“Bolts of Melody” by Adam Franklin is even better than I thought it would be. “Let’s Drag Our Feet” by Boat sounds like a band having fun. Both albums deliver easy-listening music from a parallel universe… 8)

Thanks, Tim. Looking forward to Lu at the brewery.

Essence: Didn’t post that STL review to contradict you. I don’t doubt you saw a good show. I usually post stuff to stir the pot a little and get people talking about it (in a friendly and civil way). 🙂

A pleasant surprise has been “Now You Know,” Built to Spill frontman Doug Martsch’s 2002 solo effort. Sort of a country blues thing going on.

On deck: Adam Franklin’s “Bolts of Melody” and Windmill’s (aka Matthew Thomas Dillon) “Puddle City Racing Lights.”

I’ll be seeing her on 7/25 in beautiful downtown Utica. I’ll hope for the Denver setlist, but it really doesn’t matter, does it? Thanks for the info, Tim!

Hey, Tim. Similar setlists or is she mixing it up pretty well?

Rosie O’Donnell & Don Imus…Together, The New Dynamic Duo On Fox?
    By Gia Cortina
    Jun 15, 2007

With both Rosie O’Donnell and Don Imus currently unemployed, Fox News is reportedly looking to cash-in on this dynamic duo and send their ratings soaring!

Mike Walker reports that Fox is willing to pay big bucks for the controversial “Dream Team” to co-host a new political talk show.

Walker says, “Sounds insane, you say? That what take-no-prisoners loudmouth Rosie said…until Fox corporate-jetted her to the Imus Ranch in New Mexico for a secret meet and greet. Incredibly, she and the acid-tongued radio talk vet hit it off, and Rosie – who’s famed for children’s charity efforts – was impressed by Imus’ program for cancer-stricken kids at the ranch.”

Ian Hunter’s Shrunken Heads is worth a listen, imho. Has things to say about the current administration, Hurricane Katrina, our debtor nation, and other fun stuff. Relevant rock from a guy not far from 70!

Amacker Bullwinkle (‘Yes, that is her name’) is a California-based artist and cultural figure. Looks like she’s created a number of rock ‘n’ roll posters that Wolfgang’s Vault has for sale. Maybe Lu is friends with her?

The Amacker family settled in the Florida parishes of Louisiana in the early nineteenth century. Obadiah Pearson Amacker (1838-1910) rose to the rank of acting colonel in the 3rd (Wingfield’s) Regiment, CSA Cavalry. He married Abigail Means Kent in 1864. Following his discharge in 1865, the family moved to Greensburg, Louisiana, where Obadiah practiced law.

This collection includes a Civil War diary kept by Abigail (Kent) Amacker that describes life on the home front in the Florida parishes of Louisiana. A list, 1861, of the officers and men of the first company to leave St. Helena Parish, Louisiana, as part of the 4th Regiment, Louisiana Infantry, and Confederate records transcribed from the Louisiana State Library Commission document the service of the Amacker family in the Civil War. A printed pamphlet, 1959, contains genealogical records of the Amacker family from the eighteenth to the twentieth centuries.

    Summary from a La. library’s microfilm files…
