Heh, stoger. You are of Irish descent. I’m convinced. 😀

…and I just checked her schedule, again, and she is playing a little bar in my neck of the woods on Feb 22. *pencils in*

lwj, Stoll played a set with her right before Christmas. He came home for the first time in a year and a half. Fortunately, I had the night open so my friend and I hit the road for Lexington. It was great seeing him – the last time was Atlanta 2 1/2 years ago when tnt and I surprised him.

The sad thing about the show for Angela is Stoll had the place packed with family and friends and by the time she took to the stage around 11:00, there was no one left. 😮 My friend and I stayed as long as we could but we had to get back on the road. I really loved what I heard. She hails from Columbus, OH, a 2 hour drive from me. It looked to me as if she was staying somewhat regional, however, with the release what looks to be a full length record, she is expanding her road trips. This Saturday she plays in Knoxville, the Blue Plate special, streamed live. I believe it’s noon and I think Knoxville is central time. http://www.wdvx.com/programs/blueplate.html

Here is one of several youtube Blue Plate Special videos from a previous performance.

    A killer set list.

Good find, lwj, and as always, your mind is razor sharp. I did not stay for last night’s show. Had I stayed, I probably would have looked meticulously haggard as well. 😯

I wasn’t sure who introduced both the Kenneth Brian Band or Lu but he mentioned the venue bottled a bottle of wine for Lu, with bottles available for purchase. This was sitting on the counter near the merch.

Were all three of those varietals (for $65 – a pretty penny for “house” wines! 😯 ) available with the Lu label? If not, then shame on them for bottling only the sauvignon blanc with the Lu label – a little bit of research would have revealed Lu is strictly a red wine gal! 😉

Just seeing her face on a bottle of white wine seems hopelessly out of place…

    Tom

I did not inquire if all three of the wines had the Lu label, HOWEVER, it was mentioned that Lu’s complimentary bottle was a sauvignon blanc. Yes, it looks very strange to see her beautiful face on a bottle of white.

I can also tell you individual glasses of wine were very steep in price.

It was a lovely venue. Table service was not all that distracting, but we had the first set of tables nearest the stage. We decided not to eat dinner beforehand as their initial reviews were not all that positive. However, we bumped into the Kenneth Brian Band as we came thru the door and they gave a glowing review on the food and their treatment by the Winery. I was impressed with their seating. My original purchase (3 tickets) had 2 seats together and separated by one seat was the third ticket. The venue put us together by moving me up to the seat that initially separated us.

Here is the full podcast link. Lots of great comments on twitter. I haven’t listened to it yet. Looks like it clocks in at an hour and 22 minutes!

The link will take you to a home page. Click on the pic of Lucinda which is currently on the bottom right hand of your screen. There were 172 people listening to the podcast when I was on the page – the most ‘listens’ of all the artists/news articles, etc. currently posted.

    A few added comments.

I loved this venue. It had a great vibe and Lu commented several times as such.

I’m not sure where Bitter Memory was played in the set as I was PM’ing with someone on facebook while I was recording the set list and invariably posted the song in our conversation. I do know it was played before Something Wicked.

I wasn’t sure who introduced both the Kenneth Brian Band or Lu but he mentioned the venue bottled a bottle of wine for Lu, with bottles available for purchase. This was sitting on the counter near the merch.

Oh, and I don’t know how I forgot this until I read following review – Lu throwing down the moves on Get Right With God. She was cutting a rug like I have never seen before. It was, well, you just had to have been there…

Lucinda used the phrase “clobberheaded nincopoomps” at some forgotten point in set, one borrowed from her dad.

I’m finally able to add a little additional color commentary to stoger’s rockin’ road report.

I was wondering how this show would pan out with it being held at a K – 12 independent school campus. Surprisingly, very nice, including the bar set up in the lobby with a few complimentary snacks on the table. I had a drink waiting for stoger as he came thru the door to atone for not properly notifying him on our meeting place. I forgot to hit ‘send.’ WHOOPS. In the end, all was well.

According to my notes, (I used my iphone, after checking with my neighbor), another “Happy Birthday” shout out after “World Without Tears” prompted a “This is going to be a fun night” comment from Lu. I knew the mojo was going to be good with said observation.

As stoger noted, Metal Firecracker had an elaborate intro, and I really liked this comment [generated lighthearted laughter] : “After we got off the Metal Firecracker, everything fizzled, but I got a great song out of it.”

Over Time was introduced with Lu noting she was honored and proud Willie Nelson recorded a version of it.

Apartment No 9 praise included insight that particular album the song was recorded was one in the rotation while she was growing up.

In my notes I wrote “No good count clobber headed nincompoop” as part of the “Jailhouse Tears” intro. 😆

After Changed The Locks, Lu notes the crowd is great, and “It never hurts to have a little Jack Daniels in the house.”

On “Jambalaya” Lu talked of honoring Hank Williams on this tour by trying to cover one of his songs at each of her shows, to honor Hank after his passing 60 years ago. She goes on to say he passed away on Jan 1, 1953 and she was born on Jan 26, 1953 with an added “And now you know how old I am and I don’t give a damn!”
