Hey Lafayette;
Seems to be one place Lu played.
“Quote”
In ’72, ’73 I had a gig in New Orleans. One summer, I was down there, and I got offered this little gig playing for tips at this little place on Bourbon Street. It was a coffee shop–a bar, called Andy. Each person had a shift and you’d sit on a stool. But it was a big deal for me because it was a regular gig. That was probably the biggest turning point in my career.
End “Quote”

At about the 32 minute part of this interview from American Routes Radio based in New Orleans, you can hear Lucinda elaborate on “Andy’s Bar”
Nice hour long radio music / interview with Lu interspersed with songs from some of Lucinda’s favorite artists.
I love the words in “Six Blocks Away”
I did a fast search in this Forum and didn’t see a previous posting from Routes Radio.
Kind of a neat web site with what looks like an old AM radio dial.-Move the station marker to fast forward song selections.
Listen to and enjoy Hour 1.

p.s. 1.-No need to dust off your old Lu CD’s. Well more than a dozen of her “oldie”song clips are played on this show.
p.s. 2.-Happy Easter everyone

More Lu Nostalgia, this time with her ex beau Richard “Hombre” Price.
From Richard’s web site there are many classic photos to view.
Here is one of them.
Hayseed, Lu and Richard performing “God Shaped Hole” from Hayseed’s album “Melic” in which Lu sang a couple of duets with Hayseed. Photo was shot at the Broken Spoke in Austin SXSW 1999.Hayseed Lu and Hombre.jpg[/attachment:1h0k3yn0]

OK, so this page is about sharing emerging ideas and exciting songwriters that are friends of or could be friends of LWs. So, it has been known that I have brought many such artists to the forum that would otherwise not have made it to these pages,

David, I for one can’t discount this guy. Since I’ve joined Lu’s Forum I have learned so much about other musicians and also emptied my wallet on CD’s , live concerts etc.
Currently, one of my Top 5 ( Lucinda still dominates the pack ) is Arcade Fire.
I was surprised at David Byrne’s connection with them. And being a Canadian, I again was surprised David B. lived in Canada for a while before Baltimore. The Arcade Fire Band is more like a mini orchestra with violins, etc. , again like some of David B’s concerts.
See this article from “Daily Refill “complete with a video and photos from Irving Plaza NYC Feb./05
Later in the year Arcade Fire opened for David B. at the Hollywood Bowl.

Also David Byrne’s connection links to another active poster on this Forum-i.e. Lafayette who lists John Mellencamp as her # 1 in the Top 5.

Here we see David Byrne many years ago interviewing John M. on Sessions.

So isn’t it relevant how things on this Forum fit nicely together?

Yup. Anne is rapidly moving up on my Top 5 list. I’ll get to see her in August in Canada as I reported earlier.

Here is an excellent and lengthy interview with Anne from Pure Music. ( never heard of this web site before-it’s great )
Some very nice photos of Anne and one of Lucinda.
At the very end of the interview you can watch two clips of Anne performing at the Mercy Lounge where you went to see Amos the other night.
Once you have read this interview, go back to the very first paragraph and click on we interviewed her and another long interview comes up with Anne going into detail about meeting Lu as well as her year in Viet Nam.

By the way, did you snag any NEIL tickets the next day?

Just a post to whet your appetite until Anne’s new CD comes out.
This record called “Ballad of an Outlaw Woman” was released just at the time Anne toured with Lucinda.
This is a review which relates to where Lucinda met Anne-A bar called “The Basement” in Nashville.
Quote
This review is from: Live: Ballad Of An Outlaw Woman (Audio CD) Available at Amazon
The liner notes relate Anne played her first Nashville show in a bar called The Basement for 10 people, one of whom was Lucinda Williams who asked Anne to go on tour with her. This set is stripped down live with just Anne & guitar. The opener “Ballad of an Outlaw Woman” haunts, “To keep yourself alive, Got to hide what you feel inside.” “My One & Only” twists with an ache and longing, just Anne & guitar, “I said goodbye to Joey & James.” The track also appears on her CD Amazing Ordinary Things. Anne churns up a storm on Jimi Hendrix’s “Voodoo Chile” that appeared on his Electric Ladyland album. Anne dedicates “Empty Bed Blues,” a Bessie Smith blues track, to Lucinda and then plays a mean slide, “I woke up this morning with an awful aching head; My new man gone & left me, just a woman in an empty bed.” “Since I first saw your face, I’ve been lost without a trace,” Anne wails on the acoustic “Fitzroy Blues.” This is a fine set by one of Australia’s finest imports.End Quote
Enjoy!Anne McCue Outlaw Woman.jpg[/attachment:7slp3qn0]

And to complete this post watch Anne from May, 2009 at The Basement during “Crazy Bitch Night” singing “Rock and Roll Outlaw”

P.S. Here is a 7 and 1/2 minute video again from The Basement last year featuring a new song from the upcoming CD. Anne says it’s a song about desire. I’m guessing from listening that the song is called “Hey Hey Won’t You Come Out And Play” Nice solo of Anne’s guitar work at the end.

And here is part of a quote from Elvis C. on Dr. John
Quote
The next morning, I got a thank you note from Alex Call – Clover’s
lead singer and therefore like his harmonica-playing colleague, Huey
Lewis, unemployed on my album. Alex is a resident in Nashville and had
heard overnight about us playing two of his songs.

Yesterday afternoon is was Alex who wrote to me to let me know of
Johnny’s passing.

And so the calls went back and forward between other friends and
colleagues; Jim Lauderdale, Lucinda Williams and after flying home
from New York to Vancouver, I placed a call to Nick Lowe.

It seems our “Friends?” over at Ticket Master/Live Nation are now trying to disguise their fees ( i.e. convenience fees etc.)
This is for the upcoming Eagles / Dixie Chicks Tour.

The Eagles, Dixie Chicks and Keith Urban* will be touring together for the first time when they hit the road on June 8th for a North American stadium concert tour. Tour dates and lineup is listed below and un the tour section. The Eagles – Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit – will perform hits from their more than 35-year career, such as “Hotel California,” “Desperado,” “Life In The Fast Lane,” “Lyin’ Eyes,” “Take It To The Limit,” “One Of These Nights,” “Heartache Tonight,” and more. The Dixie Chicks – Martie Maguire, Emily Robison and lead singer Natalie Maines – will hit the stage for the first time in four years, performing songs from all four of their albums including smash hits, “Wide Open Spaces,” “Goodbye Earl,” and “Not Ready to Make Nice.” Urban’s career has produced some of the industry’s best known and most loved songs – 11 #1s. “Days Go By,” “Sweet Thing,” Who Wouldn’t Wanna Be Me,” “You’ll Think of Me,” “Better Life,” as well as Billboard’s Country Song of the Decade, “Somebody Like You,” will highlight Urban’s performance. American Express® Cardmembers will have early access to tickets beginning Monday, March 22nd at 10:00 AM and tickets go on sale to the general public beginning Monday, March 29, 2010 at 10:00 AM. Check http://www.LiveNation.com for complete ticket information which allows fans to purchase tickets without any added fees and streamlines the ticket buying process. 8-Jun *Toronto, ON Rogers Centre
10-Jun East Rutherford, NJ New Meadowlands Stadium
I went through the Dixie Chicks presale process up to where they want your credit card info and it appears they have now hidden their fees except for print your own ticket and delivery fees.
Now we can’t see how much we are being gouged.
By the way, ticket prices for the first show at the Rogers Centre ( a 50,000+ seat venue ) go all the way up to $225. Too rich for me.

We could probably start another poll as to how many singers have been compared to Lucinda.
Here is a nice quote from Luxury Wafers Sessions on Erika.

Quote:
In Hold Your Head High, a raging alt-country rocker, Wennerstrom lets loose with cocky, whiskey-laden self-assurance. Her songwriting and slurred, gritty, howling, blurry screech is the sister of Lucinda Williams, with whom she toured in years past. Out At Sea sears, a thematically dense, epic rock track. Sway bounces along, breaking to Joplinesque choruses underscored by deep-digging bass.
No doubt Erika Wennerstrom remains the delicate bud of earthy megastar. I have the feeling that, like Lucinda, she’ll be around for a good long time, unfolding petals before devoted audiences who’d readily tear their hearts out for a taste of Heartless Bastard.
End quote
