LafayetteParticipant
Welcome to the forum, Nick! I hope Lu makes it to your area soon – there’s nothing like one of her live shows.
LafayetteParticipantButch pitches “Booty Shakers” 8)
LafayetteParticipantThose videos are awesome!
Here is another – Car Wheels On A Gravel Road: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ykHZ1t7yGbI
LafayetteParticipantI’m so glad her personal items were returned! 😀
LafayetteParticipantLafayetteParticipantI have fingers crossed I will be crossing paths with stoger in Louisville. A wintry mix is forecast for Thursday in Louisville (Looville) as was here at home. That forecast today has changed to clear in my hometown, so more than likely I will be driving towards/ thru the wintry mix as I make my way south. We’ll see. It could all change in a few days. My car is all wheel drive but if it’s ice, AWD doesn’t help.
LafayetteParticipantThanks for the set list and report.
I have a special fondness for Port Arthur knowing we saw it’s birth in Cleveland . I posted to Lu’s facebook earlier today it was Janis’s birthday and suggesting it be penciled in for tonight. Silly me. TO and Lu are always on top of the game.
Awesome there is a suspect. Sad it was taken under said circumstances (because Lu didn’t remember someone?? Oy vey). I hope she gets her personal items back.
I’m looking forward to Thursday ~ Louisville bound! Wish I could have made Birmingham…
And, on a side note, I’ve been plugging in the set lists for this tour on setlist.fm, thanks in part to the FF and their input. I’m a numbers and statistics kind of gal. Love seeing the expanse of Lu’s catalog trotted out for this tour. Hopefully, they can be viewed with this link.

LafayetteParticipantGreat video and find, lwj. Now posted on my fb page. 8)
Also, while we wait for stoger’s report (I’m almost certain I remember him posting he would be in Dallas, over to Austin, and back to Dallas again), I found this blog on twitter, as I search for the missing purse and jacket, about the show last night and Lucinda’s influence and help for this fan and her family, through words and music.

Cartwheels on a Gravel Road
Dearest Lucinda (well, maybe I should call you Ms. Williams, but I bet you won’t mind)…Thank you SO MUCH for the amazing show you gifted us with in Dallas last night at the Kessler. I’ve been blessed to see you in person a handful of times over the years and your songs have helped me through some rough patches in my life, but last night, you were, honest to God, my healer!
I’m talking physically and emotionally, too.
I hope you have avoided all of the darn flus and colds going around this winter, but for some reason, I have been gifted with more than a few. This last one evolved into a nasty sinus infection and despite being on antibiotics for three days, I still feel miserable. Also, and I think it’s a combination of Nasonex and Sudafed, but I feel like a meth addict — nervous, unstable and ugly.
If I wasn’t addled enough by all that, we have a teenaged daughter to whom I sing regularly, “You took my joy and I want it back,” but not to her face of course. She’s an amazing person but she tests us a lot and she hates us a lot, which I guess means we are doing our job, but also shines a light on all of my parenting failures and, well, anyway….
There is no denying the power of music. As soon as you hit the stage, I felt 100 times better. Your presence was comforting to me and reminded me who I am and your songwriting is just poetry and it seriously healed me. And, you made me laugh, too, so thanks for that. I love your new songs, especially the one about how we can have all of these crappy things happen to us, but we can still find hope, looking at the world around us — “it’s a different story.”
I am always proud to tell people that our eldest’s (the teen I’m whining about) first real concert was seeing you at the State Fair of Texas. We listened to you all of the time, mostly in the car, as it was an era of road trips for our family. Her favorite song was, “Car Wheels on a Gravel Road,” which she sang as “Cartwheels on a Gravel Road,” at the top of her little lungs. I bet she is not the only kid who thought that is what you were saying. My husband and my friend, Susan, and I were excited to see what she would do seeing you in person. You were playing the main stage and even though she was not enchanted with the crowd, she eventually got down out of my arms and danced, her little knees bending, hands clapping, red curls bobbing around as you kicked it on stage.
So, sorry to ramble, I know you’re busy and thank you again, so much. For making me feel a lot better and giving me the gumption to keep going. I hope the rest of your tour is fantastic with no more crazy women stealing your purse, total freedom from any and all flus and colds and lots of time and inspiration for new songs.
God bless you, sweet girl,
AshleyLafayetteParticipantOh, Candy Apple Red was my favorite, for cars! The more metallic in the paint, the better. 😀
We’re on it. I keep checking the links and have even been trying to just do a general google search using different key words (to hopefully cover all the cities in TX) along with craigslist to see if I can pull up anything, but not much has been coming up trying to use that method.
LafayetteParticipantThanks, TO – it helps me with doing the craigslist search.
LafayetteParticipantTO – what type of purse? Color? Designer? Leather?

LafayetteParticipantIt stinks to high heaven. Craigslist needs to be checked as well. I’ll take a look there.
LafayetteParticipantWelcome HappyLu, to the friendly forum, and congratulations for coming out of lurk mode 😀 .
Great reports and I love the color commentary!
LafayetteParticipantLoony, you’re not, stoger. Yet.
The amazon link I provided has the song listing, and indeed, Dave Alvin, in the end, covered ’11 months, 29 days.’
LafayetteParticipantstoger – That would be Johnny Bush on the Paycheck tribute album.

Interesting enough, my first google search led me to a forum discussing the album’s concept.
http://musicworld.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=Country&action=display&thread=1385
Country legends, rockers, bluegrass artists, and alt-country darlings
will converge in Nashville in May and June to record “Touch My Heart,” a
benefit tribute cd honoring the late, great country music icon Johnny
Paycheck.“Touch My Heart” is the latest project of Robbie Fulks, country singer,
songwriter, and producer. Fulks is assembling an inspired and
unexpected roster of artists to join him in paying homage to the singing
and song writing genius of Paycheck. So far, the list of singers and
songs includes:Buck Owens, Take This Job and Shove It
Dallas Wayne, I Did the Right Thing
Dave Alvin, It Won’t Be Long (And I’ll be Hating You)
Gail Davies and Robbie Fulks, Shakin’ the Blues
Hank Williams III, I’m the Only Hell My Mama Ever Raised
Bobby Bare, Jr., Motel Time Again
Marshall Crenshaw, I’m Barely Hangin’ On To Me
Neko Case, If I’m Gonna Sink (I Might As Well Go to the Bottom)More artists will be announced soon.
The singers will be backed by some of country music’s most renowned
musicians. Lloyd Green, who contributed so memorably to Paycheck’s
Little Darlin recordings in the 1960s, will play steel pedal guitar.
Green will be joined by Redd Volkaert on lead guitar, Dennis Crouch on
bass, and Hank Singer on fiddle. Joe Terry and Gerald Dowd will play
piano and drums.David Cantwell, No Depression contributing editor, has agreed to write
liner notes.“Touch My Heart – The Johnny Paycheck Tribute” was first conceived, in a
grassroots way, by two music fans with an abiding appreciation for the
music of both Johnny Paycheck and Robbie Fulks. Fran Liscio (who has
provided financial backing for the project) and Liz Shepherd first
approached Fulks in the fall of 2002, to ask if he would be interested
in producing a Paycheck tribute that would not only celebrate Paycheck’s
lasting contributions to country music, but also help defray some of the
costs of his lengthy hospitalizations. Plans proceeded after Paycheck’s
death in February of 2003. Part of the proceeds from the cd will now go
to Paycheck’s estate.Fulks will secure a record label for the cd after its completion.
