The things you learn on facebook. Apparently, Metal Firecracker was requested for a majority of the shows? How did I miss that?

Very cool! Long Beach had the most requests, by far. It appeared the requests were “all over the map,” not one standing out as a constant. 2 Kool, Crescent City, and I Just Wanted To See You So Bad would have been my shout outs.

By the way Lafayette, do you have a good seat at the Ryman ?
    lwj

Well, I am told any seat at the Ryman is a good seat 😀 , however, not sure where I am sitting. I ordered online, just the other day, through AMA website. I wasnt given a seat location but ticketmaster’s tickets were row U about the same time. I saved a few dollars going through AMA site (no ticket fees!)

You are a super sleuth, lwj! I’m doing the “I’m not worthy” wave.

The awards ceremony on Thursday, according to the AMA home page, will be carried on XM radio, BBC2, & Voice of America. I, for the life of me, cannot find the XM station. I thought maybe some of the friendly forum members would be interested in tuning in. The show begins 6:30 p.m CDST.

lwj…this has your name written all over it (to find the XM station broadcasting the show). You are, after all, a Lu super sleuth. 😀

The Honors & Awards are presented by the Gibson Foundation. Jim Lauderdale will continue his tenure as master of ceremonies, joined for another year by Buddy Miller and his all-star house band. More than 2,000 artists, music lovers and industry executives attend the annual show, which is broadcast internationally via Sirius/XM Radio, BBC2, and Voice of America.

lwj…do you have time to investigate? Thought it would be cool for friendly forum members to tune in, if they so desire.

A blog listing all the presenters at the AMA’s, including Lu…and JM opens! 😀

Interesting question posed by Mellencamp’s publicist, according to this blog. “No Better Than This” debuted in the top 10 Billboard, the 10th of his career. Mellencamp’s publicist posed the query…When was the last record, recorded in mono, that debuted in Billboard’s Top 10 ?

    http://www.bostonherald.com/blogs/entertainment/guestlisted/?p=395&srvc=home&position=recent

John Mellencamp’s PR guy put this question out to rock writers:

“Was just having a conversation with a friend and the Billboard Top 10 debut of John Mellencamp’s ‘No Better Than This’ album came up. Mentioned that it’s John’s tenth Top 10 album and that it’s offered only in mono which begged the question: What was the last mono-only album that debuted in Billboard’s Top 10? We’re thinking it must have been over 40 years ago as albums were offered in both stereo and mono from the late 1950s onward. Any suggestions?”

I’m thinking the answer would be something by the Beatles. But not the Beatles 40 years ago. The Beatles albums re-issued on CD last year were released in both stereo and mono versions. I just don’t know if any of the mono discs made the Top 10.

BTW…he, according to another article, will be opening the AMA awards show at the Ryman…next week! I have a Lu/JM countdown…7 days! Sept 9 also marks 30 years to the day I saw JM open for The Kinks at UC’s Fieldhouse in Cincinnati…that’s a long time. Will have to celebrate 😉

I am going to temporarily hijack this thread. EVERYONE knows you just don’t put cheese on a hotdog without chili between the dog and the cheese.

    http://www.skylinechili.com/

My sister and her two boys recently visited from L.A. (her last visit was three years ago) and the first request, unanimous on all three counts, on the drive home from the airport, was to stop at Skyline chili.

I’ll have to deliver some Skyline chili dogs to Butch the next time he’s in our friendly city.

Yes Lu will be presenting a lifetime achievement or something like that to Luke Lewis who is the president of Lost Highway/Universal Nashville records. Out of all the artists he could’ve asked, Lucinda was his first choice and she is very honored to be able to do it. She will also be doing a song during the ceremony on Thurs (which just has to fall on the night of Vikings/Saints game). On Fri night Lu will be doing something-it will probably be a live interview with Bob Harris from the BBC with attendees able to ask questions also. Lucinda will probably do acoustic versions of a couple new songs also. This isn’t quite finalized and it could change, but more than likely this is what she will be doing.

Thanks, TO, for the update! Helps with planning.Exciting & excellent! I’m there! Love hearing she is honored and touched by Luke’s request.

The Bob Harris thing is very cool as well.

In regards to the Vikings/Saints game, I have no idea if Lu follows sports, however, if she does, and the Overbys were at home, a Vikings/Saints matchup would be cause for some friendly banter, I would imagine. 😀

lwj, in regards to my football card, so far, I think I am only going to miss one game, and that is UC’s homecoming game late October. JM opens in Bloomington the night before, and a tour opener in his adopted hometown, is not to be missed.

I may be driving all night from Nashville or up early in the AM to make it to UC’s season opener on Sept 11. I’ll miss the tailgating festivities, but that’s okay, it will be worth it. Then, later that evening, we have tickets for Over The Rhine at Moonlight Gardens. I will probably need a week to recover.

Ah, but TO mentioned in a different thread some September shows may be in the works. Has that been canned or did you miss that, tnt?

The one I remember being mentioned before was a one-off deal in Florida, but TO told me tonight that fell through…

    Tom

Well, then, it sounds like (almost) undivided attention towards getting the album released.

I’m throwing caution to the wind, have booked a room for 2 nights for Nashville, and attending the awards ceremony. I wasn’t initially going to go to this event, even with it being a who’s who of Americana artists, UNTIL Lu was added. My thoughts were JM wouldn’t perform with him receiving an award, but with these types of shows you never know, right? Not to mention, he is receiving an award for lifetime achievement in songwriting. I would think he is humbled in receiving it. Now, with Lu being added as a presenter (to mystery recipient), it’s icing on the cake! Done deal. AND the lineup? Stellar.

Thanks tnt, for responding with your “inside” info.

It is doubtful, as TOverby has mentioned previously that this little West Coast “mini tour” will almost assuredly be it for the rest of the year, as they have to focus on getting the new album released…
