LWjettaParticipantGreat post on Radio Silence Lefty. Thanks.
Well, tonight I’ll be listening only to Bob at the boat dock in Queenston, ON directly across the Niagara River in Lewiston, NY at Artpark.(ten minutes from my home)
The mainsage open air theatre has a capacity of 2,500 inside and an additional 2,000 on the lawn.
Tickets for the lawn were only $40.00 and the whole event sold out so fast in mid-July that I was too late.
The sound carrys extremely well across the river so it should be a nice tailgate party.
Saw my first Lu gig there for free back in ’07.
Tickets for Bob in Toronto in Nov. go on sale in a few days but are up to $140.00

LWjettaParticipantMark Bates new album “Night Songs” has a song entitled “Lucinda”
Some background first.MARK BATES CELEBRATES RELEASE OF NIGHT SONGS WITH NIGHT TO REMEMBER AT HOTEL CAFE
Members of Lucinda Williams’ Band Back up Bates/Lucinda Shows UpLos Angeles, CA—At just 24 years of age, singer/songwriter Mark Bates is already reaching what could be construed as the pinnacle of his career—but more likely it’s just the beginning. Last Friday, Bates released his sophomore album, Night Songs (street date June 12), on a special night at Hotel Café.
This album has taken on a special meaning for Bates, who had the opportunity to work with Eric Liljestrand, who has won a Grammy Award as engineer/mixer, and was co-producer of the Lucinda Williams albums, Blessed and Little Honey. But that also opened the door for members of Lucinda’s band to back up Bates for the release party—bassist David Sutton and drummer Butch Norton. Liljestrand also joined the band on lead guitar and backing vocals, as did pedal steel player Eric Heywood (Ray LaMontagne).
Why is this significant? Not only does Mark have a song on the album called “Lucinda,” but she was also in the audience last Friday.
“I was humbled to be playing with some of my favorite musicians,” said Bates. “Lucinda came out. I got to introduce her to my mom, who cried. It was a way cool evening that I’m still riding high from.”
But don’t just take his word for it. Liljestrand, who played lead guitar and sang backups on Friday evening, knows that Bates is a special talent as well and he sensed something that night.
“I always enjoy playing a show, but this felt different,” said Liljestrand. “It felt like we were playing hit songs. People were singing along, and it was all so effortless. Every time I looked over at one of the other players, we shared a smile. It was one of those nights where you remember why you do what you do.”

LWjettaParticipantHey Lafayette;
Great to see that Lu and JM will be at the special Guthrie show.
Just to let you know it’s too looooong a drive to Hershey, PA for this year’s Farm Aid but I’m going to the Canadian equivalent.
An outdoor festival next Saturday, Sept. 1st in Dundas, Ontario called “Greenbelt Harvest Picnic” to support local farmers.(It’s about an hour’s drive for me.)
The lineup is great including: Emmylou Harris, Daniel Lanois, Feist and many others. Here’s the scoop.

LWjettaParticipantThe Aspen Times reviewers opening paragraph.
ASPEN — I made a mighty effort to get an interview with Lucinda Williams in advance of her appearance Wednesday night at Belly Up Aspen. Three confirmed times, however, didn’t result in actually having a conversation with the singer-songwriter. (Though Williams, bless her, did leave a voice mail on my cell phone, which will never be deleted, at least not intentionally: “I’m sorry about the mix-up with everything. I jes’ been burning the candle out here on the road, slept in today.”)

LWjettaParticipantJust a one liner report on Lucinda last night. I didn’t realize everything was broadcast live on Radio Philly.
“Lucinda Williams took the stage as the lone female of the night but didn’t back down. Her powerful songwriting and roots rock arrangements poured out onto the hill.”

Good work Bob, Nancy, and our intrepid Tony. Hope you are back in the sun safely. That lyric book debacle sounds close to the “Copenhagen” proceedings a few shows back, though she knows “Righteously” pretty through and through I would imagine.
Just had the best omen imaginable upon exiting my Amtrak train at Penn Station, but will start a stream with that soon.
The band intros, lyric book debacle and Changed the Locks video to enjoy.
