LafayetteParticipant
Thanks, lwj! The pony express arrived with your package.
I just returned from a Mellencamp trip. http://blogs.heraldtimesonline.com/mb/?p=2549
LafayetteParticipantThe beginning of the sample sounds very similar to Soldier’s Song.
I would love to know how many songs Lu has contributed/dueted/appeared. Certainly it has to be close to a Guinness record of some sort? 😛
LafayetteParticipantGreat reports and I love the bad ass rock goddess mention. Indeed.
LafayetteParticipantI missed this thread. I’m slipping in my Lu forum reading ways.
Thanks for the reports! One day I need to make it out West.

I’m hoping for a few more!
Ditto.
So, I can do this v—-v
😮 😉
HOWEVER, very happy Pittsburgh is in the mix, it’s a FREE outdoor show, and more than likely, will see a Mellenbud at this show. She’s local to Pittsburgh and likes Lucinda. BAM!
LafayetteParticipantI caught Justin last night in Columbus, OH at a wonderful venue, The Bluestone, a converted church. The building had fantastic stained glass windows and a stage backdrop that was breathtaking, all wood. It looked like the venue held 300 – 500. There was an outdoor patio area, several bars. Also, adorned on the walls were gig posters from many different artists, all for sale. I found one Lu poster from 2008, a festival in OH. When I have more time, I’ll post it.
The show was good but more streamlined as far as banter and talk. I’m guessing perhaps it was the show format. Too bad that didn’t hold true for the audience. I went to this show with a friend, not particularly interested in Justin’s music (it was more a night out for her) so we sat off to the side. We were just amazed at the number of folks talking on the periphery. I’m not familiar with all of Justin’s work, I only have his last release “Harlem River Blues,” along with my purchase of his latest last night, but he did seem to cover a lot of material from his last two + a Hank Williams song, early in the set.
I would definitely go see him again, only next time, with someone who likes to get close to the stage. I think I would have enjoyed it even more but that’s me.
LafayetteParticipantOoops, I forgot. 😳 I sent you a DM.
I’ll give the B & B another look but I think it will be nothing short of miraculous to find one nearby.
LafayetteParticipantThank you, linkmeister!
LafayetteParticipantYeah, I had heard the back story on the lost recordings and knew Levon had played on drums, but never realized the treasure trove of the rest of the backing musicians until he posted this picture.

We saw Pieta & Bo perform at a house concert last night here in Atlanta. They were fantastic; mesmerizing, even. She signed a couple of gig posters for me afterwards. A great evening, in a wonderful, intimate environment…

You have unearthed a listening enthusiast’s gold mine!
LafayetteParticipantOn my first listen, I too, felt as though this had been recorded in the “Blessed” sessions which I thought was interesting since I knew Doug was playing on this song and had not on “Blessed.”
Lu’s vocals are absolutely breathtaking to listen to these past few years, this song included. No one can sing with raw emotion better than her.
LafayetteParticipantWas anyone able to listen to this? I missed it. 👿
LafayetteParticipantWowza.
Lefty, you forgot this —->
LafayetteParticipantMike is posting pics to his FB. His studio band for his lost recordings:
Jan 15th, 16th and 17th 2001 I was with this bunch making a record in Memphis. Left to right,
me, Spooner Oldham, David Hood, Luther Dickinson, Jim Dickinson and Levon HelmLafayetteParticipantMike Younger (one of my top 5 artists 😀 ) cut a record with Levon Helm (on drums), a sophomore set after his critically acclaimed “Something In The Air” in the late 90’s. http://www.cduniverse.com/search/xx/music/pid/1187838/a/Somethin%27+in+the+Air.htm
The record company he was signed with folded and along with it they took his recordings. He has never been able to get them back. He just posted a pic and his thoughts on FB.
“Some thoughts on the passing of a friend. 11 years ago I got to record with some of my heroes. Due to circumstances beyond my control and also due to the cruel backbiting in the biz and the callous cruelty of some of those involved this record was buried. Over the years I can’t tell you how many people have told me to just let go of it…Levon’s passing has brought it all to the surface for me again.I wish I had the recordings to share with you but these photos are all i was left with. The tapes have been withheld from me first by the producer, now by his sons. It has shaken my faith in the decency of human beings. Levon did all he could to help me get these recordings back but was unable to help in the end. The possessors of the tapes remain unmoved. We remained friends in spite of this and I will miss him going forward. He was a tremendous influence on me and my playing. My thoughts are with his wife Sandy and daughter Amy.”
