Time once again to put Erika at the top of the heap for Lefty.
Here is an interview from KRCC Radio in Colorado Springs on May 14th from the Triple Nickle.
Erika talks a little bit of the new album in the works and the black and white concert footage is great to watch.

Favorite artists certainly can fluctuate. At present, my top 5 have been running consistent and as follows:

    1. John Mellencamp ~ That’s a given and lwy, your suspicions are spot on!
    2. Amos Lee
    3. Lucinda
    4. Mike Younger
    5. Stoll Vaughan

Hey Lafayette, as to Amos # 2 from his album”Last Days at the Lodge” Greg Liesz played pedal steel.
As TOverby just reported, Greg played rhythm guitar on Lu’s new song “Kiss Like Your Kiss”

Here is a quote on Amos album I’m sure you have seen before.
    QUOTE:
All songs are Lee compositions and he also plays guitars. His core rhythm section is made up of Doyle Bramhall, Jr on guitar, Spooner Oldham on keyboards, Pino Palladino on bass and James Gadson on drums but also making appearances are Greg Liesz on pedal steel, Rami Jafee on keys, Jamie Muhoberac on additional keys, Justin Stanley on keys, bass, drums, percussion, Don Was on keys and Patrick Leonard on harmonium & b-3. String arrangements are by the legendary Larry Gold.

It doesn’t quite reach the dizzy heights of sweetness and angst that his self-titled debut Amos Lee did but I definitely prefer this to its follow up, Supply and Demand. Four very solid stars.

Small world isn’t it?-all these links to Lucinda.

I remember a great version of Wrap My Head Around That the last time there and it was probably one of last times that was played live.

OK this is the only You Tube I could find on “Wrap My Head Around That”
Kind of appropriate with the fireworks (for Memorial /Victoria Day) from the WV State Fair in 2008
Have a listen to the full over 9 minutes. This must be a record song length for Lu.

How about Butch? What did he have for lunch that day?

We allready know the menu choice was a hot dog with no Canadian Cheddar cheese or a honey peanutbutter toasted sandwich.( maybe with an ice-cold Barq’s root beer to wash things down).
What a great Friday evening bit of fun to start a long weekend ( In Canada eh?-Victoria weekend and for south of the border=Memorial Day)

Tntracy, I know this is most unfair but look what I bought today especially seeing Kathleen just 3 weeks ago in Toronto.
This is an outdoor concert at Tawse Winery in Vineland, ON just 30 km’s from my house.
No ticketmaster fees on this one. I drove to the venue to check it out and got my ticket.
You don’t see many concert tickets with the performer’s pictures in colour nowdays.
If I get a chance to speak to her I’ll mention Eddie’s Attic from another devoted fan.

Thank you, thank you TOverby for “setting the record” straight for David as to re: record rights Lost Highway etc.
Lucinda only reinforces her song writing genius to me when she selects a word like aubergine.

I must admit I didn’t have a clue as to its meaning so I found out that it is referred to an eggplant of purplish colour.(not color=that’s the way you folks south of the border spell it.)
So as I see it we now have “Port Arthur” and “Kiss Like Your Kiss” a sure thing on the new album.
Keep the good stuff coming Lu.

    Great stuff David.
Love the song=sounds like there is a violin playing early in the song.
Here is what Elvis said about Lucinda’s song from his web site.
    QUOTE
“True Blood Volume 2” is released on May 25th
“The album contains a newly recorded Lucinda Williams song, “Kiss Like Your Kiss” which features a harmony vocal from Elvis Costello.

Speaking to minister of information, The Right Reverend Jimmy Quickly, Costello said:

“This is one of the best vocal performances of Lucinda’s recording career. I just tried to stay out of the way and add a little harmony where absolutely needed. It didn’t need a thing more. The show may make you want to bite someone on the neck but this song is going to make you wish you were loved or in love with someone enough so you could sing it to them.” End QUOTE
And KCRW-FM in LA had DJ Gary Calamar on “Morning Becomes Eclectic” on May 17th.
Gary is the supervisor for HBO’sTrue Blood.
You can listen to Gary as 3 songs are played.from Beck, Robbie Robertson and Jace Everett-sorry no Lu.

We have all been patiently waiting for Lu’s new album and tour, same with Arcade Fire’s new album and their new tour. ( 3 dates in Canada, the rest in Europe announced so far)
Maybe Lu is on their new full album.
This preview was just released today on their new single.
Very innovative teasing to hear a clip of two songs.
When they appeared on Austin City Limits, the announcer called them one of the most innovative bands currently.
When you play the 2nd tune the disc flips over.
Heck, if you play and pause a few times it’ll play backwards-scratchy vinyl included.

The Cactus Cafe is tentatively closing. This interview with Slaid Cleaves is in response to that closing.
Cleaves said his initial attraction to the Cactus Cafe was its historical value to Austin.
“At first, it was the mystique and the history of it,” he said. “Being a legendary proving grounds of people like Lyle Lovett and Nanci Griffith, who started their careers there, and knowing you’re standing exactly where Townes Van Zandt and Lucinda Williams stood — that’s pretty special.”

    Good news:
Just announced, the Cactus Cafe to stay open.It will be run by the U of T Student’s Union and KUT-FM
    http://www.austin360.com/music/cactus-cafe-to-stay-open-698194.html?cxntcid=breaking_news
And this e-mail was sent last week to the U of T and KUT-FM from the Save the Cactus Cafe group endorsed by the many artists that have performed there to keep it in its present format.
It is an impresssive list and includes Lucinda and Gurf.
    Here is the article.

Hmmm, could it be the “Methuselah of Righteous Cool,” Neil Young, Anne McCue ( doubtful, she just released new record,) Erika Wennerstrom (doubtful, touring), John Mellencamp (doubtful, he’s releasing record Aug 3 but could he add Lu, theres’ a TBone Burnett connection here, of sorts), OR could it be Amos Lee, who is recording material he was previewing at some recent shows

OK Lafayette, since you, tntracy and myself seem to have the distinct honor? of having posted the most in this forum of late, let’s not forget these possibilities.
for both tntracy and myself Kathleen Edwards and Pieta Brown.
I’ll let tntracy post his other wish list but I have a pretty good idea what it may include.
We already heard from the threesome( sorry twosome) for David Byrne-Bob and tonyg.
It’s not beyond the realm of possibilities for Erika as I know they are working on a follow up CD from the Mountain and Kathleen was recording last winter on the west coast.
Mr TOverby certainly knows how to tease us fans.

My guy Amos is performing in Friday’s line up.

How long of a drive from Cinci to Austin would this be for you Lafayette?
You would really have to load your iPod with lots of Amos, Stoll and JM for that road trip.
Most of the list does not ring a bell with me.
Of course we see the Eagles.
Two others that have appeared on this Forum are Lissie and Norah Jones.
I’m surprised Erika and the Heartless Bastards aren’t on the list as I believe they have participated almost yearly since 2005.
    Thanks for posting the schedule.
By the way we should find out soon who will be taping the Austin City Limits season on PBS.
