Thanks for the heads-up, D.A. Hoping to see them Friday night in NYC! LWj: Toronto report anticipated…
No report on Toronto Lefty. My plans changed last Thurs. when my nephew and his wife called to invite me to their cottage up North for the long weekend in Ontario-a new stat. holiday Monday called “Family Day”
Had a great time X country skiing and snowmobiling. Ok, I sure wanted to see Erika again( 4th time) but I don’t mind the $18.00 ticket purchase loss. I listened to “Arrow” on my way home this morning and it now is surpassing “The Mountain” CD as my new favorite.Enjoy the HB’s in NYC if you make it and isn’t that Lafayette gal something else getting an autographed CD to send to you.
She sure has NEIL’s Heart of Gold as she also gave me an autographed CD of one of her favorite singers when I met her in Windsor for a JM gig.lwj

A day less 20 hours short. Last night, I received an email in my inbox around 8:00 p.m. for an exclusive invite (20 listeners) to an In Studio at WNKU for the HB. Apparently, I missed out as, per the instructions, I would receive a return email with directions to the studio if my request made it into queue. No confirmation email as I write. Looks like Shake It Records will be calling my name, for sure.
To review – an In Studio at WNKU, an in store at Shake It Records, and a show at the Madison Theater all on February 17. Erika and company will be working for the money on a Friday in Cincinnati.
I would bet the WNKU appearance will be broadcast – catch it at http://www.wnku.org at 11:00 a.m. EST
Lafayette, I’m sure you can con or beg John Patrick to get you into the WNKU appearance.
Boy, if you get to see Erika and the HB’s THREE times in a single day, that would be a Marathon( as in the first cut on the new album)
Gotta love the new album. Have you noticed every cut on Arrow is 4 minutes or longer all the way up to “Down in the Canyon” at 7:31 (almost as long as Lu’s “Rarity”)I just got the HB’s new e-mail and their tour runs almost daily from now to May 31st.They have been getting great crowds including selling out (1,500 capacity) at First Avenue Minneapolis.
So, let’s watch one of my favorite songs from the “Mountain” “Sway” @ First Avenue from last Friday. Jesse gets the crowd started with his clapping.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5LuVFUBkR8Also tune in for this:
Next Wednesday, the 22nd appearing on Letterman.Enjoy your Friday and thanks for letting me know about the possible radio broadcast.

LWjettaParticipantMy belated report on Kathleen at the Studio in Hamilton, ON last Friday.
First of all, Congratulations to her new beau Justin(Bon Iver) for bringing home 2 Grammys.
The pics of Kathleen in the audience yesterday at the awards showed a more cheerful side to her as compared to Hamilton for a few brief moments.Kathleen got choked up a bit when she mentioned to the crowd her return to Hamilton where she and her ex(Colin Cripps) shared a house for several years. She dedicated “House Full of Empty Rooms” to Colin.
Things livened up with her tunes from Voyageur. I especially liked “Sidecar” and from her first album”Failer” the song “12 Bellevue and of course “Six O’Clock News”
A lot of people in the crowd were surprised that it was standing room only as the usual configuration for the venue are tables and chairs.
Heck it didn’t bother me, why Lefty and I stood for 4 hours at Lu’s gig in Buffalo last November.
Here’s the set list as best as I can decipher from my rough notes.Empty Threat
Chameleon
Asking For Flowers
Pink Champagne
Goodnight California
In State
Mint
Hockey Skates
House Full of Empty Rooms
Going To Hell
Sidecar
Back To Me
Soft Place
12 Bellevue
Change The Sheets
Six O’Clock News
September Girls (a cover?)
Our Town (an Iris deMent cover)
Hannah Georgas seems to be the perfect fit for Kathleen’s opener and I enjoyed her set.
All in all a great concert in a packed house with excellent acoustics and of course, Kathleen’s usual banter including telling a particularly talkative fan to settle the f*** up.It was a bit of a nasty drive home with blowing snow but I did not require “chaining up” my car as stoger had to do on his way to Lake Tahoe to see Lucinda.
lwj
p.s. to tntracy. Did you catch her show in Atlanta ?
LWjettaParticipantAnd the winner is Levon Helm.
I along with stoger and paul_from_losangeles were pleased to enjoy seeing Levon and Lu on stage in Toronto last March.lwj

Lucinda Williams on Cayamo 2012
Lucinda Williams seemed to take a while to get accustomed to playing on a cruise ship, with her shows getting stronger throughout the week on Cayamo. She acknowledged her growing comfort level at the outset of her third and final show, saying it takes a while to get your bearings on board and that she was excited to play the 6 p.m. show because “people are fresher.”
She then launched into an excellent set, opening with “Car Wheels on a Gravel Road.” Highlights included “Changed the Locks, “Still I Long For Your Kiss” and “Get Right With God,” but Lucinda seemed most tickled by her hard-rocking “Honey Bee.” “That’ll start your night out right,” she said.
The encore was the Buffalo Springfield classic, “For What It’s Worth,” written by Stephen Stills. This was a fun and vibrant take, and although the song was inspired by police clashing with teens on the Sunset Strip, it still has resonance.
“This song was written in the ’60s, but it’s still very relevant today,” Lucinda said.lwj
LWjettaParticipantLucky you Lafayette for the in store freebie in Cincy.( You also had another unique opportunity to see Erika and the HB’s last year at your favorite radio station.)
Probably the ideal venue to purchase “Arrow” and snag an autograph or two from the band.lwj
p.s. Also love the pic of Erika behind the wheel.( wonder if that’s their high mileage van )
I notice the HB’s Facebook wall has been posting a lot of great pictures lately.LWjettaParticipantHere’s No Depression’s Wednesday report.
The blogger attended his first ever Lu live concert and reported the following:“At 10 we were back in the main theatre with another packed house watching Lucinda Williams. She sounded great, though I’d have to say that after watching Buddy Miller’s interactions with the other musicians and the crowd, she seemed less the gracious star and bit more of the diva. Still, it was our first time to see her live and it was great to hear her do Real Live Bleeding Fingers, Drunken Angel, Crescent City, Change The Locks, Joy and Get Right With God performed live. Buddy Miller, Jim Lauderdale and Rhett Miller made appearances, too, though Miller’s appearance was a bit strange at first because she called him out one song early. He’s a good sport, so he grabbed a tambourine and danced around a bit as she did Joy while waiting for Get Right, the song he was supposed to sing backup on.”

There have been no dispatches from the deep blue sea regarding the cruise that got underway Sunday. If anyone wants to post news, scuttlebutt, or the like let’s do so here. There is a Facebook page for the cruise but it is also void of any tidbits. I don’t know when Lu is playing but the line up on this ship is fantastic; James McMurtry, Lyle Lovett, John Hiatt, Buddy Miller, and more and more.
One thing I do know: Blake couldn’t make it, but I don’t know why. Doug is on board, the ship and the band.
Maybe Tom will throw us a few tidbits. Not sure what the internet situation is out there.
Gosh, tonyg you seem to have found some interesting info about no Blake and yes Doug.. Maybe you should be called InsideJob2 😆
Maybe Doug and Liz are on their honeymoon cruise.
Anyway, here is some “scuttlebutt” on Monday’s activities from No Depression.

Rumor has it that Butch did a belly flop off the bow earlier today.[attachment=0:4a7fcrig]Norwegian Pearl webcam.jpg[/attachment:4a7fcrig]
