“Essence” should have made the list as well, IMHO đ
LafayetteParticipantHe’s 60 years old today.
Happy Birthday, indeed!
LafayetteParticipantI think it’s a very cool idea — I would not be surprised if Lu was a no show — very close to the holidays and she’s not exactly a “fly the skies” kind of gal.
However, Chez Lafayette has the vacancy sign hanging from the window.
LafayetteParticipantMore Herzog studios info and podcast:

LafayetteParticipantI’m speechless! I hope it comes to fruition, how cool will that be?
I tried telling Lu the first time I met her that Cincinnati was rich with some Hank Williams history. Legend has it there is an apartment that held a piano, next to the studio, and Hank use to play it to work out songs. The piano was too big to move out thru the doors. Renting the apartment also meant the piano came with the rental. Reading thru this article on the history of Herzog, apparently, someone found a way to get the piano out and it now is in the studio building.
Good read on Herzog studios in Cincinnati.

And as an added trivia, King Records was also another historic studio here in the Cincinnati area. James Brown recorded there and always gave a tip hat to Cincy as the place where his career took off.
Bootsy Collins, bass player for James back in the day and Cincinnati resident, is the common denominator in keeping the history of these famous studios alive.
Thanks, lefty & lwj for the heads up!

I have been to Hamilton many times. The steel city! Been to Copps Coliseum, is that where he is playing?
I think JM would be hard pressed to sell Copps Coliseum. Those days are history. He said he’s making records these days as more of a calling card.
LafayetteParticipantYes, I would assume scheduling conflict translates to poor ticket sales. đ
lwj, I think you would really enjoy the show. It’s 2+ hours in length (first time in many years he has played this length of show, average before was 90 minutes) with many songs re-arranged, which I love, but the average concert goer seems not to like. They want to hear the hits which you get at the end of the show. This is the last leg of the tour promoting “No Better Than This.” I understand it’s a steep price but it’s worth the cost of the ticket, IMHO.
I just checked Grand Rapids MI. Their lower priced tickets are $50.00.
LafayetteParticipantIncludes 30 minute podcast discussing the project.
LafayetteParticipantAnother nod to Lu on the Steve Cropper project from Pop Matters.

In a series of stellar vocal performances, Lucinda Williams makes the biggest impression. Her rough voice contrasts with the â5â Royalesâ harmonies. The performance carries emotional weight without any overreaching. It doesnât hurt that sheâs joined by Dann Penn and gets background vocals from Dylan Leblanc, Lee Roy Parnell, and Kebâ Moâ. The strong showing on the marquee track makes it appropriate that she returns for the closing number, âWhen I Get Like Thisâ. Williamsâs style stays different from the Royalesâ, yet itâs a perfect blend with the R&B band backing her.

I just received JM’s e-mail on the new Fall tour.
Boy Lafayette, I have 2 choices to see John.
Oct. 28 in London, ON ( my home town ) + Amos in Toronto, ON on October 27th
Or October 29 in Hamilton, ON ( only a 45 minute drive for me.)
How’s the gossip news these days about John and Meg Ryan?
Are you stll travelling to Kansas City for Farm Aid next month?lwj
Did you choose a show yet, lwj? IF you plan on seeing JM this fall, looks as though you will have to opt for Hamilton, ON as he has cancelled his London, ON gig due to schedule conflict.
LafayetteParticipantJust announced–Amos opening for one of his heroes (has opened shows in the past as well)–John Prine.

LafayetteParticipantI’ve been to three of her favorite venues.
My money is on stoger for all ten.

Yes, lwj, he did at least once (Raleigh) this summer. I think we can expect Over the Rhine, local, Blake Mills, local, Buick 6, Blake Mills, local. . . as kind of a pattern, based on this year. And it’s not a bad pattern. All this and January duo shows too: whoo hoo!!
I’ve been working on accruing sky miles points — January is looking to be a slow show month (for me), which is a good thing, perhaps an air trip is in my near future. 8)
LafayetteParticipantHe’s going to need a lot of paper.
LafayetteParticipant“I’m Down”
I like the history of this song & could definitely see Lu pulling it off. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I’m_Down
* Paul wrote the lyrics, but is credited to Lennon/McCartney. Released as the B side of “Help.”
*Aerosmith covered this song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZAmtYxfGxs According to setlistfm, with current data input, they are the last band to play this song on 10/23/01. http://www.setlist.fm/stats/songs/the-beatles-23d6a88b.html?song=I’m+Down [have I mentioned how much I like setlistfm? đ ]
*Paul opened his set with “I’m Down” at The Concert For NYC after 9/11.
