after teh length and ground covered in this tour, i would venture a guess (no inside info or job) it’ll be a while before we see lucinda on stage.
well into 08. just pure speculation on my part

ij, what was the resolution for those of us that bought essence at irving plaza? (sorry, haven’t kept up on this topic) no hurry, it can wait until you get back from wherever your travels have you now.

pettibone’s as tasteful a player as you’ll find anywhere. as my favorite picker of all time said once, the important notes are not the ones you
play, it’s the ones you leave out.

    from Tim

    >I hope that I’m wrong, but I don’t think Doug Pettibone will be around much longer.

just to share, i msg’d tim after (i think) the saturday show that having no indication there was a new 2nd six string in the band, i looked at doug and thought *bill walsh*, then chet and thought *george seifert* (for those non-football fans, george seifert was the assistant s.f. 49’s coach groomed to be head coach bill walsh’s replacement while walsh was still head coach but knew he was leaving on his own terms.) i hope i’m wrong too, but in any given time slice of the world of lw, everything’s changed.

maybe i shouldn’t have logged on after having a few (more) beers after i got home last night. it wasn’t the umitigated disaster my initial post may have implied but i think consensus is, it was an off night. happens. after reading other’s recollections of the night i can point to exactly disappointed me SO much. no feeling, emotion, nothing, in lake charles. i hadn’t seen her do lc in a couple of years and was probably looking forward to that tune the most. then, for me anyway, she just raced through it. nothing. and to counter that, jackson to end was just beautiful. then the one that really had me scratching my head and mumbling jhc was words. i think that song is brilliant it was going just exactly perfect. or so i thought because lu decided it wasn’t just exactly perfect and killed it. i thought all the guests played really well but it definitely tends take away from any flow the show starts to develope. i guess the onus of my disappointment lies strictly with me. i was anticipating a big night. i learned from 20+ years of chasing some hippy band around, anticipate nothing, anything you get is bonus. lesson relearned. who’s ever going tonight, have fun, see you thurs.

sorry for not posting anything from irving plaza. i was kinda waiting for the setlist from sunday night as i didn’t keep one but i guess if paul from la. could get on plane, do his laundry, get married, have a couple of kids, and get a review up, i don’t have much excuse 8). stellar performances both nights. i preferred saturday’s 1st set to sunday’s but i like wwt more than essence but there was some eye opening things from sunday. steal your love and are you down were the highlights, the latter getting kinda spacey. lu did NOT convince me she was waiting in her car though. what i really liked about saturay night was forced tempo changes. instead of easing into the show she had to jump right into rightiously after the opener. and speaking of that song, there’s a new permanent six string. added some thump to a few songs but also took away from lucinda’s playing. i was a big fan of the sparse, uncluttered presentation, but, sh1t changes. chet and doug are both tasteful enough players that they don’t seem to step on each other a bit. sbd guy mark said she’s looking to get away from playing the guitar as much. one casualty of the 2 pickers is long for your kiss is no longer the gut wreching soul/blues number, it’s back to double time shuffle. oh, well. sh1t changes. if it was the same stuff every night, we could call lucinda the rolling stones and lose interest pretty fast. one other thing, willie nile’s real character, enjoyed his appearence alot. oh, and another thing, fionn regan looked like a real asshat with is petulant little protest saturday night. he was definitely in an impossible situation playing between sets saturday night but walking away from his mic and turning off his guitar was a joke. wrong move for a ny crowd. bob dylan, you’re not. i’m suprised people weren’t alot ruder, especially when he did it a second time. i was waiting for the sheep herders hook from saturday morning cartoons to physically yank him off. see y’all later on tonight.

hey inside job, was there a problem with *people talking* on the saturday night disk? i was pretty disappointed it wasn’t on there especially since i’m not a big fan of it on wwt but saturday night it was big fun.

i don’t know that you can undermine someone’s opinion, guy didn’t like it, how do you tell him he’s wrong for not liking what he heard? now, the motivation for coming to a site such as this and putting up such post is a whole ‘nother story. and the comment about her appearence, as stated
    earlier, is just silly.

perfect, thanks for the update tim. she melts me when she growls *the days go by* bridge when the song’s done in soul/blues mode. now, if the 2nd set at towne hall’s car wheels night could be half as good as the one at el rey, the ny attendees should be in for a great night.

holy shit, batman. that 2nd set with car wheels to open. look like a great night. 1 question, was long for your kiss done as a shuffle (album) or the slower paced soul/blues format?
