Too bad, lwj. Farm Aid is scheduling extreme temperature shows. Last year very cold in Milwaukee in October and I would bet very hot in KC in August. I personally prefer hot weather over cold.

jM abroad…it’s been a long time coming for those fans.

James McMurtry was given his break into the biz by Mr.Mellencamp after his father, Larry McMurtry, handed John a demo tape while they were filming ” Falling From Grace” John produced James first record, recorded at John’s studio, Belmont Mall, near Nashville, IN. The rest is history. I!m not sure on timeline of David playing first with James or vice versa.

TNT…I noticed the Townes Van Zandt reference in the photo. It was out of left field.

In the words of his friend Bono: “Almost no one sings like Elvis Presley anymore. Hundreds try to sing like Dylan. To understand his impact as a singer, you have to imagine a world without Tom Waits, Kurt Cobain, Bruce Springsteen, Lucinda Williams or any other vocalist with a cracked voice, dirtbowl yelp or bluesy street howl.”

I’m impressed, stoger, you knew David was former JM guitarist. Common knowledge or did you use a cheat sheet? 😆

Even more JM references in this thread. Mellencamp’s 2001 effort was titled “Cuttin’ Heads.” 😉

I have to agree, Lu has a tight band with the addition of Blake. Not to be forgotten is David. I always feel like the bass player in a band plays the role of an offensive or defensive lineman—protecting the quarterback or opening up holes for the running back— a key player that seldom gets the recognition they deserve.

Thanks for the reports all! Apologies for raining on your setlist parade, stoger.

My thoughts were Angel was the Jimi Hendrix cover, especially with it being listed as an encore. She usually performed that song as part of her encore.

You are going to the dark side…male artists.

Angel?! My brother loved that song after the Chicago ’09 show.

Thank you, TO, for filling in the blanks. I love the attention to an ever revolving setlist as Lu makes her way from town to town, state to state.

I received our tix as well. I’m puzzled by the 3X factor on 3rd row pit seats in the center. Should be a 1X factor. Back in the day I use to get hung up on that x factor.

All 4 of Amos’s CDs have something to offer. I have very few songs on any of his records I really don?t care for. Less than a handful.

Great report! I wonder if the native Australian server who waited on us this past Monday at HOB ducked in for a song or two after I told him Lu was such a fabulous artist (he was unaware of Lu but I was sure gushing about her). The following day found us at at the Hard Rock for lunch, I looked over and saw the same server working the tables at that establishment. I wonder if they are one in the same as far as employees? I’m meandering.

Lu has had an incredible guest list of artists joining her on this tour. Wowza on Charlie Sexton, not to mention Erika in Texas. I hope video surfaces of some of these incredible stage moments!

P.S. I was studyinging the abstract painting on the women’s “lu” walls at HOB and trying to figure out how to incorporate it somewhere in my house. 😯 8) 😆

Also, I saw the newsletter mentioning the TV appearances and upcoming shows. I particularly loved the description … A very set of special shows with Lucinda Williams…in reference to this summer’s pairing where I’m almost certain to go into near cardiac arrest. I’m going to be wishing my summer away waiting on them.

I had a great time, true dat (a nod to NOLA speak). Believe it or not I wasn’t up front but a satisfactory place for me. There is a VIP section [an astronomical amount of money] which allows one in the 1st partition of barriers. I was positioned about 4 rows back in the peon section, the second set of barriers. I could have been on that second rail but DH was with me and he doesn’t do well with standing shows. He did make it thru Amos’s set but he was in the back of the crowd and watched on the big screen 😆 while I was able to maneuver thru the crowd without irritating too many.

Apologies for the duplicate video link. I should have realized lwj had it covered! 😀 😆 😳

The video is a great capture of this song. As much as I love “I Just Wanted To See You So Bad,” I think “Buttercup” is a perfect opener, especially for open air venues and GA shows where the tone is higher energy.

According to news reports, the Mississipi is spilling over onto Beale Street. Weather related tragedies continue.

I found video evidence of “buttercup” as the lead off song for Beale Street. It sounded fantastic! I’ m unable to provide link…on my iPad as PC is in the shop.
