This is turning out to be another trivia question. i.e. Lu’s middle name of Gayl.
Anyway, I signed on to You Tube as lwjetta to ask the question as to the origin. Maybe we will get the answer from the person who uploaded the song.

    Cheers.

Road Tripp’n with the Ice Cream Man.

Following a give away of ice cream by the man at the Outside Lands music festival ( first 3 minutes of the video ) are Erika and the HB’s in a nice version of “So Quiet” complete with violin accompanyment.

This is a high quality recording and is more or less forum filler until Lafayette reports on Lu’s upcoming appearance at the Janis Joplin tribute concert.

We are getting closer to finishing the deal for the reissue of the LW cd. We are going to try to have it out by the end of Oct. Right now it is planned to be a 3 disc set:
DISC 1–Remixed and remastered version of the original album from the original masters which were missing until about a year ago. The improved sound quality is a major improvement.
DISC 2–A recently discovered 1989 live recording from LW tour. Recorded for a radio show in the Netherlands, the sound and performance are terrific. Will also include the 6 bonus tracks for the 92 reissue.
DISC 3–A dvd of the LA El Rey performance from the 2007 album shows. Full five camera shoot and 5.1 sound. Edited by the guy who does most of the videos for the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame. Of course everything could change but i am reasonably confident that we will get it out in Oct/Nov.

Regarding Disc 3 I hope “Still I long for your Kiss” is one selection. Shelby Lynne clowning around with Lu.
    Watch and enjoy

It’s not a headlining show, but it looks like there is still an opportunity for a little “Lu fix” before the end of the year. Lu is set to appear in Cleveland, OH on Nov. 14th at a Janis Joplin Tribute concert at PlayhouseSquare’s State Theatre.

Two little tid bits of info re Janis.

    1. The covers on the 5 disc El Rey set show Lu wearing a Janis Joplin shirt.

    2. Just for fun I typed in Janis joplin on You Tube. Amazing videos, including Woodstock from 1969.

On that note, can anyone tell me which particular Live LA CD and track has the story about the ‘who do I have **** to get a fan’ . It cracks me up but I can’t find the track now!

The answer to today’s trivia question is Track # 12 from Sweet Old World. El Ray 09/09/07.

How long will we have to wait after St. Louis tonight for another opportunity like this?
Any ideas from the friendly forum what’s in store for 2010?

    Regards.

Yes, stoger, “Mama You Sweet” (especially!) and “Fancy Funeral” would be amazing, I forgot their inclusion. I actually can relate to “Are You Alright” as well, especially the line “Are you sleeping through the night,” even though it was written about her brother, that line brings it all home for me.

I first heard “Mama You Sweet” on the World Cafe interview. Sweet. Bittersweet, really.

Here you go for a memory or two- a rebroadcast from NPR (World Cafe)with “Mama You Sweet” near the end .-Such a great site to search.

Following is the podcast from Erika’s On Air at WNKU. I volunteered today at the studio, answering phones during the semi-annual pledge drive. John Patrick, the music host that interviewed Erika, popped his head in and told me Erika barely remembers talking to me at Lu’s reception. She told him she was pretty drunk (but she does remember talking to someone from Cincy, it was just sketchy 😮 ). I laughed and told him I wasn’t quite in the shape she was in, however, if she had seen me later in the night, I was sort of drunk, too. 😆 And, on a Lu sidenote, two other volunteers (there were only 4 of us) piped up and told me they saw Lu in 2003 at the Tall Stacks Festival in Cincinnati and she put on a great great show. I thought that was cool, so of course, we talked about Lu.

Thanks Lafayette -I listened to the original podcast but still have not put up my MasterCard to make a pledge to WNKU public radio. Must do this.
I got Erika’s and the band’s autographs on August 3rd, 2009 at the Kool Haus in Toronto.
Got tickets to see them again at the Kool Haus on November 11,2009, so must get her picture like I did with Lu on Sat. night Oct. 11, 2009 in Toronto to complete my souvenir collection of my favorite two great gals in the biz.

Lu’s merch lady extraordinaire, Susannah, debuted two new t-shirt designs at the first NYC show commemorating the 30th Anniversary Tour. I noticed that they are not as of yet listed in the “Store” at https://www.lucindawilliams.com, so I thought I’d post up what one of the two designs being offered looks like (I took these pictures to e-mail Friendly Forum member bigsubi in Spain so he would know what the shirts I picked up for him looked like).

    Here is the front:

    And, here is the back:

The folk art design on the front has been used before on an old gig poster. I have it in my collection (but mine is red. IIRC, there were also orange & blue ones printed).

The other design, if memory serves, is the same on back, with an early B&W photo of Lu on the front…

Here is the front from my T-shirt bought on Saturday 10/10/2009 in Toronto

I’m going to do my best to remember the set list but the show was fantastic. The band and Lu were in great spirits, the playing was fantastic and the sound was top notch. Not a single restart.

I can attest 100% to the accuracy of Ripley’s set list as I am the proud owner of the original which a stage hand gave me after the show and now is autographed by LU and the band. Also ,Ripley and I were fortunate enough to have our photos taken with Lu by the tour bus. I will try to post these plus a few from the show when I figure out how.
The writer that tntracy referred to was very complete in her description of the event.

I can only add two or three more tidbits.
Got Lu’s anniversary T-shirt from Susannah at the discounted price ( She actually remembered me from “Ra-Cha-Cha” last March)-Lu had not actually seen it before when we were chatting by the bus. On the front, the photo of her looks to be from the 1989 era a la ACL DVD.
The back of the shirt for those who haven’t seen it yet is as follows:

All I need is a full house and rock’n’roll band.

    LUCINDA WILLIAMS
The “Honey, where are we going on our honeymoon?”
    30th Anniversary Tour

It was a pleasure to meet the driver of the metal firecracker while we waited for Lu to come outside. His name is English.
Also got to meet Tom Overby-a real down to earth person.
He said to me -You must be lwjetta. He got the hint because he talked with Susannah after the show.

The actual show was flawless with virtually no referral to the song lists. Really enjoyed Chet’s harmonica and David’s bass plus their back-up singing.
