I only had the time to FF through the show, I plan on listening tonight as well, later, after everyone goes to bed.

There is a lull with band stuff going on, indecision, switching instruments , whatever, and there is complete silence, so the commentator starts talking as if it’s a golf tournament…something Like “O.K. Lucinda is strapping on her guitar…” You have to hear it to appreciate what i found as humorous.

How do you like the color commentary with the announcer? 😆

Info on the movie and soundtrack:

You could wait for “Crazy Heart” to be released on DVD, but unless you own a superb sound system, you’ll miss part of what makes this movie so good.

With original music written by T Bone Burnett and Stephen Bruton, plus songs from the likes of George Jones, Lucinda Williams, Townes Van Zandt and Ryan Bingham who appears in the movie as the leader of a back-up band, the soundtrack breathes authenticity.

Thanks, tnt, I am pleased you found the blog fascinating as it was truly fascinating for me to be visiting all of Lu’s suggested places and then some. Lwj- You’re welcome!

A few things I didnt mention, more on a personal level, as the blog was really long and probably more than a blog, is on the day of the game, we went to the Garden District to visit our friends, as was mentioned, however, our tailgating plans at the mansion they rented were “keboshed” by the owners of the home. I suppose they feared major damage could ensue. The Bearcats had an official tailgating event at the HOB so we went there after our visit. Dollar beers (for the tailgaters) and good service. As you all might recall, Lucinda played HOB last February. I ended up asking to see the peformance area, so one of the servers took me over and showed me. General admission with a balcony area. Lu’s type of venue.

Also, as we were walking around on Saturday afternoon, taking in Jackson Square and the river area as well as the Lu tour, we went inside St. Louis cathedral. My father in law is a devout Catholic attending Mass every week, so he was happy to see they had a Saturday afternoon service. My husband decided to take our son back to the room to hang, he was bored, and I stuck around the Quarter with my in-laws. We went to Pat OBriens’ for a hurricane to kill some time before Mass. I joined them at Mass, a little late, as I went to Koko’s Gallery first. Let’s just say, Mass is a lot easier to get thru after a hurricane. 😯 The priest actually delivered a really interesting liturgy and even mentioned all the Bearcat fans in attendance. He said he could tell between them and the regular congregation, the fans all sat in the back! That’s where I was sitting… 😀

My husband and I walked around the Quarter one night, past one of the ghost tours. We overheard one tour guide say the Quarter boasted over 500 bars in a 15 block area. That’s a good line for a song, don’t you think? 😉

I hope when Lu hits the tour circuit again she returns to NOLA. I am so there, if the stars align.

I have found a cleaner looking blog format so I took the oportunity to repost the NO trip with typos corrected and cleaned up and tried to condense some of the grammar stuff. The format is much easier to read than the prior.

The new blog is “Circling Around The Moon”, a Mellencamp title reference and a good description of what life could be (for me) and has been experienced in the past.

Ray talks about performing “Fruits Of My Labor” with Lu. Short and very sweet clip.

I would be more than happy to forward Lu’s handwritten NO lists to anyone interested. Hopefully, webmasta can master uploading these gems. I gasped an OMG when TO forwarded them to me. Lu included places, addresses, opening dates and times, not to mention her personal recollections. Priceless.

PM me with your email address and I will happily pass along, especially since it has the TO seal of approval.

lwj ~ The photo on the blog was taken after a Mellencamp show in Omaha, Nebraska, sharing a drink with my husband and some buds. We had M & G passes through the fan club for that evening with the band members, hence the shirt, adorned with a skull and guitar and “I’m With The Band.” I picked it up in Disney at the Rock and Roll roller coaster gift shop, you know, where, after you exit a ride there is always a gift shp with “stuff” to purchase? The pin is a vintage photo badge of John. I’m glad you enjoyed the links on the blog.

I have finished my NOLA recap following in Lu’s footsteps. I would still like to add a few pics to the blog, however, I have been working on this all morning. and ready to call it a day on blogging. I am going to do some sort of photo album and hopefully provide a link to that as well. Apologies for the small print. I’m unfamiliar with personal blogging, signed up for this one through wordpress, and as far as I can tell, unless I do a paid upgrade, the font provided is the font I have to use. Very small and not for old eyes. You’ll need your reading glasses for sure, if you’re in my age bracket 😆

That’s funny stuff lwj, the Hudy video, that is.

I wasn’t surprised at the outcome of the game, but yeah, we had some choice words after Shayne Graham missed those two short range field goals and Palmer just couldn’t make any completions. There is something going on with Palmer, he typically is a stellar quarterback, but the past 5 or 6 games he has struggled.

We had fun. My brother was texting me during the game, telling me the crowd, at least in the beginning, sounded loud !

BTW…i watched short clips of the HB at Southgate House. You’re right, sound quality was terrible, however, Erika was kicking it with her performance! I regret I had to miss this performance. Hoping to catch them in 2010.

Thank, you, lwj for the weather update. My DH just went out for a toasty toes 10 pack and I’ll take every degree warmer Mother Nature will provide.

I’m hoping for a win, but not counting on it. If this team played as they did against Pittsburgh earlier in the season, I would be convinced we could pull it off, however, as of late, they just haven’t had game. NONETHELESS, I’m headed to Paul Brown Stadium to watch the Bengals in a playoff game. I also quoted some wrong statistics earlier too. I had a DUH moment. The Bengals were in a wildcard playoff game against Pittsburgh in 2006, when early in the game, Carson Palmer suffered a serious knee injury. I should remember, I was at that game! We lost.

Look for a lot of handoffs to Cedric Benson and a lot of boos from the crowd wanting Ocho Cinco for the receive.

WHO DEY! I’ll check out the HB videos later!

    Hi Sandy!

I’m hoping to have the trip details up in the next few days. I have some great recommendations for you (and folkblues), courtesy of TO and Lu.

I’m ready to go back to NO soon, however, I don’t envy your trip to Minneapolis at present. It’s cold here where I live, looks worse up north…

Happy New Year to you as well!

I was very surprised HB didn’t make it into the top 5 on WNKU’s Top 89 albums ofthe year list. However, they did secure the #10 spot.

I’m back! We returned late last night to frigid temps and some snowfall. We had a great time, despite the humiliating loss. To answer a few commments I’ve been seeing in various threads. It’s a little late to respond, and I doubt the cameras panned to our group, however, lwj, we were seated in section 124, the corner of the end zone where the cheerleaders and the mascot were on the field. TNT, I found out New Orleans locals don’t care for Florida, with LSU being an SEC team. They were rooting for UC. We were 23,000 fans strong, and the locals were loving it.

Last year we went to the Orange Bowl and this year to the Sugar Bowl. I have to say, the Sugar Bowl was so much better, so much more fun with everything within walking distance of the Dome.

I’ll write a little report in a few days, once I get settled in.

Drunken Angel, it is way cool, isn’t it?

I was going to ask, after you posted the 2 addresses, if she could remember the address of her $75 a month row house/apartment she rented/shared (I believes she spoke of this on one of the live CD’s or maybe it was an interview) but thought she might think it too creepy to ask that. However, if she is enjoying it, could you ask her that one, too? 😀 I will take pics of the Lu sites and post to a flickr site when I return.

If anyone is watching the game, we have tickets in the lower section of the dome, 24 rows up, in the corner of one of the end zones. I doubt there will be TV coverage in that section but you never know. Tonight, the local news was showing fans and players at the team hotel in NO, and a free concert by the Gin Blossoms, in the pouring rain.

I”m excited to be going to the game, and even more so to be exploring Lu’s early career roots! Walking in Lu’s footsteps and seeing how she first earned her wings, I find mesmorizing and a way to connect even more to her words and music. For instance, I have driven over Lake Ponchartrain on our last visit several years ago. A former neighbor moved there and we drove across the lake to visit them while we were there. That’s one big *ss lake. Now, when I hear Lu sing about Lake Ponchartrain, it takes me back to that trip.

Tom, please tell Lu mucho thanks for the list!

Apparently, another admirer of Lu’s “Positively 4th Street” cover, as written:

    http://www.vueweekly.com/article.php?id=13928

“Authorship is merely some of the point of these kinds of records, which generally serve as a mixtape declaration of self-congratulatory taste that doubles-down on the references: “Not only do I dig Bob Dylan, I dig Lucinda Williams doing Dylan. Booyah!”

Weighing in with Dylan are heavies like Rickie Lee Jones, confident stylist Shelby Lynn and the aforementioned Williams, wielding little but her rough-diamond voice, liquid guitar and a big ol’ bag of hurt.”

…”her liquid guitar”. I love that analogy!
