I keep checking YouTube, but so far no uploads from the Macon show. What I wouldn’t give to relive a few choice moments! “Not My Cross to Bear” comes to mind, but really this was one of the best Lucinda shows I’ve ever seen, so to hit “replay” on any of it would be a treat.
I’ll also be keeping an eye out for more shows at the Cox Capitol. It’s an incredible and intimate venue, a welcome addition to central Georgia. Thanks for playing here, Lucinda!
Here’s the Rev. Brown’s song for you su_gar.

In the past couple of weeks Lu has been busy -I guess we just can’t give her a break 🙂
She did a wonderful duet with the legendary Jimmy Webb on his song Galveston. He is finishing up an album of duets. We just got the finished version and Jimmy was so thrilled with it he is saying it may be the single.
A few days after that she also sang harmony on a song for Blackie & The Rodeo Kings, which is her longtime friend Colin Linden’s side band.
And this past Saturday a film crew came to the house and filmed Lu for a documentary about legendary delta blues singer Honeyboy Edwards. He is 94 years old and is still touring -in fact he is playing Cozy’s Blues club in LA on 1/15 & 16. As you might imagine he has an amazing story-for example he was with Robert Johnson the night he was poisoned in 1938. Anyway, Lu talked about Honeyboy -but she also talked a lot about the blues which is a topic she loves to talk about.
In addition to Lu, the movie will also include Keith Richards, BB King and Billy Gibbons among others.
Here is a link to a clip of the movie— http://www.honeyboyfilm.comJust uploaded on You Tube The “Official” “New” Honeyboy documentary trailer.
No idea when it’s being released.
Lucinda is shown 2 0r 3 times speaking on the “Blues”Have a look.

LWjettaParticipantHere is a simply outstanding Blog/Review written by a poet on her trip to Macon to see Lu.
Entitled” “I don’t want nothin’ if I have to fake it”: On not meeting Lucinda Williams.
An excerpt”“This is really your first real concert? Like, really?”
“Really.”
“Honey, what have you been doing with your life?”
I looked at the woman’s t-shirt: pale blue with the word “blessed” printed over and over in one of those handwriting fonts. It’s a word I’ve often railed against, a Southernism which, to me, tends to smack of insincerity. It’s a word whose meaning has been transformed for me over the past few months. It’s the title of Lucinda Williams’ new album, and it’s nearly impossible to listen to the title track without realizing that “blessed” can be more than sincere: “We were blessed by the girl selling roses / Who showed us how to live / We were blessed by the neglected child / Who knew how to forgive.”
The best answer I had for her was the most honest: “I don’t know.” She shook her head, then leaned forward. “Honey,” she said, “This is going to completely change your life.”And so began my first real concert experience: Lucinda Williams playing at the Cox Capital Theater in Macon, Georgia. Earlier that day, I’d filled the cats’ bowls, bought a Diet Coke and a tank of gas, and driven the two hours across Georgia highways. I drove to the theater in a building storm, risking the rain to take surreptitious shots of the tour bus parked outside. I had no idea what to expect from a “real” concert, and certainly didn’t expect hard questions — or the transcendent experience which followed them, when Lucinda Williams performed.
Read on and enjoy her very creative writing along with some nice pics.

look out for video #5, a can’t-be-improved-upon performance of the song west.
and this is just the tip of the iceberg, believe me.
Very few videos of West seem to be available.
Here’s a great version from Toronto, ON during her 30th Anniversary tour in October ’09.
I was at the show and got autographs and a pic with Lu.

I can’t head south to Macon so I suppose the next best thing is to head south to WNKU studios tomorrow afternoon. I was invited to the “secret show” for being a volunteer at the studio. Stevarino, I doubt now I will go to Southgate House. Lefty, I will pass along your regards to Erika.
A special request Lafayette, for your studio visit this afternoon.
Can you bring along your trusty Kodak and possibly tape one of Erika’s new songs, that is if it’s ok with your favorite DJ ?Enjoy the performance.

LWjettaParticipantYup, I also missed seeing Sarah in Buffalo on July 1st-Canada Day holiday.
The cross border traffic was too much.
I see Sarah will be on the Cayamo boat cruise in 2012 along with Lucinda and many others.
I really like her voice, and it was fun seeing her playing percussion in one of her videos.lwj
p.s. Thanks, Tom for the above link.LWjettaParticipantBonus, Lafayette.
Amos comes to Canada as per e-mail received today announcing the “Live From SOHO” album.
Oct. 27/11 in Toronto at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.-Great venue-

LWjettaParticipantA very, very special video just for you Lefty.
Just imagine in your dreams attending this sold out concert from the Mercury Lounge in NYC last night.
Here we have our gal Erika wearing hot pants, accompanied by backup vocals from Heidi Johnson covering Bob’s “You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere.”The only downside is a couple of fans blocking the view from time to time.

And here is the review from Saturday’s sold out show at the Mercury Lounge.
The Acoustic Elegance of Heartless Bastards
July 25th, 2011Heartless Bastards – Mercury Lounge – July 23, 2011
“A bird shit on my head when I parked coming here. I hope that means it’ll be a really great show,” the brilliant Erika Wennerstrom shared with the crowd. Perhaps if birds shit on bands more often those bands would sound as good as Heartless Bastards did at Mercury Lounge on Saturday night. Known for playing much larger venues, the group, comprised of Wennerstrom (vocals-guitar), David Colvin (drums), Jesse Baugh (bass) and Mark Nathan (guitar), took the intimacy to a whole new level, performing an all-acoustic set. There is something really special about a show like this. Sure, electric rocks, but the simple elegance of acoustic brings music back to the basics. There are no gimmicks or glitz, just real, honest tunes.
Wennerstrom’s soulful voice is unlike any others. Hers is velvety and rich and the words she sings are beautiful, sad, vulnerable and empowering. It’s like she feels out each note as if discovering it for the first time. The quartet’s musicality was remarkable. Guitars twanged and the upright bass added a timeless allure. Talented singer Heidi Johnson, harmonizing sweetly with Wennerstrom, joined in on some of the group’s newer songs.
From “Could Be So Happy,” off the 2009 album The Mountain, to “Runnin,” from 2006’s All This Time, each melody was heartbreaking but also filled with hope. After many cries for “more Bastards!” the band returned to the stage and finished with the powerful ballad “The Mountain.” Heartless Bastards create the type of music that makes you thankful to be alive and to be able to feel love, loss and life. Those in the audience appeared grateful as they swayed and held onto one another. More than once, however, someone shouted, “I love you, little bastards,” reminding us all to lighten up and have fun. —Kristen Ferreira
