Riveting song but was there any doubt? Big shout out to twitter. Found this doing a Lu search. 😀

    Thanks Lafayette.
What a gem of a song, a full 9 minutes.
Crank up the volume on this one.
Love the duet segment near the end.

The website http://www.gruenemusicandwinefest.org/friday.html has new details for Lu’s October 7 show. Tickets on-sale September 6.
For only the band show after 9 PM: $40
    For the private show and dinner + the band show: $75 for general admission area;
for tables of 4 through 10 guests, $500 to $1500 per table.
See the table map, and the general admission zone on the website.

I reviewed a lot of the venues for Lucinda’s upcoming Fall 2011 concerts and have come to the conclusion that the Gruene Hall (pronounced Green) gig is perhaps on the top of the list if I could attend.
    1. It’s the oldest dance hall in the Lone Star State (since 1878).
    2. For 75 bucks you get a private Lu concert, a catered dinner, a chance to bid on one of Lu’s autographed guitars and a full concert after dinner.
    3. It’s all for a good fund raising cause-the United Way.

Now a little review of Lu’s past performances at Gruene Hall.
She appeared there with Patti Griffin on April 29, 2001 as part of her pre-Essence release tour.

Here’s an article from Texas Monthly about Tracie Ferguson the exclusive booking agent for Gruene.
It’s a great read including mentioning the ex Mayor of Gruene going to the Hall so much that they served him beer at only 10 cents, and a 2 hour telephone conversation with Lucinda and her laryngitis’.

And step inside Gruene Hall for a brief tour with Mary Jane Nalley the owner.

LWJ! Heads up!!! From Kathleen’s Facebook page:

Kathleen playing a short-ish and intimate show at the Dakota Tavern in Toronto this Sunday night, August 28th. Doors at 8pm. Show at 9. No advance tickets, first come first enter. Tickets are $20. Be there early if you want a spot in, the venue is small. Kathleen will be accompanied by her bandmates Gord Tough and Jim Bryson. They will be shirtless.

Sounds like a very cool gig. lwj…hope to hear a report about this one!

Thanks for the heads up on the Dakota.

It’s an 1&1/2 hour drive to downtown Toronto for a short-ish show. The Dakota’s capacity is 130 patrons.
I can just imagine me standing in line and being the 131st.
But as I reported on Aug. 7th, I’ve got tickets to see Kathleen for a long-ish outdoor concert at the Jackson Triggs winery on Sep. 3rd just 10 minutes drive from where I live in the Niagara region.
Been lucky enough to see Kathleen twice last year including meeting her + an autograph.
Kathleen has played the Dakota Tavern many times in the past.
Here’s a short clip from the Dakota last Aug. 3, 2010 singing “Mercury” from her Failer album with Justin Vernon (Bon Iver)-her new significant other.

Plus a great quality video of Kathleen from the Dakota Aug./10 song “Sister Golden Hair”

And Lafayette, remember I posted much earlier this year Amos Lee’s live set recorded at the Dakota .
    Just Amos, no audience.

    I “missed” this thread also.
tnt-you indeed have a “Rarity” of Lu’s. A live recording of Lake Charles one day before the release date of CWOAGR on June 30, 1998.
There were two sold out concerts at Tramps , June 29, 30, 1998.
David Mansfield and Jimmy Vaughan were sitting in at the 2nd one.
Can’t find any info on the first night.
Here is a review of the 2nd night entitled “Six Years in the Making, Songs Seek Perfection.

This is off topic for her upcoming show, but let’s re-visit Lucinda’s last appearance at Jannus Landing in 2004.
A really, really heart warming story about a little four year old girl meeting Lucinda in March 2004 in St. Petersburg.
Despite Lucinda’s loss of her mom a few days later, she poured out her heart for this little fan.
Simply shows how Blessed Lu is.
    It’s a great read.

    I’d definitely go with # 1 Marc.The Blues
    A little background here.
Lucinda’s 2nd night benefit concert in Chicago May 22/11 was called “Ballads and Blues” and Tom Overby had it professionally recorded (audio only). Perhaps someday we’ll get to hear it.

Here is a quote from Tom Overby from an earlier discussion:

by TOverby on Thu Dec 17, 2009 12:39 pm
She will almost definitely do a blues album someday, it is something she has been wanting to do for a long time–but it will not be this next record.

And since you mentioned “Happy Woman Blues” as a favorite of yours. ( Album was actually recorded in Houston, TX), let’s look at a very happy woman on stage with Joe Ely from the Houston International Festival earlier this year.
Song is (I believe) a Townes Van Zandt cover “White Freightliner Blues”

By the way a belated welcome to Lu’s friendly forum Marc.
Did you happen to catch any of her Swedish tour Oct./Nov 2007 ? Stockholm, Malmo and Gothenberg.

And, Lafayette, to quote moderator tntracy earlier this year “post of the year” also for your quick run down.
Just a superb read as stoger, tonyg & Lefty have attested.

Great of you to take the volunteer role at Farm Aid-I think you also do your bit at WNKU radio.
I also enjoy the volunteer bit. There is a farm near me that has weekend retreats for special needs kids. I love getting those kids up for a horsey ride or just tucking them in their tents at bed time.
I did not spot you in the crowd dancing on the broadcasts. I stayed tuned “most” of the time hoping to see you wearing a cheap straw cowboy hat a la Farm Aid 25 when Amos was on.

What did you think of the brand new Livestrong Park soccer venue ?
I’m glad you mentioned Vermont is lobbying again to snag Farm Aid. Quite driveable for me.
You and your DH must have had a looong drive from Cinci to KS. Besides checking your GPS what music did you have going ?
I’m on target to see JM in Hamilton, ON this fall.

Again, thanks for the great report.

I thought the live feed quality was excellent and caught Jamey Johnson ( with his guitar sporting Neil Young’s signature), Jason Mraz, etc. right to the end of the concert.

I especially liked the “Blasts from the Past” broadcast including:
    Nanci Griffith & James McMurty-1990
    B B King-1985
    Carl Perkins-1985.

As usual, Dave M., JM, Willie and NEIL were great.
