lwj…IThe beginning of that U.S. road trip?

I can easily change my itinerary to go to Nashville, but I bet the ticket prices will be unreal.
I’ve only seen NEIL live once-Toronto in December, 2008 for $145.00 + fees. It was worth it.(20,000 seat venue sold out)
As far as the Ryman goes , if you haven’t already, buy NEIL’S Heart of Gold 2 disc DVD from 2006 filmed there. It features Emmylou Harris and on the bonus disc #2 you can see NEIL’s performance from 1971 on the Johnny Cash Show.

I’ve got my car gassed up for a short “road trip” tonight to see one of my Top 5-Serena Ryder.
I think I would scrub Austin on my tentative itinerary because of the distance.

Funny Tom, I was starting to wonder what Buick 6 might be up to.
Now I know what two of them are doing.
When? Lucinda hits the road again, Butch should bring along this very unique percussion set on stage (sans la toilette and cat food)
So I said I know two of them i.e. Butch and David have been busy it appears.
Here is a great live recording from Dec.5, 2009 with Keyrei singing “I’m Yours” from the Korean Cultural Centre in LA accompanied by Butch and David.
She has such a great voice, have a listen.

So what are the other two up to/ Eric and Chet?

Actually, Susan Tedeschi has opened for Lucinda.

For those anywhere close to Masontown, WV on July 8-11, 2010, you can catch Susan at the All Good Music Festival and Campout.

As an avid camper, I’ve been to a few of these festivals under the tent and have really enjoyed them. Very friendly, family-oriented events.

    Polls close this Friday.
    Dismal voter turn-out so far.
12 votes out of 2,077 Forum members. That’s a little more than 1/2 of 1%

But if the trend continues, we already know what the fans want first.

Woodsongs had fallen off my radar, but thanks to your enthusiasm, it’s on!

I’m still a bit enthusiastic about the show simply because it featured 3 of my current Top 5 artists-namely Kathleen Edwards, Serena Ryder and Anne McCue. ( My other 2 are Lu and Arcade Fire )

Check this out. Each show is an hour long, typically featuring 2 artists / bands along with the host, Michael Jonathan, singing a song or two. Quite frankly, Michael seems to be a little full of himself, just a little, so keep that in mind, however, I love the show format and the spirit of the show

I agree about the host-too rehearsed and almost phony.
Road trips can change. For example “What If” Lucinda gets her new album out by the summer and hits the road?

No GPS for me, my car has a compass and I prefer to pull over to the side of the road and pull out an old fashioned road map.
Thanks for your kind invite to WNKU.

P.S. In regards to your road trips, lwj, IF you are seriously considering visiting Lexington, you won’t be disappointed with the surrounding area, especially if you drive US 27 along the white fence lines and horse farms.

The Woodsongs shows tape on Monday nights, and the ticket price is typically $20 (5 years ago the price was $10, but I digress). The theater is very cool as you would expect, the type of ambiance Lu likes in theaters (but not with the seating).

If you ever want to visit, let me know, if I’m available, Lexington is less than 2 hours south of where I live.

Thanks so much Lafayette for your thoughts. I know the “Friendly Forum” must have had a ball last September at the First Avenue Wedding. It seems as if I already know a lot of the posters on the Forum.

Here’s what I could do hypothetically speaking, for my Summer of 2010 road trip.

    1. Meet you in West Chester, help you finish the painting/wallpaper, go over for a tour of the WNKU Public Radio facilities.
    2. Proceed South for a Monday night gig in the Kentucky Theatre for the Woodsongs Radio Hour.
    3. Proceed almost due South to Atlanta, bring the bottle of Niagara, Ontario vino to Tntracy that I promised from the Kathleen Edwards thread ( although he never replied to my question. red or white wine )
    4. Have tntracy point me to Eddie’s Attic in Decatour for another gig.
    5. Swing way out West to Austin, attend a Cactus Club gig before the University closes the place.
    6. Head South-East to Crescent City, attend another gig at the HOB and enjoy a po’boy.
    7. Head East again and than South to Miami / Ft. Lauderdale and visit with friends. I lived there in the late ’90’s for a few years.
    8. North, back to Canada.
Should I be positive and go to my friendly CAA office ( same as the AAA) and get a trip Tik planning guide?
Kind of a dream trip for 2010 don’t you think?

    Thanks for posting Rosa,
I would describe these 3 Swedish blonds almost like the Dixie Chicks in their performances. Very nice.

I see they just finished opening for Rosanne Cash in Sweden.
Here is one especially good You Tube of their song from their new album “What If”

Also on You Tube there is one of them covering our gal Lucinda “Can’t Let Go”, but the audio isn’t the best.

I’m sure Lu has to be honored by so many artists covering her songs over the years.

Again, not re: Anne’s new CD , but her performance on Woodsongs Radio Hour that Lafayette introduced us to.
The show from the “Old Time Radio Hour” in Lexington, KY is # 414 in their archives.

Here is the set list and some comments.
    1. “As the Crow Flies” from her album Koala Motel in which Lucinda took part. There is maybe a 3 minute electric guitar riff by Anne in this one. Fantastic!
    2. “Bakersfield to Saigon” on acoustic guitar followed by Anne talking about her one year sojurn in Saigon, Viet Nam playing almost nightly.
    Second Set
A big surprise, Lucinda makes an announcement (audio only as she wasn’t present)-“Welcome back to Woodsongs Radio Hour, etc,”) before Anne continues.
    3. “Hangman” from her album Roll. This time Anne is playing on a Lap Steel ( not to be confused with a Pedal Steel) and again a long riff by her.
The first singer on the program is pretty good too-Charlie Musselwhite.
Again, log on to the archives-select show # 414 and watch with Windows Media Player.
One problem with this is you can’t fast forward to Annes performance for a while, but be patient.
This is the best performance I’ve seen of Anne, hence my detailed intro.
I can’t wait to see her live in August here in Canada-eh
Here is the link again thanks to Lafayette.

The earlier version of “Out Of Touch” on the Deluxe Edition of CWOAGR (disc 1, track 15) might be to what he is referring. It is indeed very, very different – much slower tempo & more of a country vibe than a rock / blues one…

Interesting Tom considering the time difference between CWOAGR, Essence and this Austin Chronicle article.

    Here is a quote.
LW: It was written before Car Wheels. I had some of the lyrics as far back as 10 years ago. Like I first wrote “Out of Touch” in 1981 when I moved back to Austin with Clyde. I have it on an old demo tape that far back. It went through all these different incarnations and rewrites. I was almost going to put it on Car Wheels, but I’m glad I didn’t.
AC: When I first heard “Out of Touch,” I interpreted it as a soundtrack for meeting an old love. Another reviewer said it was about Gurf Morlix.
LW: I wasn’t thinking about the ex-lover thing as much as the plight of the human condition. That awkwardness, being out of touch. The ones I wrote about Gurf were “Reason to Cry” and “Broken Butterflies.” That anger.

Here is the full article from the Chronicle Aug.10/2001 entitled “Spit Out the Seeds” ( Another good read on Lucinda, then again, aren’t they all? )

So, Tom which version do you prefer?

In the spirit of lwj and his appreciation of all things video and audio, I too, want to share a phenomenal website, Woodsongs Radio Hour.

Phenomental is such an understatement. It’s a treasure chest of Folk and Americana music. Thanks Lafayette.
I often take road trips and have never been to Kentucky. So I’d love to snag a ticket at the historic Kentucky Theatre in Lexington to catch the Old Time Radio Hour.
The thing can be heard world wide on over 400 FM and internet stations and watched via podcasts.
Top quality hosted by Michael Johnathon and is much like PBS-member supported.

Naturally I scrolled thru their archives and one of my top 5 artists popped out. Kathleen Edwards.
For tntracy and other Kathleen fans, I’ve posted a link under her title in this Forum.

Even though we are now on Daylight Savings Time and I’m “semi-retired”, how am I going to cover all this music?

    From her Failer CD
One more song the radio won’t like, Hockey Skates and 6’Oclock News
All with a great interview section from the Kentucky Theatre in Lexington.
    An excellent video worth watching.

Tntracy posted under Lu General a great read from the Huffington Press entitled “Revealing New Interview w/Lu” on March 15th wherein you can find the link.

The same article was almost immediately followed by this article “Serena Ryder to spend Spring 2010 on the road”
It also is a great read on her bio and the many accolades.
The article outlines her tour schedule as well. Have a read.
I’m going to see Serena perform next week here in Ontario for the 3rd time.

And, just for those in the Atlanta area ( i.e. tntracy & Drunken Angel ) spend 12 bucks plus $2.98 in Ticket Alternative fees and see her in mid-town Atlanta at Smith’s Olde Bar on April 27th.
    http://www.smithsoldebar.com/events/
I guarantee you are in for a good show.
