I was wondering how the show went. I’m glad you found additional music to add to your ipod!

I tuned in today to my favorite NPR station. CLICK. First song I hear is a duet and on first listen my thoughts were it’s Lu! Before the song ended I knew it was her (and her unforgettable, unique, and endearing twang.) I was not familiar with the song and embarrassed to say not familiar with the artist either, when named, until I googled him. Then I recognized one of his penned classics, “Polk Salad Annie.”

I don’t see this duet on your guest appearances list on initial scan, however, I could have overlooked.

“Closing In On The Fire” Tony Joe White / Lucinda Williams

The mojo is happening in this tune.

As I was casting my vote for Barq’s Root Beer and relaying a brown cow was one of my favorite childhood treats, I immediately thought of a local children’s television show I use to watch and how Barq’s soft drinks were advertised on the show (in house commercials).

I found the “Uncle Al” show on wiki, perused the page, and sure enough, it mentions Barq’s “soft drinks.”

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Uncle_Al_Show

Barq’s Soft Drinks: This was when Barq’s had other flavors besides just root beer; they also had orange, grape, lemon-lime and cream soda flavors as well. Wanda would sing the jingle while she and an assistant served drinks to the kids. Whereas vanilla ice cream and root beer was a root beer float, other Barqs flavors over vanilla ice cream would result in “Purple Cows” (grape); “Orange Cows” (orange); and so on.

AND, to get this thread back on track, I need to post my photos from my NOLA trip with the Lu places I visited.

JM’s fan club does work very hard to get best available tix for presale. It doesn’t happen all the time. For instance, he is headlining a festival in WI and the best seats available thru fan club were in row 15 as tickets had already been sold before JM was added to festival.

Casino shows are tricky as well, from what I have been told. You are very lucky you are close to venue to purchase tickets. I just wanted to forewarn you JM’s shows are short, have been ever since he had his heart attack.

GO, lwj, just GO! I will be so jealous, but in a good way ! AND, you never know, I can always change my mind as the show draws closer. 😀

I haven’t heard anything about opening artist, but he typically has an opening act.

I just received Pollstar notification on this show as well! I would love to attend…what a ticket! I had tentative plans to be in LA the month of August, however, they have fallen to the wayside. Fingers crossed this does turn into a fall tour.

My fall may be very busy…Lucinda, JM and Amos Lee all expected to release records this fall!

HA! Barq’s Root Beer, over ice cream…a brown cow! My favorite as a child.

WOW, not sure what is going on, lwj with those ticket prices.

Interesting the dates were changed on presale. I wonder if it has anything to do with John’s fan club and possibility of presales. At present, it appears JM’s fan club is in transition. My membership has not been renewed, we as fans are being told things are changing, and we just need to hold tight. Maybe they are working the details out for possible presale. Just not sure. I do know the fan club president posted this response after I suggested it looked like a tour was shaping up for summer.

“The July dates (and I am told there will be a handful to go with Cadott WI) will not be many in number and won’t be very much of a tour. Just a little Summer Work so to speak before the bigger tour in the fall.”

Long story short, HA! (now I say that)…if you want to see JM, lwj, the Toronto date is your best bet. I would hope he would make it back to Canada in the fall (he really enjoyed his tour up there a few years ago), but you just never know.

I’m disappointed ticket prices are so very high. JM was a former champion of keeping ticket costs low…not sure if he is losing his way or not.

Edit to add… membership sign up is free which qualifies one for presale HOWEVER tickets are only sold on site at casino for presale.

Ticket prices START at $85. I knew that was too good to be true at a casino. Not sure where the ticket prices peak for these shows.

Maybe TO will weigh in on AMA, however, I thought I had read this event wasn’t exactly to Lu’s liking?

I have always wanted to go to AMA conference but it is usually near Farm Aid concert where I invariably end up spending my music entertainment $$$.

No, lwj, I decided against getting tickets for now. DH told me he would rather just wait to see Neil at Farm Aid. HOWEVER, I may look as it gets closer to the date and if I decide to go, try to pick up tickets closer to the date.

I am woman, and subject to changes of heart and mind, at any given moment. 😯

I saw Holly last night in Nashville, TN as an opening act. She played a 30 minute solo acoustic set providing great details about her songs as well as personal musings. I found her intriguing and several of her songs hit home for me, one of them was “Mama,” as mentioned by tnt.

“Mama” obviously was written about her mother, citing her as a strong woman who refused to instill hate into her children’s hearts after her and Hank Jr. divorced. She mentioned her Mother often comes up on stage to sing the song with her.

Another song I found extremely pivoting was one about her and her sister’s near fatal wreck. I had remembered reading about the accident with a few blurbs mentioned in the news. The near fatal wreck was 4 years ago, her sister was clinically dead for 10 minutes, and has endured over 26 surgeries including 4 hip replacements. She said they were told she would never walk, however, today she is managing on a cane. The name of the song is “Without Jesus Here With Me.”

She covered a John Prine song claiming he is one of her favorite singer songwriters as well as a Gillian Welch song.

She also told us she was recently married.

Enjoyable set. I really wanted to go chat with her at the merch booth as she told us she would be signing CDs at intermission, however, I was front and center at the stage and did not want to leave my super spot. 8)

tnt, she is coming to Atlanta on April 14.

On her website is a great audio interview that launches immediately, discussing the new record.

See the link, box office sales will be determined by lottery.
People must stand in line no earlier than one hour before tickets go on sale, no camping and leave no garbage.
    Click for details.
Getting into a concert now seems so complex.
Here is the Ryman link for NEIL.

p.s. I don’t think I’ll fly down to Nashville tonight to stand in line.

WOW. I should have persevered and looked further. I was disappointed in those ticket prices after only going to Louisville site.

Not going to believe this one, but I am going to Nashville today ❗ to see Amos tonight! I will be able to line up to get in lottery. Of course, theoretically, this will end up costing more with gas and hotel. 😕 over just going to Louisville, where I wouldn’t have to stay overnight.

You are so right lwj. Ticket prices are outrageous. I’ll wait and see him at Farm Aid.

    $245 high end, $125, and $85 respectively.

I will check out his opening act, tonyg.
