Buick 6 just keep getting better and better.
Doug absolutely blows the doors off the joint every time I see him play.
I really appreciate how much effort he puts out for every show.
Lucinda and Doug (and all of us for that matter!) are lucky to have each other!Mike
Mike in CTParticipantWe were about 5 rows back in New Haven last night and the sound
was perfect. Loud enough so you knew you were at a concert, but not so
loud your ears rang after the show. Like you said, maybe they were not
set up for a smaller place,or something else was going on, but generally
the sound quality at Lu shows is great.Mike
Mike in CTParticipantI have really tried to look at this both ways. But for me it comes down to
this. Is Tom Overby ever going to admit a show, or a album was subpar?
If someone posts a negative comment is he ever going to admit it was a
good point? Of course not..I wouldn’t either if I was in his position. As far as I know, no one else who post’s on this forum is being paid to say positive or negative things in regard to Lucinda, they are just stating their opinion. With
Tom, it totally different. He is getting paid to promote Lucinda, so he is never
going to be objective when it comes to negative or unflattering comments. I think
the risk of alienating his clients most devoted fans outways any damage that could
be done by a few critical post’s.Mike
Mike in CTParticipantOk, (…..I guess not)
I am the only one who is a little taken aback that Lucinda’s manager feels
the need to make his opinion known on what people are posting on this
forum? I mean I could see if someone was being downright nasty the forum
moderator might say something…or delete a post if necessary, but if some
one is just giving their opinion they should not be worried Lucinda’s manager
is going to take them to task for it. If thats the case this forum should state “If your posts are not all positive and considered inline with that of Lucinda’s
management, expect to be raked over the coal’s”I say this with no ill feelings to Tom Overby. In fact it feels weired
even addressing him! When I post something positive on here I really
don’t expect to to hear back from Lucinda or her manager, it goes the
same way if wrote something considered negative. Im sure if I said something really stupid, my fellow forum members would let me know
about it.Just my 2 cents.
Looking forward to seeing Lu again at the Shubert
in New Haven in October.Mike
Mike in CTParticipantTim.
you have a point. They advertise the show as being free to kids under
12. so if you were parent you would assume the show would be kid friendly.
This is the promoters fault not Lucinda’s.Mike in CT
Mike in CTParticipantWell,
At the very least. every Lucinda show leaves you wanting more!
Anyway about the kids….maybe a place such as Lowell should advertise
that the show may not be suitable for kids…so at least parents would have a
heads up.Just my 2 cents

Mike in CTParticipantWow! What a crazy night! It seemed like it was going to be such a mellow night in Lowell! The weather was perfect, a lot of people chillin out on the lawn. The band was hanging out and talking to people between sets. ( I even had a picture taken with Doug!)
I thought Lu and and the band sounded great to start the show. Mostly slower tempo songs….but I was just waiting for Lu to unleash the band and get the place rocking.
Then “the incident” I still wonder weather the person who yelled “play some floyd” or whatever he said was trying to be a jerk…or if he said it because the band slipped a few Zeppelin licks into one of the songs just before that.
Well anyway.the wife and I are big Lu fans. She was totally sweet to us when we met after a show, but we both felt she went a little to far. Its ok to call someone out, but there were a lot of kids at the show and there was no need to drop mulitple f-bombs. Clearly 99% of the people there diiggin the show.
I think what bothered us the most was the the whole tone of the show changed after that. Lu stopped talking to the audience, she even pretty much sopped introducing the songs after that. You kind of got the feeling they were going to go through the motions and just get out of there.
Could have done without the kids running around the place like it was a playground…very distracting. Anyway. kind of a downer show for us, But Lu still is the only artist we will travel 150 miles to see!!!I Was wondering, does Lu ever start and stop songs when she is opening for Mellencamp…..or a big show in NY or LA?
It doesn’t seem Like a proper show if it does not happen at least once!

Mike in CTParticipantMy wife and I met Lucinda after a show in East Hampton MA. in 2006.
We went for a bite after the show, and decided to walk back to the theater
where she performed. Well as luck has it….there is Lu talking to fans out back.
Lucinda was very gracious, and took the time to talk to everyone there. My wife
And I were able to tell her how much her music means to us…and I was even able
to give her a peck on the cheek…(after asking permission of course!) After we were done
gushing over her and telling her how much we loved her, Lucinda turned to us and
said….in her glorious Louisiana drawl “yall are the cutest couple”
Our whole way home my wife and I kept saying to each other….”can you believe
Lucinda Williams called us a cute couple!!” lol The only thing that was disappointing
was that the picture we had taken with her did not come out, otherwise it would be poster
size in our living room! Last year we waited after a Lucinda show we did not get to talk
to her, but as her bus leaving, someone from the bus came out and handed my wife
and a couple other woman who were waiting a dozen Roses each, and
said Lucinda wanted them to have them. Not as good as meeting her….but still very cool! -
