wow. Which one, if either, is based on Birney Imes’ book of photographs? Maybe both are? A little birdie indicated to me that this Mississippian has given leave for his work to be, once again, used as cover art.
stoger, your little birdie was right on the $$$$.
In the end, here is what Lu really wanted to go with. These are the front and back covers. (The back here is for the vinyl version.)
The photos are by Birney Imes from his well known book “Juke Joint”. It is the same book that provided the cover for “Car Wheels On A Gravel Road”, as well as the photo that inspired the song “2 Kool 2 Be Forgotten” – so it makes a cool connection with Lucinda’s previous artwork.
Lucinda just loves Birney’s photography and really loved these two photos, especially once she saw it as a mocked up album cover; she really loved the way colors popped and thought idea that juke joints as places where the spirit meets the bone fit the title. – Lucinda mgmt.Won’t miss this in the record shop for its vibrant colours.

I You tubed Doug and agree with tonyg’s hair style comment, so here we go.

LWjettaParticipantI’m planning on going to see Jim in Buffalo , NY at the Sportsmen’s Tavern 7/17/14.
Jim will start off solo in the first set and will be joined by a local group the Stone Country Band for the 2nd set.
It’s a great dive venue with good food, friendly staff and a balcony.
I was there in Sep./12 to see Gurf Morlix so it will be a special treat to meet another musician connected with Lu from the earlier years.I remember how Jim managed to return from Bristol, TN to join Lu for several songs at 3rd & Lindsley in Nashville last fall. I still have the Lightning 100 recording on my laptop.
Should be a great evening for $25.00
Here are the details.

LWjettaParticipantA review from Lowell.
First off one of the many excellent photos.
Secondly, a quote from Lefty recently as written by Dave Barry.
âWe journalists make it a point to know very little about an extremely wide variety of topics; this is how we stay objective.â – – Dave BarryQuotes from the review follow.
Each member of the band got a chance to solo and all but David provided backing
vocals, but this show was all Lucinda. She told us sheâs releasing a new album later this year, and played a couple of songs from it. One is titled âCopenhagenâ and itâs beautiful. Itâs about being in Copenhagen when she got news that a friend had died suddenly, and the feelings she had being so far from home.
I did not know that her father is the poet Miller Williams. Lucinda related a story that she has been trying to set one of her fatherâs poems to music for many years, despite his feeling that poems and poems, songs are songs, and they are mutually exclusive. Lucinda was finally able to accomplish her goal, and the song is lovely â and it is a
song, Lu!Here’s the full article.

LWjettaParticipantNot much luck stoger in searching for info.
I did find lots of great photos for the Flynn Center in Burlington.
Photos by Nanci.
Scroll thru the photos and on the 5th line there is a guitarist to the left of Lu that I do not recognize. You can click on any photo for the big picture.http://photosbynanci.smugmug.com/Lucinda-Williams/Flynn-2014/
As for Boarding House Park in Lowell, MA nada found.
A far cry from her show there in July, 08 wherein many FF members and newspaper articles reported a bit of a Lucinda melt down when someone shouted out Pink Floyd requests.lwj
