LafayetteParticipant
Amos Lee with Willie Nelson & Mickey Raphael. Amos played around 2:30 in the afternoon & Amos was the first artist Willie performed with. Willie appears on this song on Amos’s upcoming record.
Amos had a lot of technical issues during his set.
LafayetteParticipantCongrats, tnt! You’ve been on a roll of late 😉
LafayetteParticipantA really great summary of Farm Aid 25 in USA today.

LafayetteParticipantThanks, tnt! Each year is more magical than the year before.
Here is another photo gallery, including some of the press conference.

LafayetteParticipantOh, I may have to get this hat! Love it.
I’ll start a Farm Aid 25 thread with a great photo link. I’m spent for now so it will be very brief update. One of the better lineups I’ve attended. This was my 7th FA since 2003. I missed 2004 when Lu made her appearance.
LafayetteParticipantI’ll give a big “WOOT” on this news.
Strange, I have had Essence for a long time, got it out to play on our 7 hour ride home from Farm Aid, and there is a photo, as I’m sure many of you are aware, but somehow slipped by me, of Lu’s “desk”, the kitchen table, coffee cup, tape machine, lyrics on writing pad, etc. Made me think about the possible release of the “Kitchen Tapes” and voila! .
LafayetteParticipantAha…now we have the answer. The lincvolt was parked outside the hotel Neil was staying and one of the mellenheads was checked into same hotel. He saw the car, said he was talking to Neil’s son about it, and pushing even further wanting to know about Neil’s train collection. 😆 This was on Friday evening, before he joined us for dinner.
A press conference is held before the Farm Aid concert. We arrived at the venue about 15 minutes before it started. This particular press conference was set up where we could watch from afar, which isn’t typical, so we planted ourselves on a hillside where the board members, i.e. John, Willie, & Neil were arriving, fairly close . It was a ballfield (maybe a practice field?) outside of Miller Park. Anyway, after the press event, they started walking over to the cars & a few fans rolled out a welcome farm aid 25 sign and Neil ran over to sign it. He was the only artist to do so. John looked like he was going to but changed his mind.
As far as seeing the car, we missed it! I had no idea it was there.

Yeah, the Bardavon is in Po’town (aka Poughkeepsie, NY). About 3 hours away from yours truly. A much longer haul for LWj. I was supposed to see Ms Williams last year there, but extenuating circumstances nixed that deal. A great place to see a show, I’m told.
Okay, now I remember. I thought the venue sounded familiar. Hope you get to see LU next time, Lefty.
lwj, I would still hold out to see Amos in an intimate venue.
Also, lwj, look for a few girls in the 6th & 7th row wearing cheap straw cowboy hats and and a few sporting John Mellencamp siggies tattoed on a major portion of their arm(s). That would be us.
LafayetteParticipantlwj…is this show near you? Didn’t Lu play this venue recently? last year or so?

LafayetteParticipantExcellent video (and find!), lwj, of “Scarecrow” at Farm Aid in 1985. I may just use that for the mellenblog this week. 😉
A little trivia in regards to one of the lines in the song. John is a fan of old movies, in particular, he was a big James Dean fan and Paul Newman as well. One of the lines in “Scarecrow” was influenced by “Cool Hand Luke.”

Boss: Sorry, Luke. I’m just doing my job. You gotta appreciate that.
Luke: Nah – calling it your job don’t make it right, Boss.Scarecrow:
The crops we grew last summer weren’t enough to pay the loans;
Couldn’t buy the seed to plant this spring and the Farmers Bank foreclosed.
Called my old friend Schepman up to auction off the land;
He said John it’s just my job and I hope you understand.
Hey, calling it your job, ol’ hoss, sure don’t make it right, lwj, there will be many Mellenheads in the 6th row. We all purchased VIP seats through Farm Aid and they put us together, a few in the 7th row as well. It’s suppose to be c-o-l-d. Thank goodness for the retractrable roof at Miller Ballpark. The Brewers will be playing the Cincinnati Reds that weekend, in Cincinnati, where by and by, we should be in a holding pattern for the playoffs…first time in 15 years! The city is jazzed.
Our schedule is jam packed today. Once again, no time to tailgate. My son has a soccer game this afternoon. Hopefully, next home game I can take some photos. Our grillmaster has been on ESPN two seperate times, for those occasional games they would cover UC, grilling sausages he buys from a historic outdoor market, Findlay Market, in Over The Rhine. Have fun searching all about Findlay Market, lwj. 😉 😉 😉
The rate this team is going, next year may not bring any ESPN coverage. 😆 I look for it to be ugly today for the Bearcats.

I love backstories, and this song has a great one.
September 24, 2010 at 6:46 pm in reply to: A Hot Night In Fayetteville, Part Deux (9.20.2010) #44443LafayetteParticipantHere is “Port Arthur” formerly known as “Difficult Child” for those not around when I posted last November.
As a sidenote, TO told us Lu was writing this song backstage at the Janis Joplin Tribute event as part of the RR HOF series. As the story goes, Lu only finished this song 10 minutes before she stepped on the stage.

TO, if you decide to add “Port Arthur” as a bonus track, I hope you would consider to put in parentheses (A Tribute to Janis Joplin). It could be a flag, forJoplin fans and fans of music, to hear this amazing song.
September 24, 2010 at 4:26 am in reply to: A Hot Night In Fayetteville, Part Deux (9.20.2010) #44442LafayetteParticipantOh, I love the idea of the “kitchen tapes” offered as a deluxe set!
Please, please put “Port Arthur” on “Blessed” as an added bonus track. It’s amazing!
September 21, 2010 at 1:43 pm in reply to: A Hot Night In Fayetteville, Part Deux (9.20.2010) #44428LafayetteParticipantGreat, great post!
I noticed the railroad crossing sign next to the venue . It looks like those train tracks are very close to “George’s”??
Fantastic setlist! I heard the recorded version of “Port Arthur” on the music loop before the Bob Harris interview. It’s an incredible song, and hearing it from its inception at the Janis Joplin tribute show, I teared up a little on the inside listening to it (and that’s so NOT me). I wish it had made the cut for “Blessed.” Hopefully, we will hear it on the next record, or even a boxed set would suffice. 😀
LafayetteParticipantHopefully Amos will get close to you when the record releases and he tours behind it. I would think he will be out on the road to promote. Hold out for him headlining in an intimate venue. He has played The Ark in Ann Arbor in the past.
Farm Aid will be airing on DirecTV beginning at 6:00 p.m. which equates to about the time (I would think) Kenny Chesney hits the stage.
The webcast on the FA website should be awesome.
Look for us, we have 6th row center seats.
