To think we have to wait another 2 days for a virtual Lu show report…

Can’t wait to hear about the setlist and ensuing characters met while road tripping with Lu and the band.

Buick 6 rocks in more than one way.

Thanks for posting set list. What was your take on the show? From photos I saw, it looked as though the tent was full.

Additional comments truly appreciated. It’s almost like being there. A virtual Lu show.

Lefty, I pronounce it as Lou.ah.ville, I believe many locals prefer to say Loo (as in LU).ville, and someone, like my friend from NJ, was pronouncing it as it is spelled, as in the name Louis.ville. I told her that was a first for me to hear. Also, Louie.ville is another take.

Cincinnati is the same way, I have heard it pronounced Cincinnat.ah, usually the older generation (as in much older than me) 🙂 .

Thanks, TNT, for your early report. Many “West” appearances lately. A two thumbs up on those selections.

Happy to hear you enjoyed Louisville. I consider Kentucky home, growing up about an hour and a half north of Louisville.

Safe travels to you and yours, stoger, and anyone else on the road to Missouri.

Looking forward to stoger’s additions to your report.

Photo gallery of Lu and band at Bonnaroo. She looked great, complete with cowboy hat and skirt. I also saw on twitter she apparently did a backstage type interview along side Justin Townes Earle, from a picture posted on twitterpic.

lafayette, that same “fan” who took the setlist is the same drunk i was talking about in my post, and i agree, totally uncool. if only i was a bit bigger i would have beat the crap out of him lol

Ha Ha! I was afraid of that! That “fan”, I swear, was not like that at all when I met him at The Southgate House. I was working a volunteer table at the Chris Smither show, he came over to check things out, so I asked him if he knew about Lu’s show in Covington (he was from Lexington). He said he didn’t but thanked me, saying he would check it out.

We ran into him beforehand and he remembered me, thanked me (again) for telling him about the show, and said had it not been for me, he wouldn’t have been there.

Uh, oh. Slap me. I’ll buy you a beer at the next show.

The person that reviewed this show tends to disagree with you. Rave review.

    Pre-Show:

I emailed WNKU afternoon music host, JP, the set list stoger posted from the previous night at “The Vogue” as talking points knowing he would be spinning songs to promote show. Sure enough, he spoke about “The Vogue” show with additional commentary about her setlists, playing a twofer…”Pineola” from “Live At The Fillmore” and Honey Bee.

Today, I called to thank JP for passing my name along to Bill Thompson, the reporter that wrote the preview and today’s “spot on” review of last night’s show. JP is a Lu fan but couldn’t make it. I told him it was a packed house, wonderful show. About 15 minutes after my call, he played “Unsuffer Me”, talked about the calls he was receiving about last night’s show, Lu playing to a packed house ;-).

    Missed Setlist Observations:

As Lu walked to the microphone to begin her set, she spotted stoger, smiled and said something (I couldn’t hear), immediately moved her lyrics stand to the side of her, clearing the view for our favorite reporter.

I may have the song incorrect, but I believe after “Unsuffer Me,” Eric received a smile and an approving kiss on the cheek from Lu.This was the song that stoger received one of those “WOW” looks from me. “Fancy Funeral” and “Joy” were additional standouts other than that “one” song.

A fan grabbed Lu’s setlist from the stage as she waited in the wings before her encore. So totally uncool, IMO, but, fortunately, she didn’t seem to notice…

    The SONG:

I was told afterward, that yes, the premiere of “Lafayette” on this leg of tour was for me(I’m trying to be humble here, really) for all the fan support as well as the back story with the article that ran in Sunday’s paper. I was told the band practiced the song together but not with Lu. If I have this correct (I just remembered) Lu was going to do solo acoustic but then opted to bring the band out. Beautiful rendition. Flawless. I was totally blown away by the gesture. A Grammy winning musician that doesn’t personally know a fan, reaches out to them with a song. Absolutely amazing and an event I will NEVER forget. Thank you TO for orchestrating, thank you Buick 6 for providing the beautiful instrumentation, and above all, thank you LU for reaching out to this fan with a song where it all began for me. I’m still in awe!

stoger, thank you for the friendship and reaching out to me at that Atlanta show. Sharing the music with fellow fans always makes it all the more special and…fun.

    Afterthoughts:

Stevarino, not sure what happened with you, I hope all is well. I didn’t see you at the show and you haven’t checked in here all that much. I know you are a true blue Lu fan. BTW. Chez (pronounced sha with a long a 😆 )Nora was certainly the spot. The best balsamic vinaigrette dressing on a salad I have ever had! The provided Dylan soundtrack added to the ambiance. Will have to check out the rooftop view next time.

I agree, TonyG, excellent report, jolo. Unfortunate events for you. There’s one or two or three or four in every crowd. I do, however, look forward to your photos and video footage!

I have much to report, unfortunately, I am having either connectivity issues or computer issues, not sure which. The words I am typing are not catching up on a real time basis . There’s a major a delay. I’m close to throwing the computer across the room. HA!

Yes, it was truly a magical night. I hope to write something up later this evening.

Stoger, we are so spoiled having you as the “official” tour chronicler that when there is even one show that apparently no one from the forums attended to post a setlist / report, it seems like an aberration when, in fact, without your reports, it would be the norm. Thanks again for a great report. And, what a varied setlist – I think Lu is mixing it up so well just for you… 😉

    Tom

Bring your rain slicker, stoger, the flipping forecast is nothing but RAIN.

Thanks for the show report and setlist. I was logging in early this morning, waiting, with even more intensity. Having Lu in one’s backyard does that.

If by chance you read this before you depart for Covington, as you near the Ohio state line and veer down I 74 (i’m assuming this will be your route) tune into WNKU 89.7. I’m sure JP, the afternoon host, will be playing a tune or two of Lu’s and talking about tonight’s show. I love, love the music he spins.

As I wait on Stoger’s Indianapolis setlist and show report, I saw this awesome tweet about tonight’s show. Hell, yeah!

NightjarSongs “hasn’t seem The Vogue that packed for a concert in awhile. Tuesday night no less. Thanks Lucinda Williams.”

While I’m twittering, I’ll throw this gem in as well.
