LafayetteParticipant
Never doubt Lucinda is a determined woman.
Surely, some lyrics will be meandering their way into a song from this trip. Lu has to be scribbling as there is no tomorrow.
I love her.
TO, thanks so much, again, for chronicling the ins and outs, the ups and downs, and the highlights of the day in the life of Lucinda Williams on the road. This one is definitely for the books.
LafayetteParticipantThis was a post by Anne on Facebook re: Audrey’s passing:
Audrey Auld: Larger than life, fire and rain, halcyon and hurricane.
I spent all week thinking about Audrey because I was travelling through Texas on pretty much the same route we had travelled together a few years ago. I was reflecting on how much I had learnt from Audrey about the road and about being your own person – who cares what people think; and play your music despite the music business! Put your head down and do the work, all else will follow.
We had the same quest – finding some truth and meaning in existence. We listened to Eckart Tolle’s ‘A New Earth’ and John O’Donohue’s ‘Anam Cara’ (True Friend) together on those long trips. We witnessed a terrible accident on Highway 59 which affected us profoundly.
Like all strong connections, it could be rocky, fiery, fierce, and loving. She knew there was a better me somewhere in that lost lamb and she told me so and although it hurt, she was right. She didn’t stand on ceremony. The expression ‘larger than life’ never fit so well.
This week I must have sensed her imminent journey, she was so on my mind and I spoke of her several times to others along the way. I’m glad she and Mez went back to the beach for her last days in this manifestation.
Life and death are the great mysteries. Living NOW is key. Audrey really LIVED. She lives on in our minds and hearts forever as those we love do.
Mez Mezera, Audrey was lucky to find you, you are so loved! XoxoxoxoLafayetteParticipantLu was ahead of her time…a Cougar long before it was cool.
I would love to know the back story of “Those Three Days.”
Thanks for all the reports, fellas!
P.S. I love Butch.
LafayetteParticipantJohn’s bromance with Bob. Gotta love it.
LafayetteParticipantAaaahhhhh, yes, love the semi Mellencamp quote, Viv!
LafayetteParticipantI was spitting nails that night, tonyg. 😀
LafayetteParticipantI did get to chat with her afterwards, actually I was talking her up before they went live, from my seat…and I had to name drop a little. 😆
During the conversation, I mentioned I had initially met her at Lu’s wedding reception. BTW, she wanted me to tell Lu and TO she says ‘Hello.’
I asked for a copy of their new CD, Restless Ones. They all signed it and I had my picture taken with her.
You can see the back of my head in the beginning. 😀 and my favorite music host, John Patrick is hosting. It was announced that day he had just been promoted to program director. Well deserved. Love that guy.
Here is “Gates of Dawn” from that show.
LafayetteParticipantSorry for the very delayed response, I was actually writing one while I was in flight on a trip to visit my sister, a very lengthy response, and the wifi signal was lost, as well as my post. 😡
I did make this show. It was weather wild, for sure. The gates were suppose to open at 5:30 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. start with Rachel Yamagata opening. Apparently, Rachel never opened as the venue held the gates until 7:00 p.m. because of the weather.
David Gray had the opening slot on this particular night. I was still in traffic – 2 lane rural road. It was moving slooooow. I stopped at the merch table and the merch guy mentioned another storm was coming in at 9:00 p.m. I made my way to my seat, and two songs later, the skies opened up with a light show on top, and they pulled the plug on David immediately. He was not happy.
The venue asked everyone to leave the immediate area and go to our cars, but told us they would finish the show. They did a great job keeping everyone posted via social media. Amos was even updating his page.
Finally, around 10:20 p.m. Amos hit the stage, after David Gray performed a solo acoustic version of ‘Babylon.” That was nice. Amos was thankful many of us stayed, said he was going to play all night as there was no curfew. That pipe dream ended almost as fast as he said it, his stage manager brought a piece of paper informing him show would end at 11:30.
Amos brought out Rachel to play a song since her set was nixed.
I was greatful the David Gray front row and center fans never returned after the downpour. I moved over about 8 seats and was a very happy fan that night, weather be damned.
LafayetteParticipantLong after the fact, but a preview article ran in a local paper.

LafayetteParticipantThanks for posting all the good stuff from FB, Tony!
LafayetteParticipantThose same lyrics bothered her the night she played it in Cincinnati in 2009. I’m still blown away by that gesture. I immediately thought of Lu when I heard about the tragedy in Lafayette.
Thanks for the report, stoger.I’ve been away way too long, making my way through the boards, ‘backwards.’ I read email the same way. 😕
LafayetteParticipantThanks, Viv! I just purchased a ticket!
So, this changes making a return trip for the AMAs a few weeks after this show.
Farm Aid is calling my name and I just can’t do it all… 😯
LafayetteParticipantViv, I was going to email you with the info on this show. As always, one step ahead.
Perhaps the members only tickets are all sold out? Public on sale is July 17.
LafayetteParticipantMy request was processed AND accepted! I’m going to be sitting in on an intimate acoustic performance as WNKU puts on it’s first LIVE LUNCH with the HB, tomorrow Friday, June 26.
The fun starts at Noon EST. Tune in:
