ParticipantRow F isn’t too shabby, stevarino. Is that pit seating or regular reserved?
Lafayette
ParticipantCongrats, Blake, on your first Lu duet!
I’m happy to see some of the other songs from “West” get some attention in regards to set list inclusion and your insight on how the songs are shaping up for you.
Lafayette
ParticipantIncredible set list! Love seeing more of the “West” “rarities.” LOVE “Hard Time Killing Floor Blues.” “Side Of The Road” and “World Without Tears” rounds out the wow factor.
Thanks for the report, tnt. Safe travels to you, your compadres AKA the horsemen, and everyone else on their way to Knoxville.
Lafayette
ParticipantI have seen it, in the press, being billed as a co-headlining show.
Lafayette
Participantstevarino, the pre-sale is done thru Lu’s FB page. The password is BLESSED.
All hands were on deck this morning–we scored 3 seats in the center section, 3rd row! A friend of mine was the one that came thru as we (the horsemen) were pulling 11th row. Have I mentioned I’m so excited about this show? 😆

ParticipantIt’s goose bump material for me.

ParticipantGreat report, Sandy! Lu was in a chatty mood last night, so it seemed. Very cool.
I haven’t heard “Passionate Kisses” in a long time. “Still I Long For Your Kiss”–ooh la la.

Lu then introduced the band, starting with Blake Mills from Venice, California. ‘We are very blessed to be working with him.’ Meanwhile, Butch was holding up the “Welcome Blake” sign that Lafayette and Stoger first held up to welcome Blake to the band at the Indianapolis show. It was pretty funny. 🙂
HILARIOUS! I so wish I could have seen that! Thanks for reporting the fun stuff, too.
Butch (Martin-HA!) has a great sense of humor. Perhaps he should put on his drum head “My name is Butch (NORTON)” for those that don’t take the time to get the names right.

18) He’s God – “I learned this from a guy named Blind Pearly Brown – a blind preacher street singer – my dad took me to see when I was 6 years old living in Macon, Georgia. My first musical influence I can remember. You can find his music out there if you look.”
“Sending this out to Christopher Hayseed Wyant; he wrote one of my favorite songs – ‘I got a God-shaped hole in my soul’.”
“I used to, in the heyday of the feminist movement, used to say ‘She’s God’.”
I loved this song so much, after this show, that upon Lu’s advice, I went searching for Blind Pearly Brown’s music, since Lu said it was her first musical interest. It lead me to some fascinating finds and more dot connecting.
I easily found a few CD’s of Blind Pearly Brown’s on amazon, ordered one, and discovered, upon listening to the CD, that “He’s God” is actually “God Don’t Never Change.” Further research had me discovering that Blind Pearly Brown was covering Blind Willie Johnson. The song (if my research is accurate) was originally recorded in New Orleans in Dec, 1929.

I’m copying and pasting this information along with a few additional nuggets in the singer/songwriter thread.

Lafayette
ParticipantThe “new” Steal Your Love. The video portion isn’t all that great, angle bad, lighting not so good, and I knew that before I started filming, but I just had to get this on tape to remember it. Awesome, awesome version.

Two lovely songs of Lu’s that I think are “criminally under-played” (as someone else phrased it in another thread about another song) are “Like A Rose” & “Sharp Cutting Wings (Song To A Poet)”.
Now, of course, these are “mellow” songs as opposed to “rockers”, so they may not be good candidates for “the treatment”. So, another song, more of a rocker and one with a definite groove, that I hardly ever hear Lu play is “Hot Blood”. I love that song, too!
Tom
I know you do, tnt, and I was thinking of you as I heard Lu sing it. The acoustics were impeccable.

ParticipantI grabbed a City Beat newspaper to stay relatively dry while standing in line in addition to the two guys standing behind me that shared their umbrella. They told me they had tickets to see The Decemberists in Columbus, but once they heard Lu was in Cincinnati, they had to see her in lieu of the Columbus event. I then shared with them the news Lu would be back around with Amos in July and to look for tickets to go on sale as well.
No problem on saving a spot at the stage, stevarino. My pleasure even if my neck is a bit craned from that very high stage. I forgot how high it was. The acoustics in that place, or should i say the sound, was most excellent.
Lu had on the same black garb as the Indy show, different boustier, and some kicking Gringo boots (not the studded ones), plain with a strap and buckle.
I’m convinced the skull guitar strap is Swarovski crystals. Mesmerizing. Beautiful.
Not much more to add to stoger’s account. I’m looking forward to hearing how the rest of the tour develops and I have high hopes to make it to Chicago to see the “Fruits Of Their Labor” Perhaps I’ll see you there stevarino.
Lafayette
ParticipantI’m loving the “new” looks into the recorded versions, frequently played or no.
I was listening to “West” on my drive home from Indy the other night, and was grooving on “Where Is My Love?” I have a fondness for this record (I know a few don’t) as it helped get me thru the grieving period after the loss of my Mother.
Lafayette
ParticipantHA! I’ll expand more on this when time permits, but the back story on the shower of love is hilarious (to me).
Mutlu, AKA “Angel,” is a singer songwriter from Philadelphia, and I think its safe to say he and Amos are very good friends. It seems Amos likes having him on the road with him. He’s opened shows for Amos over the years and at present is one of the two backup singers on the “Mission Bell” tour.
They started this schtick a year or so ago. Mutlu comes out as the “Angel” to sing, sort of ad lib, with Amos. I’ve heard the shower of love and the hot dog of love and the hotel freaky version of love. It’s very entertaining.
This is an excellent, excellent rendition. The Angel appears at the 4:00 minute mark but the whole song is just great. They have a great repoire.
