Wow-Are you reading my email? I just confirmed the N.O. Jazzfest for 5/5 this afternoon. Quite a coincidence that you would inquire on the very day it was made official.
I also confirmed another show today- 5/8 in Houston as part of the International Festival.
    More dates coming.

😆 Sometimes I can channel but, yeah, this is bizarro coincidental!

I’m ready to shake my husband out of bed and ask him exact dates. I have fingers crossed the timing works out. I have mentioned to other members seeing Lu in NO is on my bucket list. D*mn, I hope it works out!

    THE TOUR-
I do have at least a little solid info on the tour front. We will definitely be doing two dates in Toronto opening for Levon Helm at Massey Hall on March 4 & 5. We will also be doing a show in Austin during SXSW 3/18 or 19 I think that will be part of a special Lost Highway Records 10th Anniversary event. That should be quite a night as I know they are reaching out to a lot of special guests to be a part of that. It would be safe to assume that there will be dates that will take us from Toronto to Austin but at this point I don’t know what those will be. We have also discussed dates prior to Toronto but until the record release date gets set those will be tentative.

Oh. Mr Overby…what are the odds? I will be in New Orleans on a business trip (2011) with my husband, one he planned months ago after our Sugar Bowl trip (he/we loved the place so much he suggested it as a meeting spot for one of his quarterly meeting commitments). As it turns out, the trip is scheduled during the first part of Jazz Fest! I’m so excited, and the thought of Lu playing that festival while I was visiting has this girl all a twitter, even with enduring five freaking long weeks of constant pain. So, am I dreaming large here?

Today, my favorite music host played “Undamned,” (the record doesn’t release until next February), AND mentioned Lu had joined OTR at the Troubadour. 😛 The recorded version is hauntingly beautiful, just amazing.

Then, he spun “Long Way To The Top” mentioning it was a cut from the #1 record voted by fans in WNKU’s Top 89 albums of 2008.

This on top of hearing earlier in the morning, “Honeybee,” with the morning host mentioning The Heartless Bastards opened for Lu and she (the host) was going to be bold, go out on a limb and say she thought Lu was channeling Erika Wennerstrom in that number. I thought of you, Lefty.

I wonder if Lu realizes the magnitude of respect so many artists and peers seem to have for her?

At the end of his show this afternoon, my favorite WNKU host played “Essence.” It reminded me to shoot him an email about Lu’s appearance with OTR. I am going to listen tomorrow as time allows, with hopes I’ll hear a twofer of Lu & OTR with a mention of Lu’s appearance. 😀

lwj you’re one up on me on the WXPN webcast on Dec 3rd. Where did you find that?

Amos sold out show tonight in Germany, according to a recent FB post, has all proceeds going to help an organization involved with Haiti assistance.

No shows tentatively coming close to me, however, he’s making an LA stop in Jan *cough cough* If I were a jetsetter i would be flying to see this show with hopes Lu would make an appearance. 😀

Thank you for posting, Lefty! One of the better interviews I’ve read in regards to latest tour.

As a 30 year JM fan, and one that has discovered Americana music and independent music over the past five years, this show John has put together is just amazing. I was told after the first show, by his WEBMASTAS, after they sat in on dress rehearsal, they knew I would love, love, love it. They know me so well. 8)

A lot of thought was put into this tour, from John’s paintings displayed in the front lobby to the show format to the documentary film mentioned in the interview. Standout moments of the film were watching John and his wife being baptized in the church in Savannah, seeing him record inside Sun Studios and Room 414 at Gunter Hotel along with session player David Roe testifying, in a conversation he had with Johnny Cash, that Johnny considered JM one of the top 10 songwriters of his generation.

TNT, I hope Chez Tracey has a vacancy next year (hopefully) as its still being tossed around as target
date for opening of “Ghost Brothers.”

“Great songwriters don’t come around that often. Amos is an exceptional artist,
a true story teller, unique to his generation.”
    —Willie Nelson

“Amos Lee knows how to use his voice to tell a story with a hint of mystery.”
    —Lucinda Williams

For Amos Lee, the key to his fourth album, Mission Bell, was time—taking the time to reflect, to write, and to record songs that lived up to his own expectations.

“My last two records were a little rushed, because I was touring so much and running around a lot,” he says. “On this one, I took a year and a half and I just sat at home and wrote. I spent more time alone with these songs than I ever did in the past,” he continues, “which I think was really helpful. It was like going to a yard sale or a thrift store—you go through the first time and you might see something, but then you have to keep going back and forth because you always find something else there.”

The result is Lee’s richest and most fully formed album to date. Mission Bell, which was produced by Joey Burns of the acclaimed band Calexico, displays both range and cohesion, an array of emotions unified by Lee’s eclectic taste and distinctive vocals. With a remarkable set of guests—including Willie Nelson, Lucinda Williams, Sam Beam (Iron & Wine), James Gadson, Priscilla Ahn, and Pieta Brown—and the musical backing of Calexico, the album marks the arrival of Amos Lee as a mature artist who continues to explore his musical and thematic interests

I found some info on Lucinda’s appearance on Amos’s record.

    http://www.courierpostonline.com/article/20101105/LIFE01/11050308/The-infamous-Amos-Lee

The gamble worked and Lee is preparing to release “Mission Bell,” his fourth album, on Jan. 25, produced by members of the band Calexico and featuring guest artists, including Willie Nelson and Lucinda Williams. He said for “Mission Bell” he took time to reflect and really focus on the writing, compared to his first two albums, which were created during the rush of touring.

But it’s hard to hear the rush in Lee’s voice. It can bring back memories that encourage lingering — hazy evenings on the front porch with fireflies dancing across the lawn, or lazy Sunday mornings rolled up in a tangle of sheets.

Nelson calls Lee “an exceptional artist, a true storyteller, unique to his generation,” in publicity materials for the tour.

Lee and Nelson first met when the legendary country singer requested that Lee play his birthday party, Lee said.

From there, it seemed a natural fit to invite Nelson onto the album.Nelson is featured on a reprise of the opening number of “Mission Bell” titled “El Camino.” It is a song Lee describes as “the crux of my life.” It talks about how to balance experience, friendship and familiarity with ambition, growth and moving forward.

Lee delves into the mind of the children of celebrities for his song “Clear Blue Eyes,” which features Williams. On the song, he speculates about parents who decide their needs are greater than those of their offspring.
