Very cool statistics. Now, granted, it is only accurate as far as the setlists that have been posted there in total (which is 31 – not many). But, if we are vigilant & post all the setlists there going forward, then, “Over Time”, this will be a cool breakdown to see…

I’m sure you are aware of this, but it also keeps statistics on the songs one hears at shows they have listed as attending. All of the shows I’ve attended aren’t represented (mostly Mellencamp openers) but here is a sample of songs I’ve heard.

Lu appears on the WEEKEND/LIFE pullout section of Friday’s Cincinnati Enquirer as a BEST BET.

Music fans will be blessed Saturday night when Lucinda Williams returns to the Madison Theater. One of the brightest lights among today’s singer-songwriters had a sellout crowd on its feet during her last visit here two years ago. This time Williams brings 12 new songs from “Blessed,” her best album in years. 8 p.m. Saturday, 730 Madison Ave Covington, $30, $25 advance. 859-491-2444; madisontheateronline.com; ticketmaster.com

How many guitar straps does Lu own? I would love to keep a running track of her collection of guitar straps used on the tour. Do they have a setlist.fm statistic for guitar straps? 🙂

Last night, very cool rhinestone(or are they swarovski?) skulls on her custom metal guitar and this one on her acoustic.

Doug played a couple of shows with Lu this past fall (Bridge School Benefit, Mountain Winery, etc.), and with the whole band, including Val, on NYE at the Viper Room, so he’s around.

I’m really looking forward to hearing the new guitarist in Atlanta next week. Every axe man has something new to bring to the table.

Oh, you are going to love the young one.

best setlist ever (esp. 2-6). lucinda, don’t be hard on SYL! i want to hear this so-called best-sounding version ever.

EDIT: so i read everything. well, nice to know that she loves the song. there was a comment here a few years ago attached to a setlist in which she (supposedely) said that not all of her songs can be masterpieces, and that was refering to SYL. could never forget it because SYL is always a huge favorite around here.

SYL is a gorgeous love song that even my non-LUheads friends love, but i agree that the live versions i have aren’t exactly magical or stellar or whatever. the luscious aspect, of course, goes away, but the luscious aspect IS the song, you take that and all there’s left are half-empty words. i’m glad you’re working towards a glorious live version. it’s a song delved into our aesthetic pleasure, and keeping it sublime for a colective aesthetic experience should be the stairway to paradise. keep playing it.

It was gorgeous, pdl. It had a swampy sound, IMHO.

TO — I could have sworn I heard her talk about “Steal Your Love” (possibly the New York live shows in 2007) as one she just didn’t think was up to her standards. I stand corrected. It kicked *ss last night.

Back in my myspace days, I would listen to 500 Miles To Memphis. Will be my first time seeing them as well, and yes, I LOVE the idea of fusing local acts as an opener. It’s an old school way of booking and one that’s a win win as far as I’m concerned. The potential to bring the opener’s fans into the fray and the opening act gets bragging rights as opening for a national treasure.

One more thing. The winner of the two tickets (from facebook contest) for last night’s show was standing behind me. She was absolutely thrilled to be there.

Welcome to all the new posters here!

Stoger, I was under the impression there was an opening act. I saw it posted somewhere…facebook I think, however, I’ve been without internet (until today) since Tuesday. Obviously, no opening act.

Additional musings on last night’s show.

Lu was wearing black button down shirt opened showing a black bustier type top underneath, black jeans, and these rocking black motorcyle type boots with rhinestone straps for those into her fashion attire.

Blake was wearing…oh, never mind. 😆

Blake received an “I’m not worthy” wave from Lucinda after “Convince Me.” I’m so glad that song made it into the setlist. Love that song, recorded version and live version. Lu was smiling from ear to ear many times during the show.

I jumped for joy when I saw “Steal Your Love” on the setlist. I know Lu doesn’t care for that song too much (she has said in past it doesn’t measure up to her standards looking back on it) but after last night, I hope that changes. The beginning of the song was a little shaky, however, it started gelling, after the first couple of lines, into this amazing, amazing version. As stoger noted, Lu acknowledged it as well.

The second encore was interesting. Lu thanked the audience (again) for coming (after the first encore), left the stage, and the house music came on. Eric had to shine his flashlight into the upper deck (it’s baseball season) to signal Lu was coming back. Great rendition of “For What’s It’s Worth”.

The audience response (and love) from this show was incredible. I rate it as second of the shows I’ve attended behind The Orange Peel last month. I don’t think anything can top that show.

A Mellencamp friend of mine came to the show last night. She has been wanting to see Lu headline since she saw her open for JM at Riverbend in Cincinnati in 2008. She almost came to Bloomington last month but couldn’t make it because of weather. She was blown away by last night’s appearance. She left a message for Lu on her facebook page I know she won’t mind me sharing here, as well as one on my page.

    Lu’s page:

I attended my 1st show last night @ the Vogue in Indy and all I can say is WOW! I was blown away! I expected it to be great, but the show I saw was so incredible, full of emotion and energy, that it was as though I’d had a religious experience. I danced, I sang, I listened, I watched, and I felt so intensely, so much of what you sang. I felt so blessed to be a part of the audience last night. Thank you.

    my page:

saw Lucinda Williams last night at the Vogue with Mary Caroline Schoeff! What an amazing performance! She is incredible!! We thoroughly enjoyed every minute of her performance, and hanging out after the show at the bus! Cindy Briggs, it was SOOO great to see you and hang out!! We’ll have to do it again FOR SURE!

WNKU has been advertising this show with shout outs from the music hosts and I’ve heard a few promoter blurbs as well. I’m so excited she is coming back!

She’s listening to Amos 😉 on the road! Have I told anyone this is my dream show?! 🙂 Don Was produced his 3rd record “Supply And Demand.” Dontcha love the dots?

And, yes, Over The Rhine is on the road at present (I checked weeks ago wondering if they would perhaps make an appearance,) however their schedule is open July 15, at least on their website. 😮 In regards to listening to their tunes prior to Ohio, a little trivia thrown in here. Cincinnati’s PNC Pavillion (formerly National City Pavillion), the host of Lucinda Williams / Amos Lee in Cincinnati in July, opened with a sold out show with Over The Rhine playing their double album Ohio in its entirety. A Paste write up about that show HERE—->http://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2008/04/over-the-rhine-to-perform-ohio-at-cincinnati-event.html

My pleasure (as well as stoger)! We had a great time chatting with you last night, thanks for your time, and I thought you were outstanding. Very impressive for one so young. Just remember one thing…when mama’s happy, everybody’s happy. Mama was happy last night 😉 She was grinning from ear to ear not to mention you receiving, what I refer to as the, “I’m not worthy” wave after “Convince Me” [It was “Convince Me”, wasn’t it stoger?]

I’m hoping I can make it to Chicago, I’m anxious to see you in your comfort zone, and you should be there by then.

Good report Stoger. So Blake already has fans holding up signs?

Imagine my surprise after receiving an email from the road warrior, suggesting we hold signs to welcome Blake to the band. This, from one in the same, who politely declined holding a “Blessed” sign at the Nelsonville, OH show. Of course, that involved being included in a photograph — perhaps said warrior is a bit camera shy. I happily assumed sign making duties (love this kind of stuff). Yep, those two crazies were none other than yours truly and the road warrior. Stoger held his “Welcome” sign above my “Blake!” sign. We were in front near Lu’s microphone on David’s side, however, Blake saw the sign as well as Lu, who made a point to show to Blake. Stoger shirked his duties, however, as the game plan also called to hold up said signs after Blake was introduced during band intros. He must have been lost in the magnifence of the show. I came thru, though, and another smile from Blake rounded out the night.

I have some additional musings, just a few, but am short on time and will report back later.
