LafayetteParticipant
Wow. I’m catching up on Lu postings. How did I miss this thread? shortly we may be referring to your concert/show outings as Tony’s Excellent Adventures.
LafayetteParticipantYour West coast road warrior reports always deliver, tonyg!
LafayetteParticipantJim & Buddy are headed to my neck of the woods, promoting that new record – late February in the newly opened Southgate House (moved after legal issues with sibling co owners). I haven’t been to the new place but am looking forward to it. The new venue is a former church.
This link has info on the show, along with album and song list.

Great report Lafayette. I was following your live updates on Facebook. You are right about Mr. Stoger. Stick with him and you end up in good places.
I thought if any of my facebook friends caught my initial post and interested in updates, it would have been you and TNT.
LafayetteParticipantOh, I also had a John Mellencamp, it’s a small world moment, while riding the shuttle service to the hotel from the airport. I struck up a conversation with a woman from Bloomington, IN. She is a painter and was spending a few days in NYC to visit some museums for inspiration. She told me she had been to one (or more) of John’s art shows and years ago he had attended one of her gallery exhibits. She also told me she does an exhibit at a large art show in Cincinnati at Coney Island – Summerfest. I’m going to try to make it (held in June) and find her (if I don’t forget 😆 ).
LafayetteParticipantGreat review, lwj. I was trying to take some photos with my point and shoot and my camera phone. The lights were washing out every artist I tried to photograph using my amateur equipment.
LafayetteParticipantFinally, reporting in…
My trip was way too short, however, I thoroughly enjoyed my 26 hours in the Big Apple. In all, five forum members represented at The Beacon Theater. It was great to meet up with the Horsemen and also meet the West Coast FF contingent – grumpymama and SamishSeaMike.
Dinner and drinks pre show at The Amsterdam Cafe, near The Beacon.
The show was amazing. Each and every performer. The sound was incredible. Lu noticed as well and at one point told the audience her signature line – “If mama’s happy everybody’s happy.” Lu looked beautiful and so very happy. She was glowing. As noted, by Stoger, Steve sat in on a few songs. I was hoping we would see Shawn and Shelby during the encore but they were no where in sight. Shelby did mention something about a frog in her throat during her set.
I was live tweeting Lu’s set on my facebook page. Here are my notes. Auto correct twisted a few and I didn’t bother to correct.
Cindy Briggs Lake Charles (solo)
Cindy Briggs Band joins Lu for Drunken Angel.
Steve Earle joins Lu on harp.
Steve gives Lu a hug. Concert and Barbed Wire.
Steve gives Lu a big ol smooch and exits stage. Now playing Jackson.
New song Lu saying it may be performed in Nashville. Something Wicked at his away Comes..
Band Intros. Out of Touch!
Steve Earle watching side stage .
Essence. Lu just commented she loves Doug Pettibones outro on Out of Touch.
Lu saying Allman Bris big influence of hers. Ain’t Your Cross To Bear. She always nails this song.
Righteously. Lu commenting she knew she made it when she went into a little bar in Burbank and Righteously was a karaoke choice…AND she got up sang it. lol.
Lu commenting on how good the sound is. “When mamas happy everybody’s happy.” Changed The Locks.
Lu thanking everyone for supporting WFUV and all the artists on the bill. Honey Bee.
Lu exiting stage. I look for all the artists on this bill to join Lu for the encore.
Time crunch. Lu back. Joy. She’s sending this song to the Sandy victims.
Steve aware on guitar on Joy.
Get Right With God. Steve Earle still on guitar.
That’s a wrap.
After the show, we lost Mike (as he mentioned), however, we managed to get back to the VIP area via The Professor and his charm with security – the coolest detail I’ve encountered in quite some time. We had a few drinks, saw Lu ever so briefly in a receiving line as we exited, and then made our way back to The Amsterdam Cafe for late night after show sustenance.A big thanks to the FF – attending shows are so much more enjoyable with friends.
LafayetteParticipantWow. Only 4 seats left for the Sunday evening show (via the red dots tonyg mentioned). The show on Monday has a few more available, a few singles close to the stage, and plenty with a side view.
Here is the link of the seating chart for Monday’s show.

LafayetteParticipantChicago show, same story, different city. I was able to snag three seats together in the first section of tables from the stage.
Also, tickets are up for the Louisville show. I checked after purchasing Chicago. Tickets have been on site to purchase since November 24, however, 3 single PIT seats were available, one with my name on it.

I didn’t procrastinate this time: Can you say Dallas-Austin-Dallas Commute Week?
Road Warrior.
LafayetteParticipantWe would have much preferred the SPACE venue, however, the mid week night did not work with our schedules. I saw Chuck Prophet at this venue over the summer. Nice SPACE, great wine. 😀

Interesting.
Mr. Mellencamp has been railing against the music industry (management/executives) from practically day one, when Tony DeFries changed his name to John Cougar and he had no idea until the album cover was whipped out during a meeting. He isn’t called the Lil’ Bastard for nuttin’.
LafayetteParticipantThank you for the heads up, Paul. It’s too bad we can’t make it to The Space in Evanston, IL (Chicago suburb) on the following Wednesday. They have tables set up in the front of the room with less distraction (no food) but that day doesn’t work as well as the City Winery.
*edit to add* The City Winery has this management statement on the website that I had not noticed prior –
“CW Chicago is our 2.0. We learned a lot in NY and have improved the physical layout, the operational logistics, taken the best of our menu, programming, and put together an all-star management team. Very excited to open in August. — Michael Dorf, Founder and CEO”
Hopefully, the tight navigation of the room and the distraction of serving will be less intrusive and we can enjoy Lu and a wonderful meal.
LafayetteParticipantI just checked City Winery’s website and both shows have just been added. I called and was told pre-sale for members at present with tickets to general public on sale tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. (I assume CST).
LafayetteParticipantGood idea, stoger. I need some eyes and ears for a Chicago show —> off to start a Chicago City Winery thread.
We’ll keep you posted regarding facebook. 😛
