Okay, thanks for the footwork. I know you are a proponent of the B & B’s and I was ready to dismiss this leg of the tour as most hotels were running much more than I want to spend. Agree with the travel time to and from. Will be sans husband as the kid will actually be returning from a high adventure trip on the 14th (of July) from Northern Tier, along the Canadian border. http://www.ntier.org/About.aspx and husband will be the greeter from said trip, provided we don’t get any emergency calls before the trip ends.

So, thanks to your added leg work, I’m in, HOWEVER, will probably be doing the VIP experience, if available, since this is my only solo show.

I had ruled out the last show, between nearly 9 hours plus crossing the border, it would be a long ass trip and we leave for vacation the day after I would be getting home. Good grief, age is becoming a factor. 😮

You scooped me, lwj! I was predisposed all day Saturday with two productions of Beauty and the Beast at my son’s junior high school and missed the announcement!

After looking at the schedule (he is deep north, at points, on this leg) the two shows that are closest have me at odds. The Sarnia show works best for me, HOWEVER, it’s a festival and I’m not sure how easy it would be to get close to the stage (a priority [for me] with Mr. M). Checking the website, however, has me pondering. It has a gates open at 6:30 p.m. tag. Have you ever attended this festival before and have the 411?

Hat tip to you, tnt. I looked at Justin’s show schedule and think I will drive over to Columbus for that May 11 show!

I’ll be up to a show (or two) as long as it’s within my 8 hour driving window. Unfortunately, I would bet ticket prices will be around the the same price range as before since it says he is continuing his No Better Than This Tour.

ALSO, super excited about the art gallery exhibit in Nashville. I plan on attending that as well!

    Welcome hornsbytree !

First, one way to post pictures is to use a hosting site, i.e. photobucket, flickr, etc.

Second, what exactly are you looking for as far as Amos goes on shows? Will YouTube footage work? I have a few of Amos on my channel including a great capture of him with Willie and Mickey Raphael at Farm Aid (Amos’s official YouTube channel ending up using it!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHtmck4Cr0U and even an Amos/Lu duet in Cleveland http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1lCQTMnlJE&list=UUgpXgTp1CISfEdVWucINn8Q&index=9&feature=plcp

I have tickets for his Knoxville TN show on April 22.

HA. I thought I had posted this link but apparently forgot. JM talks about “borrowing” from Woody.

    http://www.mellencamp.com/news.html?n_id=1644

Mellencamp is one of the top-selling and charting American musicians, with hits that include “Pink Houses,” “Lonely Ol’ Night,” “Rain On The Scarecrow,” “Paper In Fire,” “Crumblin’ Down,” “Small Town,” “R.O.C.K. In The U.S.A.,” “Hurts So Good,” “Jack And Diane” and dozens more.

But, “I’ve stolen so many lines from him it’s ridiculous,” he said, laughing.

“That’s really the question you should ask everybody: ‘So how much s— have you stolen from Woody?’ … Oh, a lot. But if you look around at all contemporary songwriters who do pop songs. They’ll tell you, ‘Well, I stole this from Woody, I got that from Woody.’ “

Guthrie often did the same thing, Mellencamp said.

“Of course Woody was a huge thief himself and proud of it. He’d take music and write his own lyrics. He’d rewrite other people’s songs.”

That’s how most art is created, Mellencamp said.

“I mean, people would say, ‘Woody, that song sounds just like so-and-so or such-and-such and he’d say, ‘Well, gosh-darn it, I meant for it to!’ “

There is perhaps one thing that has inspired Mellencamp the most, he said.

“Just being able to stand up for himself and be counted as an individual. Plus, he also lived outside of the music business.”

In a time before major record label deals, arena tours and million-dollar contracts, Guthrie was out in the cotton fields playing to migrant workers. He wrote and performed because he felt compelled to, Mellencamp said.

“You, know, I’ve always been an outsider, too.”

John always said his music, when he wrote it, was nothing more than a folk song. I’m sure Woody’s influence was behind this train of thought. His first rock folk breakout song that falls along this vein is “Jackie Brown.”

A great cover of “Do Re Mi” by JM and his band from the “Lonesome Jubilee” days (late 80’s )with some thoughts on Woody.

Northern Ky University that serves Cincinnati area and now beyond after acquiring several stations last year.

They are based in Highland Heights, Ky, 10 minutes south of downtown Cincinnati. It was cool to hear.

TO~ From all the interviews I’ve seen John do over the years, Woody has always been one of the most discussed as one of his influences.

Thanks for posting ticket info, WW!

Wow, what a lineup! Too bad Mr. Mellencamp isn’t on list, he truly is a Johnny Cash fan. It does state additional artists to be added. Ticket prices, however, made this decision a no brainer for me. Standing room tickets are being sold at $165 each.

The Austin City Limits Johnny Cash tribute show made me sit up in my chair. 😀

I have no knowledge, no leaks, but I’m guessing Mr. Mellencamp could be included. Double shot.

Thanks for the info. Off to plot. 😆
