I found a sponsored link to “The Village” as I logged into my MS account.

One minute clips of all the artists involved in this project. Lu sounds amazing! AND Amos Lee 😀 and Shelby Lynn and Mary Chapin Carpenter and…

    @tntracy wrote:

“What is it about the simple, earlier songs that people are drawn to?” she asked rhetorically.

It’s like the line “My brother knows where the best bars are” from “Crescent City” – a simple lyric that everyone seems drawn to (I know I am), shouting it out in unison when Lu sings it… 😉

Yes, thanks for the link, Lafayette…

    Tom

The 5 ladies behind me at the Bloomington show were telling me beforehand they wanted to hear “Crescent City”. During the show, they kept yelling for it, and by the middle of the set, the yells were turning into slurs. 😆 I wonder if they, too, would have shouted out that line ❓

Great setlist with lots of aaahs from me including “Tears of Joy” for Tom and the proposal on stage not to mention ” I Am So Happy I Found You” finding it’s way back into setlist. 🙂

I know this is the 30th Anniversary Tour, maybe it could be dubbed the 30th Anniversary Honeymoon Tour. That certainly could have unsuspecting fans scratching their heads.

Hope you feel well stoger. Friend to friend advice, pack your jacket for NYC. Could be chilly in the night air.

Erika and company pulled the crowd.

    http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20090926/ENT03/309260028/

No bar was busier than Grammer’s, the site of Cincinnati expatriates the Heartless Bastards’ set. There was a line through the parking lot out to Liberty Street as the rock band took the stage beneath Grammer’s outdoor tent. And when those folks got in, they discovered beer lines nearly as long. McCabe estimated the crowd between 800-1,000 people.

Now based in Austin, Tex., the Heartless Bastards are three-CDs-deep into their busy, successful career, and they’ve been touring with the Decemberists and Andrew Bird among others this year. The earlier material, recorded as a three-piece band, was reinvigorated thanks to the fourth and newest member, guitarist Mark Nathan. Lead singer Erika Wennerstrom’s witchy wail is still the band’s predominant distinction, but Nathan balanced out everything, whether adding lead runs on a pounding version of Junior Kimbrough’s “Done Got Old” or providing counterpoint to Wennerstrom’s keyboards on “Into the Open.”

Thanks for posting syrah and reindeers!

Looks like we’re 4 for 4 on this leg of tour. Stoger should make it 5 for 5 tonight?

Not sure if this is the clip on the site you spoke of, Tom, but I did find this on YouTube.

Plan To Marry / I’m So Happy I Found You …it doesn’t get any better than this.

The solo parts were great, Tom, in “Nothin’ But Ramblin”, absolutely. I think it was during this song Lu was doing the “I’m in awe” wave to them. I might also add the band is so very tight now. They are having fun on stage compared to when Doug was playing. Eric (I love him) was all smiles that night.

Don’t get me wrong about the setlist, it wasn’t a total disappointment. I was just being selfish wanting to hear the Hank song again! Clearly, it was an energetic crowd (with Buick 6 as well) I also would like to add a few other things that I didn’t include in my initial report. When I go to shows, especially if I’m by myself, I like to find out why other fans are there as well. Hence, my conversation with the 5 ladies behind me. After I made it up to the “2nd row”, almost to the end of the show, I overheard this one lady tell her friend that the show was the best they had ever seen (of any artist).

Lastly, as I was watching Lu play, I could only think of something my one Mellencamp friend says all the time while watching JM play (we always tell her to affectionatley “shut up already.)” She is always saying ” I love him” lol.

So, as I was watching Lu that night, all I could think was… “I just love her” and how my Mellencamp friends would be telling me affectionately to “shut up already.”

Funny about the concern over the voice change. Mellencamp said in an interview during his “Words and Music” tour (a compilation of his greatest hits) that the young John Mellencamp wasn’t taking into account the old John Mellencamp would be singing those early songs one day and what was he thinking writing in such a high key 😉

See you in Chicago. Looking forward to those shows, especially the “West” night 😉

    Lisa,
I don’t think I can make it tonight (under the tent!) I even told Erika (if she remembers 😆 ) I would see her, however, it’s best I stay home, between going to Minneapolis and Bloomington the past week, I dont want to rock the boat at home. Maybe Stevarino could give us a report? You will have to represent (us) when you see her. Be sure to buy her a Guiness, from all here in the friendly forum.

I like my ham sandwich with spicy mustard and muenster cheese on wheat bread.

WOW. I cannot believe Erika’s vocals compared to her speaking voice. Blows my mind.

How did you like all the Lucinda shout outs? * I heard you were at the wedding* double wink 😉 😉
Along with taking the interview out with “Are You Alright?” JP loves Lucinda too, can you tell?

A reminder to listen to WNKU in the 1:00 p.m EST hour as Erika is scheduled for an On Air to promote her Mid Point Music Festival appearance tonight.

This article has photo of Lu from last night and I have to say, probably the best part of this article. It’s not very well written IMO. BTW…Lu had some rocking cowboy boots on. Black with silver studs all over. Hoo boy, they were awesome.

Very detailed and informative report, Disco Stu. I’m feeling the pressure now. Bloomington’s setlist slightly disappointing (but not the performance!) compared to Milwaukee’s. I’m off to start a thread.

Consider the Lu photo a wedding gift of sorts. I’m so happy you have a Lu memory you will cherish for years to come. Oh, and a little bragging with your former college professor is an added bonus.

Caroline, welcome again with your posts! See, you just say **** it and post 🙂 in the friendly forum. No pressure.
